Happy July (almost). Declare your own (fitness) Independence and come and join us for a full month of running. You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to keep you accountable and enjoy a virtual coffee with your fellow runners after you run. Make new friends and learn a few things.
Hi everyone. This is a continuation from the June 2016 Running Challenge which can be found at:
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10401085/june-2016-running-challenge/
Anyone can join in. New & Old. And if you found this thread late, you can join in at any time.
We have members that are total beginners all the way to marathon maniacs and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch.
Here the details from last month that applies here again.
Anybody want to join me for a running challenge? Set a goal here and mark it every day here. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (If creating ones seems difficult, then don't let that stop you. Just type in your daily miles here.)
You can run, walk, or do treadmill. Just be consistent. I am setting a goal for 250 miles. Don't let my high (or low) goal intimidate you. Some can do 25, 50; whatever you like. We can help motivate each other. What do you say? If you are new to running, set a low goal. (You can also log your miles in km's if you choose.)
You can set your goal now but wait until Friday July 1 to start logging your runs.
Also, don't forget to join our group which can be found at:
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/21182-monthly-running-challange
There you will find lots of good info, and it's a place where everyone can talk to each other for further motivation. It's also a place to find help when there is a problem with this thread.
After you run, come into this thread and post what you did. (don't forget to hit the star in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread) Keep a running tally of what you did this month, and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chat it up even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things to include running. Very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time). Talk about a recent race or one coming up. Ask questions, provide answers, or just learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs, follow what many other people are doing. Even look at last month's thread that I posted above.
*******OPTIONAL TICKER*************
Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker.
Then you need to update it after you do a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your pin in that you set when you created your ticker account.
Then where it says "Your current cumlative value, there is an add button. Just add what you just did and the cumlative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
Now after you added your new miles (or km's) to your ticker you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting on how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the img tags around that link. So it will look, (removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets. ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker.
1: Use the link that ends in .png
2. Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
3. remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
4. YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
Good luck! And happy running (or walking or treadmilling, ect). If you have any trouble or have questions, please feel free to PM me.

July Mile goal: 70
Actual goal: Run the Red White and Boom HM well, recover well, run the Park Point 5 Mile (7/14,not racing) well and begin training for September Boundary Waters Bank HM. Have to see how things shake out with the HM, Hoping my mileage for the month doesn't suffer too much!5 -
July mileage goal: 140 (?) - at least 135 (again)...4
-
I'm in! Still recovering from the Seattle Rock n' Roll marathon a couple weeks ago, but looking to get my mileage back up in the coming weeks. I'm in for 90 miles in July.5
-
I'm in for 110 this month.4

you'll rock it!1 -
Now that my 50k in July is out due to just getting back from 3 weeks on the bench I plan on doing 5k to 10k distances with more focus on speed/strength and backing down to one long run per week for July, and transitioning back towards a higher mileage focus beginning in August to prep for the back to back runs this fall.
Surprisingly 150 miles looks doable. I guess I'll go with that.5 -

LOL, go for it! your cutting back month is still more running than my normal months... you got this!2 -
I'm going with 60 miles. Still nervous to set it too high until summer is over.5
-
July goal: 200 miles. I'm going to avg around 50-55mi wk. But I'm not on a plan or anything. Just running by feel. Random workouts. Mostly easy miles. I don't like waking up at 4am to run, so most of it will be on a TM.
I have a fun run (5k) on the 9th. Forecast is 115f. Definitely NOT going to race it at 5k race pace .4 -
Ok, I'm going to start small and do 25 miles as a goal for this month. I will see how it goes, if it seems like I'm getting through it faster, I can always up my goal. Since this will be the first time, as last month I joined half way through and didn't really track much. Next month I will set a higher more challenging goal.9
-
I'll join and go for 25 miles. I'm slow and out of shape so we shall see...9
-
Got past my very conservative goal for June, even with iffy knees & joining in a few days late. Gonna challenge myself this month with 35 miles.5
-
Hi I'd love to join on week 7 day 2 of c25k.
I hope I can keep up the jogging (even though I'm as slow as Christmas!!)
I'll aim for 45 km9 -
Since July is probably going to be a whole lot of HOT, I will be modest in increasing my goal. I'm going to go for 35 miles.5
-
I'm sticking with 80 miles, seeing as I fell short in June due to being run-down/ill/who knows. At least I'm off work for most of this month, which means absolutely 0 excuses! Bring it on7
-
I'm in for an easy zero. I'll be on crutches another month.
I may be able to ditch the brace in 2-3 weeks, doubt it, but it's an option if my nerve heals up enough. Its demyelinated in a section. Still no swimming, or anything that involves straightening the leg.
I am accepting donation miles. Rock on runners!13 -
My goal is 35 miles. I'm getting back into running after slacking off for way too long. Going to plan to run 3 days a week, ranging from 2-3 miles a run so I don't hurt myself
Woohoo!7 -
@elise4270 I'll make you a donation of 10 miles4
-

