Goal – 56, 62, or 68 miles per week, per training plan
Expected March total - ~282 miles

Today's notes – Ran the customary 2 mile warmup before speed work. Today's assignment was 3 miles easy, 20 minutes at T pace, 2 miles easy. Talked to Coach about feeling beat up and ready for taper. He advised me to substitute 3 x 5 minutes at T with 2 minutes recovery for the 20 minutes. So I did that, and 3 x 5 minutes turned out to be about all I could handle today. Got back to base at 1.5 miles on an uphill and was feeling pretty done, so I skipped the last half mile of easy. That leaves me 13.61 miles short of the weekly target, with a 13 mile easy run planned for Saturday. Just run it a little long, and I'll come in on the week's target.

Next week the taper starts in earnest.

    Final March Report and Run.
I am back from the Ham String Injury. Did 15 km in 91 minutes tonight - average pace 6:04/km.
Half on paved Riverbank Trails and Half in the Bush on narrow winding wilderness trails that had snow and Ice cover on all the North and East Facing Slopes. It was an Early Season Exploratory Run in an area that I have never been in. In one place that faces South West there was a huge Block of Ice coming out of the side of a slope on the hill - Possibly a free flowing Spring/Artesian Well that could be a source of beautiful pure mid run water or a horrible obstacle. Still need at least 2 weeks of good weather for the trails to dry out before they will be truly run-able. I am a little bit short of Goal but quite happy considering my little ham string injury and 8 days lost to my swimming club.

    03/01 – 0.0 Km – 0.0 - 140 km
    03/02- 10.0 Km – 10.0 - 130 km

I'll have to catch up on everyones posts tomorrow - I have a date with a hot bath and a glass of chilled white wine not, but I first want to write about my first virtual race. It was absolutely awesome!
It was the Zombies Run spring race, so it came with a special dedicated "story mission" in the ZR app (=voice clips telling you a story in which you are one of the main characters, that advances with the distance you run). And a lot more than that, actually - there were two training missions before leading up to the main story, and emails with extra content, like introducing the other "team members" you run with in the story, a phone number you could actually call in real life, and of course a race packet. The bling was better than any I've gotten in a real race yet!
    jx2p4hh858mq.jpg

A tech shirt (with a zipper pocket that fits my apartment key), a badge/button, a certificate where you can enter your time, and the medal, but all done in the theme of the mission - there was a card with an "eyes only briefing", and even the plastic wrapper the shirt was in had a biohazard logo and the text "special threat response uniform" on it :-D

It did feel a little weird to clip on the race bib and head out for a race competely on my own. Since I didn't want to ruin the atmosphere by running somewhere with cars, live people and the like, I ran out towards some dark fields before starting the race mission. I might have been able to run a faster time on a flat course, or somewhere where my flashlight was not the only light source around, but it was definetely more fun this way. And I ended up with a 5k PR anyway! 28:35min, with is 31 seconds faster than my previous PR of 29:04 min in my last 5k race last July.

@_nikkiwolf_ That. Is. Totally. Freaking. Awesome.

    Awesome bling.

    Mega-awesome PB!

03/02 4.5 miles Legs took a while to warm up seriously thought of turning back home at mile 1 but persevered with it and turned into a really good run.
03/04 4.6 miles Kept it comfortable rather than the build up that was suggested legs wanted a slight break
03/06 8.7 miles Bit hillier than I normally do so was rather happy to find that I could run up the hill on the route.
    03/08 4.5 miles
03/13 11 miles Longest run so far!
03/17 4.5 miles Rather comfortable run to set me up before my first race on Sunday, probably my last run until then as I don't want to exacerbate the blister on the arch of my foot.
03/20 6.3 miles First ever race.
    03/23 4.6 miles
03/27 6.6 miles Lovely run down by the canal where my parents are moving to slightly faster than planned but felt good for it.
03/29 5 miles Went off way too fast and really suffered towards the end because of it but I was determined to the the mileage in to reach my monthly total with a run in hand first time since I've joined this group in December!
03/31 3 miles Lovely weather nice easy run out to finish a good month.

Looks like Aprils going to be a busy month with the amount of races on everyone's calender.

