You guys are awesome! Or maybe @Elise4270 & I are awesome for motivating you all to add to your goals. LOL
Speaking of @Elise4270 - I do upper body weights all the time. I have incredibly wide shoulders, but I think they look better when more "toned." I mean, if they're going to be massive anyway, they might as well have some shape to them. Lateral raises are my friend. Lifting weights has not increased the bulk factor at all for me. I still have to buy shirts that only fit my shoulders and are too big everywhere else, but I don't have to buy any bigger than I ever have. And I don't have fat pads bulging out of anywhere anymore--bra straps, tight sleeve cuffs, etc--, which is nice.4 -
Got through a bit over 200 in June, but I'll be spending most of July in Florida so I'll up my cycling (600) & swimming (10 hour) goals, and drop my running goal to a more manageable 180 miles.
2016 Race Schedule:
Disney Marathon - Jan 6 - 3:29:09
Gasparilla 15K - Feb 20 - 1:01:59
Ironman 70.3 Florida - Apr 10 - 5:07:51
Pittsburgh Marathon - May 1 - 3:08:25
Ironman 70.3 Augusta - Sep 25
Chicago Marathon - Oct 9
Ironman Florida - Nov 54 -

Oops. That should have said 50 miles! I decided, last week, to start back on a "beginner" half marathon training plan starting this week. "Beginner" referring to someone who runs, but not distances. I am currently a bit pudgier than I have been by a good 10 lbs which was already about 10-15 lbs over what I should be, because I like food and beer, and I have been incredibly lazy the last few months, only running sporadically. I also discovered Costco's dark chocolate toasted coconut cashews, which I am now obsessing over, and I stumbled upon bags of honeycomb chocolates (which are pretty much impossible to find in the US), and I have been eating more chocolate in a day than I probably should in a week. Anyway, I decided to get back to the basics with this running, eating, working out thing. We'll see how this goes.5 -
@cljoe7 & @Elise4270: Thank you. In all honesty, this group has helped me recover. I found you guys about a month after my mom passed. Reading the posts every day or two and being challenged and held accountable helped motivate me and keep my mind off of things. Seriously! I'm hoping @zoe2434 has a similar experience here.6

I am in for 100. I want to do 120 but I have the SF HM at the end of the month and a very busy work month on the schedule so I am not going to push it.
@zoe2434 and @instantmartian - Take care and hang in there. While it seems right now that nothing will ever be the same it takes time for the pain from the loss to dull a bit. I lost both my mom and dad way too early and while it has been many years it still hurts sometimes, but life goes on and it does get easier and back to normal.
@Elise4270 - I do upper body workouts regularly. I also have broad shoulders and I don't think it has changed my shoulders or arms other than to make them look toned and damn good. Plus I love being strong! Like @ceciliaslater I no longer have those fat pads or bulges either.3 -
I'm hoping for a slightly less hectic month and get a bit more consistent with my running so I'm going for 70+2 miles, got 3 miles planned for later today starting as I mean to go on .2
-
I added the 2 donation miles in and this brings me to 32 miles. That used to be at most a third of what I'd run in a month, but pregnant and back to being a beginner, this will actually be pretty hard. I've got it figured that if I run 3 miles on Mondays and Fridays, and 2 miles on Wednesdays, I should end up at 35 miles, so that gives me some wiggle room for days when it doesn't work out as planned. Hopefully I can increase this more next month. Thank you for motivating me3
-
I took up upper body workouts when I started running back in March, but I haven't seen any changes to bulges/extra fat. I'm kind of starting to see some muscle, mostly my triceps, but I probably really need to lose those last 10 lbs if I want them to be noticeable.
In happier news, I bought new running shoes today (since I had promised myself new shoes as a reward for reaching my July goal). I've always gone with whatever was on sale so far, so it was really exciting going to the running store and getting measured and stuff. Expensive too, but hey, priorities.5 -
100 miles for my goal this month.4

Thank you to everyone for the kind words!4

July 1 - 5 miles with hill repeats - I love how garmin makes it look so extreme

Ha, @greenolivetree - it looks like you ran some crazy mountain range.
My running buddy somehow talked me into running at 6:30 this morning, so I'm feeling pretty accomplished that I've already completed my long run of 75 minutes/6.29 miles today. Woo hoo! Good start to July.

Hi everyone,
I'm aiming for 60miles again this month but again probably wont make it as it's another busy month. Got a trip to France to watch a little of the Tour de France in the middle of the month to look forward to. I'm going to take my Garmin with me to record walking up to the summit of Mont Ventoux which I can hardly wait for! Good luck everyone!!

2 of 110 miles
@lporter229 sounds good mileage donation
Wow ugly attempt at run this morning. Awful start, tired heavy legs, sick to stomach, stopped once and heart rate was booming. Decided to cut my losses and run home. I might try to get out tonight when it cools off a bit. I think part of it is I have cut my calories to loss a few lbs and I need to my body to catch up.
Welcome to all the new people and welcome back to some who have been away and returned!4 -
July 1
5km Done
3 -
Outside of elementary and middle school, I've never really run before. But I'd like to start! So I will challenge myself with 25 miles this month.8
-
@Elise4270 & @ceciliaslater Feeling your pain and frustration with not being able to destroy shoes by burning up a trail. I will be getting back into the grove this month so I will loan / give you 10km from my limited goal.
Hoping for a 100km recovery month. 1 week of travel for work, 2 weeks vacation so limited running time.

OK, turns out that I did 83 miles in June. So, I'm in for 80- 100 this month. 5K July 16th. Training for my first Half Marathon September 25th.5
-
I am going to continue with another goal of 50 miles. Trying to build my base.3
-
I have a question. I don't want to steer my son wrong. Alex is 21, very small frame ~140lbs, 5'9"ish, no athletic background, but ideal runner! He is in week 2 of his training program, (Its a 5k in 30 days). He is up to 2 miles solid already, 10-12MPW, pace is 8-9min/mile in the heat . Sheesh, took me month's-years to do 2 miles straight and break that 10 MPW barrier, and get sub 9.
I think he should be able to do the Jenks half with us in early November. Does anyone think that could be a stretch?0 -
I was a mile short of my goal last month, but still going to up my target to 75 miles this month, we have an extra day to do it in anyway3
-
So I've never run before. I see this every month and I want to join but never do. I think this month I'll give it a try! 25 miles? Sounds doable!8

That sounds like an absolutely awesome trip. Have a blast, and I can't wait to hear about it!1
