Thanks Diet Pepsi, you just lost a customer-need suggestions

Maybe I am just cranky because I am at the tail end of a 16hr shift that I have barely had a chance to take a breather, but I was NOT looking for the antisoda brigade to keep trying to spout how "bad" soda is for me. I have read the science and I personally do not consider it harmful. Please stop the "just stick to water" nonsense.
As I have said twice before, I will do me, you do you. I get that some people believe soda is harmful, I don't need it repeated numerous times.33 -
I don't drink soda (the sugar kind has more calories than it's worth, and I hate the taste of all artificial sweeteners), but I just wanted to say congrats on your pregnancy!
And ignore those who tell you to cut soda completely, most artificial sweeteners have been studied to be safe in reasonable amounts, even during pregnancy! Good luck on your quest to find the perfect replacement!!6 -

It's the sweetner. I had been drinking diet iced tea for the past few months and literally bought Diet Pepsi again last night. I used to drink it all the time though.
You said you drank your "usually" (sic) Diet Pepsi, but now your story changes to say you haven't drank it for a few months. At work last night and I grab my usually Diet Pepsi
Diet Pepsi was sweetened with sucralose 3 months ago, and even twice that time (6 months ago). Tea would not taste like Diet Pepsi.
Here is the actual difference, though, compared to what you normally drink:(although this time caffeine free)
So even though you are adamant that it is the sucralose you are tasting, you have admitted that the only difference compared to what you last consumed is that this time, it was caffeine free. Do what you will with that revelation- I don't own stock in PepsiCo, so it makes no difference to me. At least now you have an opportunity to understand what you are tasting differently.
I do know that the caffeine free version tastes a lot different to me.
Source: I drink a ridiculous amount of Diet Pepsi! Lol my job only stocks Pepsi products and it's like heaven.
Anyways, tastes change and some people can taste differences more than others!

Coke Zero for me1
-
Coke zero is now available in a caffeine free form, but I think it tastes different. And I hate that taste. But, I have no clue if there is a similar difference between diet pepsi and diet, caffeine free pepsi (when I order a diet coke and the waiter asks if diet pepsi is ok, I ask for water...).0
-
I see that it's been mentioned several times, but Diet Dr Pepper is the only one I actually like. I'll drink Diet Coke, but I don't really like it, and if it's all that's available I'm tempted to not even have diet.
For all the people saying to just quit soda, yes, water is awesome. I spent a lot of time learning to actually enjoy drinking water, to the point where I crave it more than anything else. But some of us don't want to never drink soda again. I don't. I'd rather be able to enjoy it when I feel like it, and diet makes that easier. It's not poison, anymore than having the occasional cookie or potato chip is. So get over it, already.4 -

Ha, when a waiter asks me if Pepsi is ok, I tend to look at them like they've grown a third head. "No!" I want to shout. "When is Pepsi EVER ok???" But I'm from Texas. IMHO, the proper response when someone asks for a Coke is to ask what kind, and generally the correct answer to that is Dr. Pepper. Coke is acceptable too, but Pepsi is for Yankees.7 -

I drink a lot of Diet Pepsi, but I do not like the taste of caffeine-free Diet Pepsi. It is definitely a different taste.
Fun story about soda tastes - Did you know that the New Coke (for those that remember or have heard about it) was made from the flavor of Diet Coke? Coke and Diet Coke were always different flavors, intentionally. Coke's consumer research found that consumers liked the taste of Pepsi best, then Diet Coke, and that Coke tasted the worst of the 3. So they made the flavor of Diet Coke into a caloric version because they already had the flavor and it tasted better than Coke. They replaced Coke with this New Coke. It only lasted a couple months, but only because of nostalgia. Most consumers (including the leader of a movement to bring back the original Coke) in blind taste tests preferred the Diet Coke / New Coke flavor over the original Coke (now known as Coke Classic), but fought against the New Coke because they just didn't want to see a change.0 -
A friend of mine is allergic to aspartame, so we always check what's used in the diet soda we buy for her.
There are now two versions of Diet Coke, one with aspartame and one with Splenda. If you want to avoid the version with sucralose, cans with that version are marked with a yellow swirl.

Must be true - I'm originally from Boston and when I used to drink soda I'd ask for a Pepsi. If they asked if coke was okay, I'd say "give me a Sprite then" lol.