Well, I finished my March out with an "easy" 5K to test out the new shoes. So far so good! No hot spots, no blisters, and no additional toenails looking like they're going to fall off. Win, win, and win! My only complaint at this point is that my feet felt unusually warm running. My "easy" 5K turned out to being a bit of a faster pace than I had intended. I noticed this around mile 2, so I just went with it. I have reason to believe my shoes, and my mental state they created, may have contributed to at least part of what I will refer to as Miserable March. Running was starting to feel like a chore, and I believe my mileage and lack of days prove this. It's amazing what a good pair of shoes can do for one's attitude!

I will be starting April off with a 15K on Saturday.

    03/01 3.47 mi
    03/03 3.25 mi
    03/07 2.71 mi
    03/09 4.00 mi
    03/13 4.00 mi
    03/17 5.41 mi
    03/21 4.73 mi
    03/28 4.63 mi
    03/31 3.10 mi
    TOTAL 35.30 mi

    2016 Races:
02/21 – Disney Princess Half Marathon – 2:38:29 (included 16 stops to either take photos of something or have my photo taken with something)
    04/02 – Philadelphia Hot Chocolate 15K
    04/09 – Yuengling Light Lager Jogger 5K
    04/16 – River Horse 6K
05/01 – Blue Cross Broad Street Run (10 miles)
    08/06 – Foreman Foundation Chocolate Tour 10K
09/18 – Rock 'n' Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon

@shanaber thanks for asking, she is still throwing up (day 5). Took her to the doctor yesterday and he said she's not pregnant (she said OMG I don't have sex LOL) looks like a stomach virus. He said her anti nauseous meds, they don't seem to be helping much. She has so much running this weekend, meet tomorrow, 5K on Sunday, meets on Monday and Tuesday. She's chugging pedi lite. What's weird is she throws up and then comes down the hall singing, no fever, no feeling bad except right before she gets sick. It seems to be after she eats and first thing in the morning.

@moyer566 no no pain at all. He did test for a UTI and that was negative, that is what prompted the pregnancy joke was doing the urine test. He concurred with me that she has boy cooties from hugging her "boyfriend". She said if I had sex being pregnant wouldn't be a problem, I'd be dead my mom would kill me :-)

@skippygirlsmom - Glad Skip isn't pregnant  Ha!! Love her reactions! My first thought was a appendicitis but with no pain I think that is ruled out. Hope she feels well enough to run this weekend!!

@shanaber they did all the stomach pushing etc too, plus no fever. She wanted to go to school today so off she went with peppermints and a toothbrush in case she got sick. I said I know you want to go to see Jon, she just giggled and said yep. She's got an A in math, her worst subject right now and doesn't want to miss too much. She'll miss Monday and Tuesday because of the meets so she's really trying to stay on top of it. I said you might get sick after you run, she said no problem I'll look to see where the garbage cans are by the finish line.

@skippygirlsmom - she is too cute and such a great kid! At my daughter's school if they weren't in school on Friday for whatever reason they couldn't participate in any school activities until they were back in class for a full day - so nothing over the weekend or Monday unless you went on Friday.

@shanaber it's the same here, you need to be in class. Earlier in the year I was going to pull her out to work at special olympics but she had a meet that afternoon. The XC teacher was willing to let it go since it was SO, but I didn't want to get her in trouble so I sent Skip to school.

the barfy part after eating made me think more stomach/intestinal issues. (is she pooping? sometimes that can be it) i got barfy at the beginning of my ulcers.

i got out of a ticket that way, because i didn't want my mom to kill me when i got home.

oh and ginger can help with the barf. ginger ale, gum, hard candies, tea, beer

Nice Running @kristinegift Do I see a HM and a 6k on your list before the Marathon? You are rocking it!

@MNLittleFinn Yep! HM this weekend (been my goal race for a while so I'm not freaking about the marathon the whole training cycle), and the 6k is just for fun ;)It's at a brewery and we get growlers for having 10 people on a team, so that alone seemed worth the fee. I won't be racing, just having a good time!

I think I am totally jealous now.

    me too

Well, after my experience last month, all I can say ask is did they do a blood glucose check? And I would be testing her at home an hour after meals, too--her exercise might mask the very high sugars that would cause DKA.

I really hope she's feeling better soon.
