I have been doing the Candida diet for over 2 years! Off and on. Whenever I eat anything mildly sweet, like carrots or sweet potatoes, my symptoms flare. It is very challenging, but I feel such better when I eat what my body likes. Friend request me, if you want. I will check my food diary and see if it is private. I think I can undo that. Not sure, not real great with technology!0

I have many chronic health problems. Everything from arthritis to fibromyalgia, my dr thinks. I have tried many diets to help feel better. Started with paleo, tried gaps, now candida which is pretty much a ketogenic diet. I follow several people on you tube, Healthy pursuit is a good one. She isn't really candida but keto. But she knows a lot about foods and health and how they are connected0

It helps me to listen or read about others and how they stick with this. I am also in the fitness industry and have studied a little about nutrition on own. I am suprised at the number of people who do not connect how they feed themselves with their health problems. If you put kool-aid in your car, how do you think it would run? But yet we dump tons of sugar in our bodies and expect them to be fine.0

Have you researched AIP? autoimmune protocol? It has been transforming for me. It's Paleo based but more restrictive for a short time.
Dr Sarah Ballentyne wrote the textbook on this.
Her website is PaleoMom.
Also, have you been tested for SIBO0 -
Please join AIP support on FB.

I think you should find out if you have candida first. There is a lot of fear mongering surrounding candida. Does everyone in the western world have it? Are they talking about candida in Japan? It's a bit overblown IMO. I think if it's something you have, you would know it. But if you're gonna symptom check on Google, then of course you're gonna feel like you have it. Consult a doctor for testing.

I haven't heard of that or been tested but will look into it. Thank you for the info and advice!

I'm not any more but I was on one, largely eating mostly meat and green vegs , rarely giving in and having one good carb.
I had coconut oil supplements daily and cooked everything in coconut oil and it actually seemed to have solved the problem, it helped after month or so and really kicked in after about 6 months, and now over a year and half later I don't get at all , even though I rarely take the supplements at all now.
Have you tried coconut oil?

How did you get tested for candida? I get these super itchy red bumps on my feet whenever I eat too much sugar, or if I have things like baked goods.0

If you have candida overgrowth, see a doctor, take the antifungal, and stop reading nonsense on the internet. Untreated fungal infections can be bad news.0

I think you may need to do some research.

@abbey14 I was trying 5 tablespoons of coconut oil for joint and muscle pain and I think may have helped but a few weeks later I went off sugars and all forms of grains cold turkey when I could not taper off. Because of all the coconut oil and cutting carbs to <50 grams daily I think I may have a 'die off' at first but that passed and my health is better than I can remember. The pain is managed , 40 years of IBS resolved and other health improvements.
Two weeks in to eating <50 grams of carbs daily the cravings faded and has not returned in the past 18 months.
This is just one place below with some info that could be a good place to start researching Candida how we all have it but it is the 'overgrowth' that can crash our health for those interested in the subject.

Uh-huh. Again, fungal infections are serious and you need an anti-fungal, not ridiculous blathering a from the Internet. Stop self-diagnosing using BS sites like Gale posted up there. Speak to your doctor if you think you have a problem."0 -

I've been hearing about intestinal fungal infections lately, so I googled. I think this site does a great job of explaining.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3163673/
Here is the summary:
Candida organisms commonly colonize the human gastrointestinal tract as a component of the resident microbiota. Their presence is generally benign. Recent studies, however, show that high level Candida colonization is associated with several diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Further, results from animal models argue that Candida colonization delays healing of inflammatory lesions and that inflammation promotes colonization. These effects may create a vicious cycle in which low-level inflammation promotes fungal colonization and fungal colonization promotes further inflammation. Both inflammatory bowel disease and gastrointestinal Candida colonization are associated with elevated levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-17. Therefore, effects on IL-17 levels may underlie the ability of Candida colonization to enhance inflammation. Because Candida is a frequent colonizer, these effects have the potential to impact many people.

Please. Did you even read what I just wrote? I said Candida thrives on sugar. Are you really trying to dispute that?

