One more easy paced 5 miler today ahead of my rest day tomorrow and my next half on Saturday (#2 of 4 consecutive weekends). I actually have a down week scheduled next week with half #3 next weekend. That was interesting to plan but I think I figured it out.
I'm a bit torn about the "like" and "awesome" buttons after using them the last couple days. I love that I can acknowledge, praise or otherwise give feedback without adding yet another post to a busy thread. But at the same time it is very impersonal because it does not give that person any clue if anyone gave them a "like" or "awesome" without scrolling back, and even then there is no way to see who hit the buttons. So I almost feel like this option of not replying to people with some simple kudos is almost taking away from part of the positive spirit this thread offers people. Then again, it's still new, so I'm going to keep "liking" and "awesoming" for now.

I tried spinning for the first time, yesterday. Let's just say it kicked my (now quite sore) butt. I did a quick mile on the treadmill directly after hoping it would shake out my jello legs. I think it helped, but I still don't expect to be able to walk well come this evening. I plan on doing a few miles this evening.

Ran .20 intervals to 7.5 (for 4.5 miles) on the TM - felt good that I did it, because the half mile warm up was brutal. Feeling a twinge here and there which I'm working out, but didn't do extra distance for fear of injury as I increase my miles.
I chose .20 which is psychologically much more manageable on the TM than .25. No idea why. I hate ending on an odd number.1 -
@MobyCarp - that's so sweet of your co-workers!
@afrench050612 - I would maybe check with a local running store. I think it would be quite a big project to figure out on your own.
Intervals this morning - although much slower than the last time I did them. I feel a cold coming on. Weird, haven't been sick in several years and now 2x in a 3 months. Hopefully it passes quickly as I am doing everything I know to prevent it.

Race jacket and Medal, Live music along the course, Net 400 foot downhill course...I keep telling myself, I haven't run a half marathon yet, let alone anything more than 7 miles, but this one looks too cool, and it's only like 4-5 weeks after my other one, so It shouldn't be too hard to keep in shape for it.......
I would totally do it!...
Edit: I just looked them up after reading @kristinegift 's post. They do kind of seem to suck on the charity front. Ugh.0 -
New to this, but this is my April so far:
5/4: 2,54 miles
6/4: 5.13 miles
9/4: 17.10 miles

I was super bummed when I heard about it (I think maybe @7lenny7 brought it up after doing the Monster HM last year?) because the jackets I got from their races are still among my favorites, and I wear the marathon jacket almost daily

MNLittleFinn wrote: »well, it messes into my training schedule, but I just registered for a 5k.....Basically makes my Sunday run a 5k instead of 4 miler....Mothers Day 5K I'll be running with my mom, and my wife registered too and she and my sister will use the 5k as a nice stroll with my little man.
Now to decide on that Half in October...it's almost exactly a month after My September half, and they will be my first and second halves, respectively........
You are going to need a mile warmup before the "race". So no reason it won't be a 4.1 miler by the time you are done.0 -

No problem. Just do a one mile warmup before the race, and you have your 4 miles.

Very true. I didn't even think of the warm up because, when I run with my mom, it's at recovery pace, or a little slower. I'll get a nice warmup jog in and then do the 5k with her, she's working toward running and base building with the idea that we do a HM next summer together, so I'm doing all that I can to encourage her.0 -

I have been given the ok to have a 5k for the library but now I am not sure how to get the whole thing organized please message me if you have any ideas and they will be greatly appreciated!!
Ask for contact information for various race directors for some other 5K's and races in your area. Your local running store or track club may be able to help as well.

I would create a little committee and delegate well. Put someone enthusiastic, well-connected, well-liked in the community, and gracious to handle gathering in-kind donations for race food, awards, and give-aways, if you choose to do that.
Definitely connect with other leaders in the running community - or, if not, then maybe get PE teachers involved (get the kids = get the grown-ups). Start gathering volunteers now. Check with the HS track/XC coaches/guidance counselors and ask for volunteers from the teams (service hours?). Find someone experienced and reliable to work the clock and map/mark the course. Seek a sponsor for t-shirts (then give them lots of credit). Market your event early and often. I did event planning in a rural county, and it was all about thinking of where everybody went ... we became great friends with the churches, the banks, doctors offices, schools, etc. You never know what connection will lead you to a nice sponsorship or a volunteer who just kicks butt to get people to your event. Folks who do event planning for other events (i.e., Relay for Life) are accustomed to getting it done and might be willing to give you some pointers, too! Good luck! Sounds fun!1 -

You may also need the town's support to shut roads off and police to monitor traffic.
You may also need to have a certified course through USTAF.
EDIT: You may also want to think about insurance as well.2 -

I love that organization! Talk to your local running shop. They can help a lot here. Also, you can simply coordinate with another already organized 5k. They would very likely love to have Girls on the Run. My daughter's group did this with quite a few other Central Florida GOR groups, and it was great fun! The girls were a huge presence and draw and I had the honor of running behind my daughter. All the girls had a great time and we are definitely doing it again.