Score!2 -
I'm giving @Elise4270 a run for her money with a goal of 0 miles for the month. I may or may not be able to start doing some short runs at some point in July. I should have a better idea after my next post op on July 5th.
I met all of last month's goals (0 miles, ditching the crutches, stitches, and boot and working on range of motion).
Other goals for this month: attend strength class at least once a week, get back to spin class, get up to an average of 6k steps per day.9 -
Pending how far I run tomorrow, June should come in between 125 and 130 miles. I'm in better shape now than at the start of June so I think I'll set a nominal July goal of 150 miles.
July Goals:
Nominal challenge goal, 150 miles
Real goals: Run Shoreline, manage the expected heat and humidity to finish in good shape, don't worry about being anywhere close to a PR. Build base toward Rochester Marathon. End the month being comfortable running 5 days a week. Live through a month at work when I can only work from home one day a week. (Okay, that last one isn't a running goal; but the newly degraded work at home policy is going to make running a lot of miles less convenient.)
2016 races:
January 1, 2016 Resolution Run 7.5 mile (Mendon, NY) finished in 53:58
January 9, 2016 Winter Warrior Half Marathon (Gates, NY) finished in 1:30:59
March 12, 2016 Johnny's Runnin' of the Green 5 mile (Rochester, NY) finished in 32:32
March 26, 2016 Spring Forward Distance Run 15K (Mendon, NY) finished in 1:05:24
April 18, 2016 Boston Marathon (Hopkinton, MA) finished in 3:23:01
April 24, 2016 Flower City Challenge Half Marathon (Rochester, NY) finished in 1:36:50, targeting MP
May 15, 2016 Highland Hospital Lilac Run 10K (Rochester, NY) DNS - injury
June 19, 2016 Medved 5K to Cure ALS (Rochester, NY) DNS - recovering from face plant
July 16, 2016 Shoreline Half Marathon (Hamlin, NY)
September 18, 2016 Rochester Marathon (Rochester, NY)
November 24, 2016 Race with Grace 10K (Hilton, NY)3 -
I met my goal of 40 miles last month, and I need to add miles to my runs so I think 50 miles is a reasonable goal. If I do 4 runs a week, 2 of them 3 milers and 2 of them 5 milers and a small cushion for life and a cut back week should put me closer to 60 miles but I want to stay conservative so I don't re-injure myself.
Races :
6/11 Run and Ride 5K Cedar Point - Done
7/10 Debbie Hudacko 5 mile ?
10/8 Outdoor Trail Series 5 mile #1
11/5 Outdoor Trail Series 5 mile #2
12/3 Outdoor Trail Series 5 mile #3
12/11 Santa Hustle Half Marathon Cedar Point3 -
I'm going to up my goal from 80 to 90 for July.5
-
I believe I'm going to shoot for 75 miles in July. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!!5
-
I'm aiming for 30 miles.5
-
Can I join? I will aim for 25 miles as a start7
-
-
If i do 3 runs a week at 5km per run that will be 60km. Also my goal is to run the whole 5km without walking by the end of the month.4
-
.
2 -
My goal is 45 miles for July. I don't exercise regularly but I'd like to start!3
