March 2016 Running Challenge

I used to be an early-morning runner, but since I'm signed up for the Peachtree Road Race (10K) this summer (04-July on the streets of Hot-lanta!), I've decided to keep a fair percentage of my running in the mid-day so I can go ahead and acclimatize myself to the heat gradually. Plus, it makes SWMBO a little happier that I'm not out in the dark. With the stupid drivers.0

What have I done to my foot!??
Yesterday while I was running I started feeling a pain across the top of my foot, behind my big toe. The pain moved up into the front of my ankle while I was running. I was halfway around the lake so I just kept going, I just took it slow. I didn't have any real problems with it the rest of the day--maybe a little twingy, but not a big deal. Well this morning, I went to put on my running shoes and I can't even walk without pain while I'm wearing them! I tried loosening the laces, stretching my ankle, ice...no help. I'm going to take a couple of ibuprofen and rest today, but I'd sure like to know what I've done. I'm guessing tendinitis? I'm so sad!

-
@5BeautifulDays That sounds like tendinitis to me! If the pain is radiating from the toe upward, try taping your big toe to the next 1-2 toes over to keep it from irritating the tendon in the short term. Hope it feels better quickly!0
-
It helps me break that stereotype of what runners look like. It helps me see the runner in me.
I think too often about what I must look like to the folks in the neighborhood who see me out pounding the miles, but then I think about how proud I am of the "large mammal" folks I sometimes see out walking or whatever, and think, "Maybe I can provoke some positive feelings in some folks seeing me."
Or something.
Yes! Me, too! Unless I have surgery, I'm always gonna have a gut. Loose skin ain't attractive and a washboard isn't in my future, but if I can lose ~100 lbs from my highest ever weight after being overweight from age 5 to almost 40, maybe I can inspire someone to be healthier, too!0 -

Hey everyone - I don't really remember what I posted as my goal earlier this month and was somewhat bad about posting updates as I am a little overwhelmed by the activity here but with that said I am " friends " with most of you so I am going to TRY to do a better job and get more involved here. I have been " lurking " here for a couple months and am amazed at the knowledge that is here and that is one of the main reasons I want to get involved, you guys/gals have a lot to offer and even while " lurking " I have learned a ton...
Now back to my mileage... I don't remember what I posted I was shooting for but looking back at my personal log I managed to get in 151 miles before last Fridays run which has put me firmly in the spectators seat for the last week.0 -
@skippygirlsmom - Boys have cooties...ha! Also, as long as the body isn't mine, I'll keep running in the morning.
@Stoshew71 - I am totally gonna be like Jack was to Focker when my daughter is older! Go Dad!0 -
@brhollifield I've learned a ton because of this group. As of last Friday, you were double my total for the whole month. Great job!0
-
-
@skippygirlsmom - lol on running in the morning! So true, you always hear about a runner finding a body. But it's so dark, I wouldn't see it!
@WhatMeRunning - wow 157! Awesome!
@shanaber - I LOVE that picture of you and Hobbes. This morning I passed a lady who was on her bike with 2 Vizslas! They were beautiful! She slowed down as we approached each other the adorable dogs were all friendly with me. I talked to her a few minutes. I don't know how in the world she doesn't fall with two dogs pulling her like that. They were so sweet.
Ran in my new Nike shoes today. Was thinking I was going to go 8-10 but I had some soreness (not quite pain) in one ankle so I cut it shorter. I normally don't run so many days in a row so my body not used to it. But, I am LOVING my little spring break at my mom's and being able to run every morning in daylight! And what's even better I slept 9.5 hours last night! Not sure on the shoes yet -- have to run a few more times in them.

Ya know there's also a Strava group that's not as overwhelming. Least I don't think it is. But then you'd miss the vampires, retail therapy, cooties, vVO2, running economy, gait analysis, tempo runs, and lactate threshold (-still thinks that's a breast feeding term).0 -

Well first , for some reason my " quote " button isn't working...
Second - Yes I know there is a Strava group and I am a member of it but you are correct, there isn't nearly as much information being passed around over there... I enjoy hiding in the shadows here and reading ( and learning ) but I really need to come out and play with you guys / gals a little more.0 -
I couldn't find April's challenge, is it already posted and I just couldn't see it? Looking forward to April after a somewhat-failed running-month! it's alright, I was really busy traveling heavily, next month is promising.

3/4 4.26
3/6 6.59
3/7 strength training
3/8 5.16 miles
3/9 3.58

.
3.26 3.7 — first run after a two-week long inactive work travel let’s ease back to it!

Congrats to all who met and/or exceeded their goals, to those of you like me that didn't but got out there and did your thing a big pat on the back to you too.
@ddmom0811 I thought the same thing about a dead body, especially without my glasses I'd run right by
@9voice9 Skip and I did a 10K and 5K back to back the big thing is to stretch and stay warm inbetween, they did the 5K first I wish they did it the other way around
@5beautifuldays oh no on the foot, I agree with @kristinegift hope it feels better soon
@shanaber nice purple cast, hey Hobbs!!!
@orphia no worries on the husband issue ha ha
@instantmartian I never heard of the "On" brand so I went out to take a looksy. Seems most of the reviews are from people who walk alot and not so many runners. They also say that things get stuck in the soles easily because of the cushion. Interesting concept in the soles and how they are made.0 -

5BeautifulDays wrote: »Oh! And guess who signed up for another Disney half? I'm doing the Wine and Dine in November!
Now, need to get that surgery scheduled and out of the way so I can get down to some good training. One thing about training for the half in February was that I did way too much of it on the treadmill, I think. With this one in November, I'm hoping to do the majority of my runs, and especially my long runs, outside.
So awesome! I heard it's in the morning this year, and I was actually talking to a girl at the running store yesterday and she told me that was a deal breaker for her because the party is on Sunday night? I really don't know anything about Wine and Dine, but I'm sure it'll be a blast! Good luck, and have fun!!0 -

It is an intersting concept. I did some research on them last night when I got home (at 11pm) after having a pretty extensive discussion with the girl at the running store about them. I am so on the fence. They were super comfortable and super light, and walking/jogging/bouncing up and down in them felt different than anything else I've ever put on my feet. A large part of me wanted to just jump in and give them a try. The other part of me wanted to not spend $160 on giving something a try. I am one of those people who research the crap out of things before I buy anything other than the basics. My boyfriend actually JUST got the men's version of my Mizunos (I had no idea that was the shoe he brought home on Monday). He did some research on the men's shoe and he loves Mizuno (his last few pair were them, I believe), so Mizuno seemed to be a much safer bet in my book, which is why I purchased those. I haven't been able to find much useful runner reviews on the On shoes, at least not enough to satisfy my obsessive research needs, so I figured I'd check to see if someone here may have some experience with them, though I know they aren't very well known or easy to find.0 -

At least I hope so.
Although even if it doesn't show up until tomorrow that would be OK and people could start posting their miles right away.
Oh, and since I have a scheduled rest day tomorrow...I personally wouldn't be bothered if it didn't show up until Saturday, but I imagine everyone else would be losing their freaking minds!0 -

Tomorrow is rest day for me too. Starting my April mileage with a long run on Sat.0 -

Sorry, I had a busy morning. I am about to create the April thread now and will post it shortly in here. Congratulations guys, we made it through March. Great job everyone.0

Can I brag a little that (at least on Thursday afternoon, based on weekly mileage) I'm beating BOTH @WhatMeRunning and @kristinegift on GC. That's my esteem boost for the week!0
