Looks like I have a 46.4 miler tomorrow! JK. Not quite up to that level. YET. Training got derailed due to a Mexican cruise. So worth it! Next month(s) will be on point though. Dozen races coming up. Time to grind.
    March total: 103.6/150mi
Longest run of the month: 20.0mi

Even with your cruise, you whooped my mileage, Great job!

I did it! My goal was 35 miles for March and tonight I hit 36.9! I sent my husband and son to soccer practice in the truck and I ran through my neighborhood there and then ran a few laps around the whole soccer complex. It’s just down the street from our neighborhood so it works out well. I think I’ll set my April goal for 40 miles. Feels good to hit my goal!

    3/1: 3.25 miles (beautiful day!)
    3/2: 2 miles (indoor track)
    3/5: 3.5 miles (treadmill)
3/7: 3.25 miles (another nice day)
    3/9: 2.75 (outside)
    3/13: 2.42 (indoor track)
    3/17: 3.19 (Outside. Hello, allergies!)
    3/20: 3.08 (treadmill)
    3/22: 2.88 (indoor track)
    3/26: 4.02 (treadmill)
    3/28: 3.25 (outside)
    3/30:3.27 (around the soccer complex)

Today's notes – Great weather, in the low 60s with clear skies and the temperature falling just a bit as I ran, negligible wind. But I was a little short on sleep last night, and my legs felt heavy. I was surprised when I looked at the stats afterward that my pace averaged 7:57, right around where easy averages when I'm feeling great; and I kept my heart rate in Zone 2 92% of the time. Normally on an easy run it stays in Zone 2 60% to 80% of the time. Okay, so maybe I avoided some hills; but I didn't avoid them all.

Speed work tomorrow to end the month, then a rest day on Friday. Taper starts in earnest next week, and today I'm feeling like it's about time for taper.

    2016 races:
January 1, 2016 Resolution Run 7.5 mile (Mendon, NY) finished in 53:58
January 9, 2016 Winter Warrior Half Marathon (Gates, NY) finished in 1:30:59

I surpassed my March goal! Tomorrow is a rest day, so I plan to end the month with 59.5 miles (my goal was 55). I also PR-ed my 5K time today with my 33:08 finish (no, it wasn't a race, but my last race finish was 38:56, so I'm totally counting this in my mental book of "GO ME!") f1ysqbvzapyt.png

I think maybe I probably shouldn't have decreased my goal so much - I mean, surgery and recovery, but addict, amiright?

Yes - I have signed up for the 10.5K at 8:30 AM and the 5K at 12:30. SWMBO just grumbles and shakes her head. She realizes that logic and talk don't mean a whole lot at this point.

    Upcoming Races:
02-Apr: Run 2 End Alzheimer's 10.5K, Bonaire, GA PLUS Miles for Miracles 5K, Macon, Georgia
^^ Yes, I'm running both in the same day. </crazy>
16-Apr: Running for Ronald 10K or 15K, Macon, GA
04-Jul: Peachtree Road Race 10K, Atlanta, GA

3/1.....3.0 @ 10:40 on the TM, plus strength training
    3/3....3.5 @ 11:25 on the TM
3/5....4.5 @ 10:33 on the TM ( .5 walking and 4 @ 10:00, which I think is my farthest distance at that speed)
    3/8....4.5 @ 11:53 on the park trail
    3/9...2.5 @ 15:00ish walking the world's fattest, most slothful dog :)
3/10...4.25 @ 11:37 on the rail trail near my house. It was so nice to be outside--and warm!--at 6 am!
    3/11...3.00 @ 10:39 on the rail trail
3/14...3.0 @ 10:56 on the rail trail--it was a little wet and slippery; I almost landed on my rear in the creek at the water crossing!
3/15...3.0 @ 10:24 on the treadmill and strength training
3/17...2.25 @ 11:06 on the treadmill and strength training
    3/21...5.0 @ 12:00 on the treadmill
3/23...3.25 @ 10:39 on the treadmill and strength training
3/25...3.0 @ 10:57 on the treadmill and strength training. So very, very sore!
3/28...5.0 @ 12:00 on neighborhood streets on a beautiful day!
3/29...2.0 @ 12:00 on the treadmill and strength training
3/30...4.5 @ 12:00 on the park trails; quite a bit of pain on top of my foot/front of my ankle. Took it nice and slow.