I think you may need to do some research but please at least read my post so you do not mislead others as to what I said in black and white. @tincanonastring read up on Candida like you, I and the rest have. It is its 'overgrowth' that becomes health concerns. @RunRutheeRun hit on an overgrowth condition name.0 -

I'm not saying that candida overgrowth doesn't occur. Quote the opposite. I know it happens and, when it does, most commonly presents orally or as a vaginal yeast infection. I know it can also result more rarely in the penis and, even rarer still, systemically. The BS part comes in thinking you can treat it with diet. You need anti-fungal medication.
Googling "do I have candida" and clicking nonsense sites like the one you posted, Gale, is how people get sucked into confirmation bias.
OP, I'm not a doctor, which makes me just as qualified to diagnose your candida overgrowth as you are. If you believe that you have a fungal infection, please seek proper medical treatment.0 -

An important part of research is vetting sources. Methinks you need to work on that part.0 -
I did it for about 9 months, all the stages. It was hard but so worth it! Add me if you want support or tips.0

Doctors are not the solution to everything. I'm hesitant to see a doctor because in the past everything they have given me has not worked. And no, they were not naturopaths.
There is a big difference between Candida yeast and Candida fungus. They are related, but the yeast is what I know has taken over my body. Yeast thrives on sugar. Hence by eliminating sugar, it gives the Candida nothing to feed on. If you don't believe that, that's fine and if you think I'm crazy, that's fine too. That will not stop me from following this diet, as I have heard from more than enough people how much the Candida diet has helped them.
I posted this in search of other people on the diet, not medical advice. Not sure why you're so adamant about me seeing a doctor.0 -

I can't agree more!
Doctors are usually missing things with me. You keep doing it because the Candida diet is important to keeping your body free of harmful organisms, not just the candida albicans.
I had it but when I used metagenics brand parex plus and bactrex for a 16 day cleanse it got rid of it plus everything else (sorry if tmi )
If you do the diet that is great but if you do try doing a cleanse make sure to take a good probiotic afterwards to restore gut and help it heal.
I havent craved sugar since killing them all. Nit sure if it was the candida but it certainly felt like it was causing major sugar craving. Easter has passed now and I only ate 2 small eggs maybe 40g max..now that has never been possible!
Good luck hun! Don't worry about the people on here who may think your crazy or tell you to see a doctor as they are always doing that.
Thanks for the advice! Would you mind if I added you? I would love to ask you a few questions about your experience on the diet since I am just starting out!

Great link! Thanks for posting this. Here is an excerpt:
"One popular fake illness is chronic candidiasis. Candida albicans is a fungus that colonizes about 90% of the population (meaning it is present in the body but not causing an infection or any problems). It can, however, become an infection, usually at times of stress or immunocompromise. The most common manifestations are thrush (a superficial Candida infection in the mouth) and vaginitis, also commonly referred to as a yeast infection.
Candida can also rarely cause serious systemic infection, but this is mostly restricted to those with compromised immune systems, such as patients undergoing chemotherapy or with advanced AIDS.
Candida became the focus of a fake illness beginning in 1986 with the publication of The Yeast Connection by Dr. William Crook. In this book Crook proposed the idea that systemic candidiasis, or Candida hypersensitivity, was responsible for a host of common conditions and non-specific symptoms, such as fatigue, sexual dysfunction, asthma, and psoriasis."
The science based link I posted above broadens the spectrum of people for whom yeast can become a problem, to people with IBS/IBD and ulcers. As someone who has suffered from both, I wouldn't be surprised if yeast overgrowth delayed healing at times. Or just bad bacteria. One of the treatments for yeast overgrowth suggested in my earlier link was a probiotic. This is my go to now when my IBS flares up.
I have a friend whose nutritionist put her on a candida diet. She had been trying on her own to lose weight for quite some time without success. She bought in fully to "yeast overgrowth" and "leaky gut" and has adhered rigorously to the low carb diet she was "prescribed". She's lost a lot of weight now and feels great. IMO, the voice of authority and her belief in the importance of this diet as her "one true way" were important for her success. I think she lost weight because she reduced calorie intake while adopting this low carb diet. She just needed a little "woo" to improve adherence.
