Random: Peanut butter before bed to help with weight loss??

I read something yesterday that said that if you eat a spoonful of peanut butter before bed, it helps aid in weight loss.
I have tried to find a source to agree or debunk this, but haven't been able to.
Have anyone heard of this? Tried this?
Thanks

Sounds like BS to me.
Calorie deficit is what leads to weight loss, doesn't matter what or when you eat.20 -
False. It would be delicious, though!13

Out of Woman's Day magazine?9

Peanut butter is always touted as better with milk, but as to before bedtime, not sure:

I dont even know where I saw it, I think possibly on Facebook or something. It seems too good to be true so it likely is!2 -
The only ways this could possibly happen would be if peanut butter before bed caused a reduction in total calories consumed or a significant increase in total calories expended (more than the calories in the peanut butter).
I don't see either of these conditions being true.5 -

That's what I've had success with so far but anything as yummy as peanut butter that could potentially help was worth a question! LOL3 -

the OP in that thread you linked was asking if PB & Milk was better than Whey powder and milk. The replies were : No.

Nothing helps/aids in weight loss.
Eating fewer calories than you burn creates weigh loss.
Any strategy, method, tips or tricks that makes it easier for you to stick to a calorie deficit, can make it easier for you to lose weight.
Certain foods and timing of meals belong in that category of more or less useful strategies, methods, tips and tricks.
Everything else is hoax, myth, misconception, or deliberate scam to earn money.11 -
If you can't find a source it is not a good claim.
Calories matter for weight loss. Not the time of day or type of food.
If eating peanut butter before bed helps you stick to your calorie goal then do it. There is no rule or benefit other than that.

LOL this is what people usually tell people trying to gain weight to do. Peanut butter is so high in calories for such a small amount.3

I'm a strong believer in peanut butter and a glass of milk before bed.
Of course, that's for happiness, not weight loss.
ETA it doesn't hinder weight loss any more than it helps it. If it fits your calories (as I try to ensure that it does) it's a nice snack.10 -
I eat a small cup of m&ms every night before bed and I've lost 87 lbs. Evidence suggests that m&ms are a diet food.38

Unless you're very careful that could lead to weight gain rather than loss. I accidentally ate 450 calories of peanut butter as a snack a few days ago...peanut butter is not my friend.4

As long as you are in a calorie deficit, you can eat what you want--including peanut butter! I have a PB sandwich most of the time as a before bedtime snack and it hasn't hindered my weight loss. Its really easy to overestimate what a tablespoon of PB is though, so just make sure you weigh and log it!0

2 tablespoons (32 grams) makes a decent spoonful for only 190 calories.
"Accidental" overconsumption is much less likely if you weight the food before you eat it.0 -
A calorie deficit is the only thing that will help with weight loss. If eating some peanut butter at night helps you create that deficit then great. But there is nothing magical about Peanut Butter at night or any food at any time of the day.0

I love peanut butter, I wish a serving size was 1/2 a cup not 15 grams lol

It has to fit in your calories. Some people (or others at various points in the weight loss journey) find themselves waking up in the middle of the night hungry. Allowing enough calories/macros to fit in a SMALL high protein or high fat snack before bed can prevent this, probably because it's enough to keep your digestion happy without giving you heartburn.
But there's nothing special about peanut butter.0 -

I was with you.
Until the last sentence.10 -

Instead of looking to debunk this, look for evidence--not blogs, but real science--to support it. It sounds silly enough that I don't think anyone would spend time debunking it.0 -
No. Peanut butter is terrible. Have a casein protein shake.1

my dr told me to eat a small amount of p-butter + milk right before bed to help with my blood sugar issues. he said that combo (you can even add a graham cracker if you like) is good to keep your blood sugar steady all night. i haven't done it, but wow it sure sounds good. not too sure if it will help with weight loss; i guess as long as you enter it as part of your calorie count for the day.0

For me, peanut butter before bedtime would be a sure guarantee of heartburn in an old geezer like me. But if you like it and it doesn't keep you awake, go for it.
I did find this site which lists PB as one of the good snacks before going to bed, along with a bowl of cereal or cheese & crackers:
