Man, y'all are killing me. For the last 2 weeks, I've been the most consistent I've ever been exercising, cycling 5 miles during my lunch break. I know you got to start somewhere, but sheesh, I don't see 30 miles+ happening anytime in the near future.1

Eh, what the heck. Maybe some interaction with some of the fine people here will help me stay on the site this time. My goal is to be riding to and from work each day by the end of the month. That's a 16 mile round trip, if I do that every day... hmmm... that's 320 miles. I'm trying to take it slow since It's been two years since I did heavy bike commuting. Next months I'll try adding in leisure rides on my days off, maybe.2

May "photograph surrounding churches by bike" challenge
An odd church this, Mortimer West End Chapel, it's a 19th cent chapel attached to an 18th cent chapel in the woods, still being used, with working graveyard. My pictures are a bit rubbish as someone came out and watched me on my bike with a scary threatening demeanour. Maybe he thought I was up to no good! So i hurried away.

Welcome! Start short, add a bit at a time and the distance will grow before you know it. First time out I made it like a mile from my house before I turned around. Now I'm thinking I'd like to bike across the country (yeah, it's a bit addictive).1 -
I am coming off a long break from biking...at least 6 months. I just arrived at my new house up in the mountains in Colorado. I biked 10 miles yesterday. It was mostly on paved roads but to stay on paved roads means I have to bike back up the mountain on the way back. I climbed over 1300 ft in the last half of the ride. Today, I decided to go up so I could end with a downhill. But that means taking a road bike on gravel roads with hairpin switchbacks and scariness! I rode 9 miles and climbed 1400 feet in the first half. Coming down was something else! Beautiful but painful! Lol feels good to be back on my bike again!1

Missed my April goal so I will go for 300 in May. April had 2 weeks of cold, wind, and rain that really messed things up!

I knew I was going out to eat last night so I wanted to get in a big bike ride after work. I got in about 30 miles and I had been careful not to overeat during the day, so by the time I got to the restaurant I was hungry! Although I did eat a lot (and at restaurants it's hard to determine calorie content so I tend to over report calories), but even so, I felt happy about the day.

5/6 - 23 miles - gorgeous gorgeous 60 degree weather for the ride in. Almost made a fool out of myself though - I'd clipped out in anticipation of a stop, but my cleats got caught on the pedal and I almost went down in front of a police officer and a bunch of construction workers. That would have been quite a bruise to the ego, not to mention my body. Luckily I only wobbled and managed to stay upright.

Yesterday's ride was really great. It was my ideal weather (around 80 and sunny) and it was just one of those rides where I could have happily kept going except for the sun setting.

5/7 - 20 miles - I've had my Gunnar for 3 weeks, 2 weeks assembled, but haven't had a chance to take it out anywhere substantial until today. OMG it is amazing. So freakin smooth, light and nimble. Split speeds for today's rides were quicker, but that could just be a fluke of the wind or the day. I'm going to take it on my usual commute to work in the coming weeks to see if it's faster overall or if it's just in my head. I think I need to start a custom Gunnar touring bike fund. I can definitely see riding across the country on one of their bikes.
Also, I went on a mini etsy spending spree a few weeks back and got my last purchase today.

Main goal for May is a 100 mile Audax in the New Forest (southern England) on May 8th.
Last big training ride before the event was today - easy week ahead to arrive at the event with fresh legs.
Today's ride was 73 miles @ 16.5mph, felt good and even had some welcome sunshine at last - April was cold!
That took me to over 7000 exercise calories for the week.
Audax done!
Weather turned hot and the strong wind was a PITA! Although it was a circular route the wind was on my back on the flat, sheltered parts and in my face on the climbs and open moorland sections with no shelter. Never cycled so much on the drops and my poor old neck is killing me now.
My neck is a bit damaged from repeatedly throwing myself into the scenery and Armco barriers in my misspent youth as a motorcycle racer.
100.6 miles @ 14.7mph in drop-dead gorgeous countryside.
213.7 miles so far for the month.
