5/7 - 20 miles - I've had my Gunnar for 3 weeks, 2 weeks assembled, but haven't had a chance to take it out anywhere substantial until today. OMG it is amazing. So freakin smooth, light and nimble. Split speeds for today's rides were quicker, but that could just be a fluke of the wind or the day. I'm going to take it on my usual commute to work in the coming weeks to see if it's faster overall or if it's just in my head. I think I need to start a custom Gunnar touring bike fund. I can definitely see riding across the country on one of their bikes.
Also, I went on a mini etsy spending spree a few weeks back and got my last purchase today.

Main goal for May is a 100 mile Audax in the New Forest (southern England) on May 8th.
Last big training ride before the event was today - easy week ahead to arrive at the event with fresh legs.
Today's ride was 73 miles @ 16.5mph, felt good and even had some welcome sunshine at last - April was cold!
That took me to over 7000 exercise calories for the week.
Audax done!
Weather turned hot and the strong wind was a PITA! Although it was a circular route the wind was on my back on the flat, sheltered parts and in my face on the climbs and open moorland sections with no shelter. Never cycled so much on the drops and my poor old neck is killing me now.
My neck is a bit damaged from repeatedly throwing myself into the scenery and Armco barriers in my misspent youth as a motorcycle racer.
100.6 miles @ 14.7mph in drop-dead gorgeous countryside.
213.7 miles so far for the month.

5/8 - 20 miles - pretended to be a roadie today and did my fastest ever loop around South Minneapolis. I've basically made peace with the fact I'll never be fast, but sometimes I like to pretend and go all out.

@tristramtrent I love the idea of going out on a challenge like "photograph surrounding churches", sounds like a nice way to discover new places and bike routes around.
@asltiffm those elevations sound scary! And there I was whining about the 200 ft I have to climb on my way to work...

Last weeks cycling:
Mon 5/2 10.3 km - to work and back home
Wed 5/4 21.5km - to work, from there to the next village to do some shopping, then back home. Picked a nice traffic-less route through the fields. So now I realised my bike isn't really made for riding through mud, much less when it's loaded with hardware store purchases...
Sat 5/7 5.4 km - supermarket and back
--> 37.3 km (of 125 km goal for May) done3 -
3/5 5.6 miles indoor
4/5 5.7 miles outdoor
5/5 12.88 outdoor
6/5 10.5 outdoor with crazy hills
Here is the church at Padworth, with a 300+ year old yew tree of immense size. The hills nearby were nearly the death of me. I think if I am to become a better cyclist , this route is one to repeat!

Spent most of the day Saturday biking around town with a friend. Forgot to put on sunscreen so now I have a sunburn and will eventually have interesting tan lines. We made stops at a farmer's market, a bike shop, and a long stop to enjoy a few beers. I did find out that my "new" cruiser bike does not do well on hills and in high winds. The cute basket on the front acts like a parachute. I ended up having to have my husband bring my old German road bike to me when we stopped for lunch.
5/1 - 10 miles
5/3 - 3.2 miles
5/4 - 8.2 miles
5/7 - 24 miles
Total - 45.4 miles
Goal - 200 miles
Remaining - 154.6 miles2 -
I'm adding cycling to my fitness mix.. I started this back in July of last year, and I'm down about 30 pounds. As I get closer to goal, keeping the deficit going is harder and harder. I have a really nice bicycle I won in a contest two years ago that I didn't ride anywhere near enough, and I now have a job that is slightly closer to home and more more commutable, so I'm diving in and doing a bike/bus in the mornings, and primarily bike in the evenings.
5/03 - 14.3 miles
5/06 - 14.8 miles
5/08 - 6.3 miles
5/09 - 2.9 miles (so far)
Not bad for a fat guy who hadn't ridden a bike since he was 13!6 -

Though i was out for a couple of walks on the weekend I didn't log them with the app on my phone so won't count them (they were more photography / dog walks anyway) Back at it for the next 5 days which look pretty nice for the commutes0 -

My goal is to be riding to and from work each day by the end of the month. That's a 16 mile round trip, if I do that every day... hmmm... that's 320 miles. I'm trying to take it slow since It's been two years since I did heavy bike commuting. Next months I'll try adding in leisure rides on my days off, maybe.
completely doable mate, look at what I log as a commute approx 32km a day - about 20 miles (the ride in is brutal steady uphill for virtually the entire ride with 125meters in rise but only 12 meters in drop....the ride home OTOH is a blast). For perspective I'm about to turn 56 I'm still a good 30 lbs overweight and this is the most exercise of done since i was 20, thankfully its been a few years since i quit smoking or I'd be stroked out somewhere along the way1 -

This mornings commute my time improved by 3 minutes (triple espresso appears to be what I need)1 -
Hi there! I'm new to the group. I ride mostly on the weekends. Hit the gym 4 or 5 days a week otherwise. Just started riding a year or so ago. We are lucky enough to have a Rail-to-Trail conversion near our house. Very flat, crushed limestone and it is a true pleasure to ride! There are however frequent stops for wine or beer
This will be the first time I have set a goal, so we shall see how this turns out.

5/10 - 16 miles - happy international bike to work day! Rain on the way in, so I just biked to the train this morning. I had an eventful commute home though. A stupid huge black suv corporate car pulled out in front of me a block from work and I went down hard on my left knee and knocked one of my brifters off kilter. Hoping it won't be too sore to ride tomorrow. Will probably get a pretty sweet bruise though.
