    Excellent! very doable.

    highest weight:: 220lbs
    current weight: 156lbs
    May 1goal weight: 146lbs
    ultimate goal weight: 136lbs

    You look great! I'm at where you were at the beginning. I have serious health issues relating to obesity, acid reflux, and arthritis. I was diagnosed this year with tracheal stenosis related to acid reflux. I have to lose weight before I can get the procedure to tighten the muscle that keeps acid from flowing back up into the esophagus. My gastrologist and the thoracic specialist want me to lose 25 lbs. before they consider surgery on my stomach and windpipe.

    So yeah, I'm in. I've started counting calories (again) and stop eating after supper, which I try to eat as early as possible (between 3 to 4 o'clock). I find if I go to bed on an empty stomach, I don't wake up congested and I can breathe better.

    You may also want to cut out dairy. Best wishes.

    @Btinghutch you're probably gaining muscle which weighs more than fat. Hang in there! You'll reach your goal.
    if you are in a deficit you arent gaining much muscle (maybe slight newbie gains,but its not going to make the scale stall). a lb of muscle weighs the same as a lb of fat, but the muscle takes up less space.@Btinghutch ,you are getting smaller because you are losing fat,the scale sometimes takes awhile to catch up. Im a size or two smaller than I was when I weighed 25lbs less years ago.

    I just read this from Women's Health. "...According to a Brazilian study, women who strength-trained 3 times a week gained 5 pounds of muscle and lost 16 pounds of fat!"

    I like this study and I can commit to strength-training 3x a week! They didn't say how long this took, but I think we could safely assume it could be accomplished before May 1 :)

    no,you have to be in a surplus to gain 5 lbs of muscle and being a woman you arent going to accomplish that in a little over a month,we dont have the testosterone to build it that fast.you cant gain that much muscle in a deficit either,as for fat loss,its hard to gain muscle and lose fat because when you gain muscle you are gaining fat as well. how much depends on your genetics and so on. the younger you are can help build a little more muscle but again it has to be under the right conditions and a deficit isnt it.strength training in a deficit will help you preserve any lean muscle you currently have, you can also get stronger as well.

    I'm in!! I want to lose 10 lb by april 22, so it'll be nice to have a group! :)

    Currently i'm vegan, and struggling with keeping my calories, carbs, and sugars low.. my goal this weekend is to find all the snacks which are low sugar and carb... I find eating three servings of fruits/day (1 c strawberries, 1 banana, and an apple) + vegan yogurt and soy in my coffee is putting me at my sugar limit! Somewhat discouraging, but will just incorporate more green snacking, I guess! Anyone else having trouble getting ALL their numbers to work well together?

    sugar wont make your weight stall unless it puts you into a surplus,or if you have a health issue. going over is fine as long as you are at your caloric allowance you should lose weight. the last10-15 are always the hardest and slowest,for a lot of people

    Yes, the nurse at Mass General recommended that as well.