Finally! Caught up...and this is the last, beautiful post!

I am a large mammal. Even now, 100 lbs or so down, I'm still large for a runner. When I see folks like me--and bigger than me--running, I want to hug them. To tell them how awesome they are. To high-five them waaaaay up in the air. Running is hard! It's even harder when you're lugging around an actual spare tire or two. But it will get you where you need to be, in more ways than one! :)

Oh! And guess who signed up for another Disney half? I'm doing the Wine and Dine in November!

Now, need to get that surgery scheduled and out of the way so I can get down to some good training. One thing about training for the half in February was that I did way too much of it on the treadmill, I think. With this one in November, I'm hoping to do the majority of my runs, and especially my long runs, outside.

Disney runs are awesome, great entertainment on course- but SO many people. I didn't sign up this year, because it is a day time race instead of night. Hoping they bring back tower of terror or add in some race at night. Living only 45 min from Disney has its perks.

Ended up doing a double today (with 5 easy miles tonight) to make tomorrow's remaining mileage a bit easier to bite off. I'll plan it as a 10 miler early in the day, then just run to/from my open water swim practice to get in my last 2.5. Just glad I hit my biking goal early enough in the month that I can just swap biking time for running to reach my target.

    3/1 - 3.5 miles
    3/2 - 10 miles
    3/3 - 5 miles
    3/4 - 3 miles
    3/6 - 11 miles
    3/7 - 18 miles
    3/8 - 7.5 miles
    3/10 - 13 miles
    3/12 - 5 miles
    3/15 - 6 miles
    3/17 - 5 miles
    3/18 - 1 mile
    3/19 - 10 miles
    3/21 - 20 miles
    3/23 - 11 miles
    3/25 - 5.5 miles
    3/27 - 9 miles
    3/28 - 20 miles
    3/29 - 9 miles
    3/30 - 15 miles

    Total: 187.5 miles
    Goal: 200 miles
    Remaining: 12.5 miles

Exactly! My favorite example of this is seeing a couple of very overweight women climbing a sandhill at the beach. My husband and I challenged ourselves to it, it was not easy at all, very steep and very high. Half of that climb one of the women did it on her hands and knees! I was so inspired by her! The other woman cheering her on the whole way. ... once at the top it was like heaven. A cliff looking over the rocky shore of the oregon coast. It was amazing, we had no idea. I thought it was just more sand on the other side. Anyhow it's so important for people to be out there no matter size or shape! There just might be someone encouraged by it.

I'm loving the discussion with @MNLittleFinn and learning something. Thanks to both of you!

    Ditto!

I'm pretty much at the same point and times as MNLittleFinn.

The calculator says I should run my long runs at 7 min 30 to 8 min 30 per km.

But I can't help doing them at 6 min 30 to 7 min per km.

    My 5K PB is 30:10.

I don't know what my goals are either, besides "more running please".

I was able to do my first 30 min non stop run this morning. I am slow but that's ok with me. I started running on my 62nd birthday month in January having been overweight and out of shape almost my whole adult life...proving you are never to old to try! Now I am at my goal weight with 71 lbs gone. This is so I can run/walk the 5k in the Ottawa Race weekend at the end of May. I need 2 days between runs but I swim and walk and do Tai Chi and Aqua strength training in between. I have to keep active to help maintain good blood sugar control with my Type 2 diabetes and I think I am doing it. I challenge myself to run and I don't mind that I run at 4.9 or 5.0 lol. To me it's a miracle I can even run!!

@JaneKnoll1 Wow, that's brilliant! Yay you!

Oops, nearly forgot my final tally.

