I hear so much about waist training and I'm thinking of trying it myself. I have my first corset coming in the mail today. Is anyone else out there already doing it and if so how's it going. Also feel free to add me. Would love some friends on here to help me along the way

No it's a fad to make money
it dehydrates and potentially weakens your core
send it back unopened - get your money back11 -
Lol thanks0

The damage can be permanent.
Your diaphragm, colon, liver stomach, and small intestines can all be shifted around inside your body.
I envision a retirement full of back pain and pain medication addictions.

A couple of things with waist training:
- To waist train you need an expertly crafted corset custom made for you. DO NOT try to waist train with a mass produced corset, please!
- If you are not careful and work on your core musculature in the periods where you don't wear the corset, it can be terrible for your posture and core muscles, as they can get lazy because they have to work less.
- Unless you do it 23/7 for years, it will make no changes to your body that last when you take off the corset.
- It will not help you lose weight (if the corset means you are uncomfortable eating, it doesn't fit you right).
All in all, waist training is not a good idea for health. I tend to compare it to having stretched piercings and the like. If you really like the look of it, sure, you can do it, but it takes work, research, dedication to do it right.4 -
Despite the ads and gimmicks, nothing beats the combination of clean eating, moderate to high intensity training at least 3 times each week, and sleep/rest management in my opinion. Sure it is a longer process and may seem boring, but it works! It's true what they say, abs are made in the kitchen. If you are willing to invest into a healthier and better you, you have to put in work. You get what you put in. Simple as that.0

I have also recently got a waist trainer, I find it quite comfortable and wear it for about 2 hours a day I think as long as you don't wear it for too long its ok ?0

They don't do anything worthwhile. Edit to say they don't do anything at all4 -

May as well just wear your hair in braids for 2 hours a day ...same level of effectiveness ...less potential harm though8 -
No, just don't.2

I have something similar from when I hurt my back. I wore it daily for weeks when healing. While I looked thinner wearing it and my posture improved I lost no weight and my shape went back to normal when I stopped wearing it.
The flexible back supports are pretty much the same thing as the "sport trainers" so I don't believe the claims of danger or my doctor wouldn't have put me in one. Although if someone misused them I'm sure you could constrict breathing and hurt yourself. That's pretty much the case with anything you misuse or abuse though.0 -
Hope you can return it and get a refund!

I own a waist trainer, but I only wear it maybe once a week on a night out.0

I don't understand the negativity, waist trainers are every bit as useful as sauna suits and tin foil hats.9

What is really the point of wearing one of these, besides squeezing yourself into an unnatural shape?1

One of the stupidest ideas ever, popularized by the stupidest family on American TV.6

I wear one while I work out! Traps in the heat to your core. It fits snug so it's not suffocating me at all. More swear to my core!1

More heat in your core? You mean it makes you sweat? That doesn't do anything but dehydrate you. Where the hell did this idea that sweat = fit come from?3 -
The dehydration trick has been used by body builders for years. They dehydrate themselves to make their muscles look more pronounced, does not make you fit, just means you're thirsty.2

No, just no.3 -
RachelCali29 wrote: »I wear one while I work out! Traps in the heat to your core. It fits snug so it's not suffocating me at all. More swear to my core!
And makes your core and back muscles weaker as they don't need to work as effectively2 -

This is a very bad idea.1 -

This is a really bad thing to do because really "heat" means thisSassyMommasaurus wrote: »RachelCali29 wrote: »I wear one while I work out! Traps in the heat to your core. It fits snug so it's not suffocating me at all. More swear to my core!

And also it means that this happens which is a negative effect against the energy you're putting insuzyjane1972 wrote: »RachelCali29 wrote: »I wear one while I work out! Traps in the heat to your core. It fits snug so it's not suffocating me at all. More swear to my core!

And I would add an independent thought of "Please don't do it "3 -
Corsets are great, I really enjoy them. I'm not really sure those cloth "waist trainers" do much of anything though. Real waist trainers you have to get professionally fitted and yes they do work. The people above are uninformed and just throwing out their opinions. Check out Dita Von Teese. years and years of waist training works. However, you're not losing weight, you're redistributing it. Also, it's probably not the best for your body medically speaking when you're moving around organs and muscles and whatnot. If you're getting one of those cloth ones (which I suspect you are becuase those are so popular lately) I'm sure you'll be fine.0

A properly fitted corset is a very different, and very different matter but again would need to be worn 23/7 over years to affect any semi permanent change. This thread is about waist trainers
I think you'll find most of the people are not throwing out baseless opinions on waist trainers...but please...if you have any proof to the contrary please do share it. I'm sure we would all like to read any proper studies on effectiveness of waist trainees

Wat?? You enjoy getting your insides rearranged but not the best for your body medically speaking? LOL2 -
I've had my insides rearranged 3 times in my life, was worth it in the end but not the funnest, It gave me horrible heartburn. lol
If you don't get it I'm talking about pregnancy. The only natural organ rearranging there is and even that isn't always safe.2 -
