@robotfood and @kristinegift thanks for the response. Thursday she ate a protein bar an hour before her run and today she didn't eat at all. Perhaps a hydration issue? I'll have to do more reading on it. She's gotten into a bad habit (in my opinion) of drinking while she's running...3 miles or 10 she is drinking at a 1/4 mile. I'll have to ask if she was drinking Thursday or not.
@kristinegift great run today congrats - I recognize the spot you are standing in
@respectthekitty I'm almost 55 5'6" and 120ish lbs. I burn between 80-90 calories a mile at around 10+ min mile. You really should find something to track your calories burned. My calories are set at 1400 but I eat back my calories to net at least 1200 if I run that day. I know it sounds stupid but sometimes it's hard to eat 1800 calories or so to get to 1400 net, makes me wonder how I got 60 lbs overweight ha ha! But I can eat a horse on my rest day. So I need to watch that. When I was at my running peak 120 - 140 miles a month I seldom paid attention to my calorie intake.
@_nikkiwolf_ sorry but I had to laugh at your post, what a run you had. I'm impressed you got out there.
@stoshew71 how was the trail over there? Nice pix. From Jenn's post looked like she had a great run. We ran into a woman walking back to her car in Research Park, she left it by the start line, she didn't realize how close the finish was to the start if you walk out of Midtowne and walked the course backwards to get to her car. Poor thing I didn't have the heart to tell her she was less than a 1/4 mile if she walked the other direction.
Edited to add: she didn't drink the exercise mix Thrs but had fruit with the protein bar about an hour before her run I'm reading that fruit/fruit juice is a big no no before your run. @kristinegift I forgot to say she did the opposite foot on exhale because I've use that before and it did help some.1 -
@skippygirlsmom I wish I found it hard to eat 1800 calories. I lose on 1800 but I'm a pig and want more!
@kristinegift Congrats on the 5 mile PR
I just realized I'm 50% done with my 60 miles goal and only 9 of 31 days into July. Maybe this month I'll hit a new high mileage.

5 km run through the jungle - We have had a lot of rain this spring/summer so the Bush trails are getting overgrown. Need more traffic on them to keep them beat down. Actually cut it a little short as one of the Hills looked like a water slide so I turned and headed back. If I was at 100% I would have went for it but not worth the risk of re-injury. Still slowly building my distance and time up. I know that there will be no race events until September at the earliest - recovery is slow - its like a bad taper in reverse.
07/01 – 0.0 km – 0.0 - 100 km Goal for the month might be overly optimistic
07/05 – 4.0 km – 4.0 – 96 km
07/07 – 4.0 km – 8.0 – 92 km
07/09 – 5.0 km – 13.0 – 87 km – YTD 632.2 km

July Mile goal: 19.1/70
Actual goal: Run the Red White and Boom HM well, recover well, run the Park Point 5 Mile (7/14,not racing) well and begin training for September Boundary Waters Bank HM.
Today's notes: First run after my HM! I did 5 miles today at a pace that felt easy, though it appears my HR data doesn't agree...average HR of 158....it never felt like I was pushing it. Legs felt good. They are a little heavy now, but I attribute that to running a HM, then not doing any running for 4 days. Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things!
Run 2: Ran to the store to get lunch, and it ended up that I forgot my wallet, so I had to turn around and head right back. 1 mile run, and set a new adult PR for 1 mile at 8:25 for the run. I'm pretty darn sure that if I had actually been running for real speed and not carrying a backpack I MIGHT have gotten it under 8:00. Good run, especially after this morning's run, and recovering from the HM6 -

When I was running later in the day after work, I lost my evening appetite. But when I run first thing in the morning, I'm hungry.3 -

Had a bit of trouble with breathing today - - asthma's flared up a bit the past few days due to the weather/ allergies - - none the less, I managed to jog for 20 minutes straight almost without stopping. Had to stop a couple times very briefly just to catch my breath (stupid asthma), but that was it. Pace was ridiculously slow. It was surprising I was actually moving forward But, I did it. Yay! Must have been the cherry pie carb-loading I did yesterday
Goal: 35 + 2 for Black Toe Month

I'm the same. Even if it's only 3 miles in the morning, I'm like a starving beast all day. A run, even 10 miles, in the evening though and I would happily not touch anything until breakfast.
Anyway, guess which moron fell over last night while wearing high heels and having drunk a little bit too much tequila *sheepishly raises hand* I've had pain all down the bottom of my right foot all day, although it has significantly eased since this morning and a walk around the supermarket seemed to do it the world of good. I'm hoping I can make it out for a short run tomorrow and move my long run to Tuesday instead. This month is off to a bad start already for my running, I've only made it out 3 times I'll just have to catch up before I go on holiday on the 30th, knowing that I at least have that week off to recover!1 -
260 posts behind, just can't deal with it. I'll have to start from here and go forward. Maybe. With less work at home, more commute time, transition to running 5 days a week, and putting more time into looking at investments as I transition to retirement, a lot of online activity got squeezed out this week. That could happen repeatedly over the next 7 weeks or so before I have all the time in the world.

Real Goals: Become comfortable running 5 days a week. Finish Shoreline in good shape, managing the expected heat and humidity better than last year. Build base toward Rochester Marathon.
Today's notes – Haven't found time to post here, but I have found time to run. Since my last report, running has become more and more normal. Today I didn't feel the recovering leg as different from the healthier leg till my post-run stretching. I'm pleased with that. This week has featured high humidity for just about every run. It's uncomfortable, but it should help prepare me for Shoreline next Saturday.
Today's assignment was to pace 10 miles at an 8:30 pace for the local training program. We were a bit overstaffed for that pace group; Jim and I didn't have any trainees at all when we started out. Just as we started out, one drove in as a late arrival, and we waited for him. Normally, we have clear roads; but because we delayed the start, we got to pass several slower pace groups. Along the way, we picked up a late arrival who needed to catch up to his normal 9:00 pace group.
The 9:00 guy was an interesting lesson in natural easy pace running. Instead of dropping off with the 9:00 group when we passed them, he continued with us. He kept up just fine for 5 or 6 miles, then started trailing a bit. Well, we had two pacers; so I let Jim run with the guy who was assigned to us, and I dropped back to keep the other guy company. We slowed to 8:45, and some stretches at a real 9:00. Got to the end of the first loop (8 miles) and he decided to wait for the 9:00 group to catch up.
It appears he would be fine with a 9:00 group that tends to push the pace a bit, but an 8:30 group that tends to push the pace a bit is too fast for him to do long distances. We had a nice conversation about this along the way, where I described what happened to another guy who wasn't quite fast enough to run with us for longer mileage.
After the next 2 miles, Jim and I dropped the trainee who was assigned 10 miles, and did another 2 on our own. Without being responsible for any trainees, we were closer to 8:00 than 8:30 on that last 2; but that's okay. For our own separate reasons, 12 was enough for each of us.

Welcome to the circus! Where to start. Truck tire was flat, crawled to gas station to get air. Drove remaining 10mi. Made race start with 3min to spare. Went out at sub 7:00/mi pace. It was 101f and windy. 0-2mi was ok. I then slowed because I got too hot. I then realized I missed a turn. Stop, walk around. I'm in 2nd for the 5k and no one is around. 10k front guy is out of sight. I continue I then pass 3.1mi. Realized I f'd up bad. Ran more. Hit 4mi and saw the start line. Ran to it. Collect medal because I'm a medal horder. Chug like 5 waters. Felt like I crossed the Sahara while wearing a hoodie. Ok guess that's what I get for not looking at the course pre race. Oh well. Still fun. Hope I provided a little entertainment for you're Saturday night