    1 Mar – 3 km
    2 Mar – 4 km
    5 Mar – 5 km
    6 Mar – 10 km – first time ever!
    8 Mar – 7.5 km
    10 Mar – 5.1 km
    12 Mar – 5 km – parkrun PB!
    13 Mar – 10 km
    15 Mar – 7.5 km
    17 Mar – 5.4 km
    19 Mar – 5 km
    20 Mar – 13 km - furthest distance yet!
    22 Mar – 7.2 km
    24 Mar – 7.1 km
    26 Mar – 5 km – parkrun PB!
    27 Mar – 15 km – new distance PB!
    29 Mar – 7 km
    31 Mar – 6 km

    Total: 127.8 km
    Goal: 60 km

Totally rocked my goal this month!

It might look like I pushed myself too hard, but my goal was very conservative and allowed for plenty of injury down-time that I didn't end up needing, due to a month free of injuries. Yay!

3 miles today, really cold but really sunny, it was beautiful. 15 miles off my March goal but I had a week off sick and then the week after that I really struggled. Overall I'm really pleased with my month, my highest miles yet :)

Congratulations to everyone who made their goals this month and to everyone who achieved a PB!!!
I ended up taking most of the month off to try to let my hip heal so no where near my goal but that is fine if I can stay healthy. I getting back into it with couch to 10k and am starting with week 3. 90 second and 3 minute intervals feel easy but I am trying not to push it. After first run yesterday, so far so good. No pain or soreness. Here is hoping for a better April.

For those of you who hate to run in the morning, here's another good reason not to.

Hello, all. I have some questions for you about shoes, well, a specific type of shoe, really.

I was able to stop into Philadelphia Runner on my way to dinner last night, and I picked up a new pair of Mizunos. I've actually never run in Mizunos before. Saucony and Brooks have been my running shoes of choice as of late, but with my terrible, awful experience with the Brooks Ravenna 6, I decided I needed to change things up a bit. I tried on a few different pairs of shoes, and I had my options narrowed down to two shoes, ultimately deciding on the Mizunos because they felt like what I am used to, and since I don't have a decent pair of shoes to rotate into these with, I figured it was best to play it safe this time around. I over pronate, as told by a podiatrist after I injured my foot several years ago due to my over pronation, and I have found I am most comfortable in a stability shoe.

So far so good with the Mizunos. I walked around in them a bit, and I will be doing a few miles in them this evening to really give them a try; however, I am still intrigued by the other shoes I was considering - the On Cloudflyer. The shoes felt great. They were much lighter than any stability shoe I've tried in the past, and the little bubble/pod things on the soles definitely made them feel different from anything I've tried before, but they were different in a good way. I was seriously considering them, and I was quite torn on which pair to purchase, but the Ons are so very different from what I'm used to, and since I pretty much have to jump right into a new shoe, I didn't want to be too adventurous with my purchase. So, I decided on Mizuno. I still want to give the Ons a try, however, spending $280 on shoes in one clip is a little (a lot) out of my current budget.

Here are my questions: Has anyone had any experience with On running shoes? If so, do you like them? Why or why not?

    3/29- 4.0
    3/31- 4.08

    Monthly total: 76.67/56

Good run this morning in the chilly 28 degree weather. UA turtleneck and Brooks jacket on top and Nike pants on bottom made for a pleasant run. Topped off the clothes with a light knit hat and my gloves. Plenty warm. Managed to push it a little, for the last run of the month. Averaged 10:45 miles, first mile was slowest at 10:55, but it always is, as I'm warming up. Miles 2 and 3 were 10:31 and mile 4 was 10:27. Felt pretty good about the consistency of my pace. Average HR was 150 with a max of 162. 75% of the time in HR Zone 4 and the other 25% in Zone 3, felt really good the whole time, and there was time, so I was tempted to go another mile, but was good and stuck with my plan.

@skippygirlsmom - LOL about running early! I ran at oh-dark-negative-30 this morning. After not taking a flashlight yesterday and finding the run surprisingly enjoyable I did the same today along the streamway park trails. There is just enough ambient light from the surrounding civilization to see just fine. Things look so different though, and it is so quiet and peaceful. It's like running in a dream or something. I think I like this as much as running during snowfall. Plus, it might be dark enough that I pass right by the body without noticing.

I hear ya on running in the dark. I have streetlights most places, but it's still pretty darn dark. I love it. It's going to be hard in summer when the sun is up earlier, I'll have to get used to running in the light again.
