My fav is similar -- baked, with cinnamon, ground chipotle, and a little fat of some kind (butter, Melt coconut oil-based spread, or olive oil). If I were pan-roasting, I think I'd try a squirt of lime juice with those spices.

They're awesome with hot sauce and a poached egg.
Also, Carolina pulled pork (vinegary and spicy).
Otherwise, I like them roasted with plenty of salt. I can't stand the sweet preparations.1 -
I cook them in the microwave and also split one with my husband. Yams (more orange color in the inside that the regular yams) are very sweet and don't need additional seasoning. Sometimes I peel them and roast them in the oven, like sweet potatoes fries. Very tasty.1

I didn't care for them for a long time either, just recently changed my mind too. I like them with a fried egg on top to take away some of the sweetness.1

Technically they are all sweet potatoes. Most of what's sold in the US as yams in some areas of the country (they tend to be called sweet potatoes here) are really sweet potatoes. Yams are different and uncommon in the US: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yam_(vegetable)
I eat both kind of sweet potatoes, but the orange ones more often.1 -
My hubby does mine on the bbq like a baked potato, but when it's done, he drizzles honey and sea salt and a touch of pepper..SUPER YUMMY! When I do mine, I'm a little less fun, I just use butter and salt. But I'm like you, I have no idea how I made it to 46 without eating them, I now consume at least 5 a week MYSELF!!0

I like to buy the sweet potatoes wrapped in plastic. They look like this:
Anyways, you keep them in the wrapper and microwave for 8-10 minutes. The great thing about this is they steam themselves. I've had better tasting sweet potato in this format than the really-long bake time.
I'm a simple salt, pepper, and a lil butter type.2 -
Sweet potato hash - dice and par boil a sweet potato then (using low calorie spray) fry with diced peppers, onions, a chopped chilli and some garlic, season with salt, pepper and a pinch of dried thyme and serve with a poached egg - awesome1

Also, we cut in half and lay face down on pan lined with parchment paper drizzled with olive oil and sea salt then drizzle olive oil and salt over the backs and bake at 375 for about 45 minutes -- they come out with a little "crust" that is too delicious! Everyone always asks if I've put honey or something on them -- nope. Doesn't need anything else!1 -
If you ever grill, coat some in a little salt and olive oil, wrap in foil and throw on the grill for an hour or so until they're nice a mushy. Let them cool, pop em in the fridge and eat cold with some salt and cinnamon.1

You can also make (not low calorie) sweet potato casserole. Boil them and mash them up with light brown sugar and butter until they have a mashed potato consistency and then add cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice, then top with marshmallows and pop under the broiler until golden brown and delicious. Sometimes I use canned yams if I am being lazy. I usually consume this twice a year on thanksgiving and easter.1

My current favorite is a rice/bean/sweet potato dish that is delicious hot or cold.
Roast the sweet potatoes with EVOO and spices (I like a jamaican seasoning, but also use garlic, cumin, cinnamon, salt and pepper).
Cook up some jasmine or brown rice. Mix in roasted sweet potatoes, some craisins or raisins, one can of rinsed black beans, chopped cilantro, and the juice of one lime. Divine!!1 -
My kids steal my baked sweet potatoes. And my sweet potato fries. And anything with "Mom's orange potatoes." They have to eat theirs slower, or I have to eat mine faster.