I do that too. When I drank soda, it was Pepsi or Sprite. But now I drink sparkling water because it's no calories and I cannot stand the taste of diet soda.4 -

Oh goodness! Haha! Maybe I've waited on you during my old serving days!
I worked at a restaurant about 8 years ago that only had Pepsi. People would always ask for coke and when I asked if Pepsi was okay, some of them had the same reaction as you! Too funny!
To be fair, I act the same way but with Pepsi!1 -
Diet A&W rootbeer - caffeine free. I drink this because I have reflux....very low acid.1
-
When they switched, my mom had to change from caffeine free Diet Pepsi to caffeine free Diet Coke. She couldn't stand the sucralose taste either. I've had a few regular Diet Pepsis since, but I've never noticed a difference, probably because 90+% of the time I go for Diet Dr Pepper.0
-
I've always been a pepsi fan, but aftertaste of the new diet formula has me making a whiskey face, and I haven't even tried caffeine free. I now driek Diet Dr Pepper, Coke Zero, Cherry Coke Zero and Diet Dew. I hope they don't switch the Diet Dew to all splenda. I might die. Not even being dramatic. It's a real possibility, I think.0
-
Yep, I hate sucralose, too. I was so unhappy when Pepsico switched to it. Pepsi Max still uses aspartame (last I heard) but I think it has more caffeine so be aware of that (because of your pregnancy )
I like Diet Dr Pepper and Coke Zero with Vanilla. If you are looking for non-caffeinated, the Diet A&W Root Beer is a good suggestion. My husband likes Dr Pepper 10, and I like the A&W 10 (they have 2 grams of sugar or something like that, and aspartame)0 -

Some people may not notice much of a difference between sucralose and aspartame flavors, or aren't bothered by it. For example, my brother notices a difference but he says sucralose tastes more like real sugar.
Other people can pick out a bit of sucralose taste in anything (like the protein powders). I can pick the sucralose flavor out of many things (without knowing that it's there, I check the ingredient list after ... usually on something that I didn't realize had switched). And some of us find it particularly disgusting. No need to pick apart the OP's words because you don't have the same experience that she does.7 -
Well congrats on the little one.
Sorry people are being ridiculous about when they changed sweetners because that is so important to your question somehow. I used to only drink pepsi and we just got the new version in our grocery stores last month. I would say try to do diet coke or diet dr pepper. If you like cherry soda then diet cherry coke works too. I can't do coke zero.

My experience has nothing to do with it... the OP's explanation indicates that she has drank Diet Pepsi with sucralose regardless of whether it was 3 months ago or on a regular basis, and that it tasted differently this time when it was caffeine-free Diet Pepsi. It really doesn't have anything to do with me, I'm just the first person who noticed and mentioned these facts.2 -

Actually, that is NOT at issue. YOU are making it the issue. SHE is just asking for suggestions for other things to drink, because she doesn't like caffeine free diet Pepsi.
You think you're helping, but you're not. She knows what she doesn't like. She's obviously not interested in drinking the caffeinated version, so how exactly does trying to convince her that she'd like it help? If she knows she doesn't like a particular drink, how exactly does it help to argue with her about WHY she doesn't like it? Is she going to say, "Oh, I do like sucralose! Now I will start liking caffeine free diet Pepsi!" Obviously not.10 -

Well, I own stock in Pepsico but the only soda I drink (sporadically) now is Hansen's diet root beer so, op, try that!
It's been forever since I've had a diet coke or diet pepsi or diet dr pepper (used to love that tho) so I can't say about the change in sweeteners but I remember never liking the caffeine free versions so that actually could have been it. They definitely tasted different.

I drink diet a&w root beer if I want a soda with no caffeine. It doesn't taste 'diet' to me. Otherwise it's diet dr pepper.
Sidenote: our tastes may differ, as I actually like sucralose. I put it in my coffee every morning. I don't mind the aspartame in soda but I would never put it in my coffee. Bleh.1 -
Mello Yellow Zero is great. Actually I like all the "zero" and "ten" diet sodas.1
-
I only drink water that I personally dip from fresh mountain springs using a cup that was handmade by a small native woman dressed only in organic clothes made of local flora. I don't know how you can drink soda.34
