@suznhenz - I also am intrigued by the trike. I did some research and there are several companies that make them. Terra Trike's entry model is on the lower end of the price spectrum but they also offer a foldable version, if you're willing to pay more. There's a company here in Austin that carries them, that will allow you to test drive the bikes and find one that meets your needs and preferences. It's called Easy Street Recumbents and it specializes in recumbent trikes and bikes. There may be a similar store near you, @pstegman888 - their website is http://www.easystreetrecumbents.com/ and they have a really nice comparison of the several brands they carry that's very helpful.

Yes, I checked out TerraTrike's website and some other internet info also. The nearest rental/demo bike shop is almost 2 hrs away, so I'm hoping to get some user feedback before making that kind of time commitment (plus I have health issues that limit my stamina so a 4-hr round trip is a very big deal for me). I saw the foldable model on the website. Good idea if it's not too cumbersome to handle. Thanks for the info.0 -
Tuesday - Goals (do you have any Goals you want to update us?)
I have challenged myself to loose 48 lbs by Christmas, 6 down 42 more to go...
I have challenged myself to reach my 10k steps per day...well first I have to remember to put on my fitbit each day haha
I have challenged myself to not let others dictate how I feel or how well my day goes...I am in control of MY emotions and MYSELF
have a great Tuesday all!!2 -
Tuesday-Goals: I am focused on being a healthier version of myself by next May when I will turn 40. 40! Objectives: Take one day and 1lb at a time, eat to fuel my body not to fill an emotion, drink more water and less sugary drinks, incorporate more exercise by finding physical activities I enjoy, stay committed to loving myself enough to keep moving forward even when I want to throw in the towel when I dont see immediate results.
I wish you all success in your personal goals2 -
I've got a long way to go, but today has been great so far!2

Wow, so many newlings!! Welcome to all of you; I can't wait to get to know you better.
I was out of town over the weekend. We surprised my parents with a 50th anniversary bbq at the lake house my sister is renting. I was worried they were onto us, but they were completely surprised. It was a lot of fun visiting with family I haven't seen in awhile, but of course, my eating wasn't on point. At least I was pretty active with walking back and forth to the beach and swimming on Sunday.
I'm not even going to attempt personals, but I did spend yesterday catching up with all of your posts. Today I need to get a bunch of stuff done around the house, and submit an article I wrote before heading off to the lake house again tomorrow.
Tuesday Goals:
Keep my calories under control while at the lake house Wed and Thurs. It's so easy to just snack on junk while there, but I'm going to work really hard to not let that happen. I'm especially going to focus on keeping my protein levels up.
General Goals:
1. Edge flowerbeds
2. Make doctor appointments
3. Take winter coat to cleaners
Fitness Goals for the month of July:
Visit gym or run outside minimum of 12 times 4/12
Run at least 6/30 miles
You vs Year Challenge:
211 k done/ 789 k to go
Exercise Goals:
Sun-- at lake house
Mon-- mowed lawn
Tues-- walk gunner + work out
Wed-- at lake house
Thurs-- at lake house
Fri-- walk gunner + work out
Sat-- walk gunner + work out3 -
My biggest goal is just to move more and continue making smarter choices. Had some m&ms today did not let it derail me. Kept under my calories. So life is still going great.1

Tuesday goals
I would like to have a cleaner diet with fresh produce making up 3 of my 6 small meals a day of about half my diet.
Since my son has started football I have stayed under calorie goal but am consuming foods I normally wouldn't consider meals. (Like popcorn for lunch)
Also get back to eating breakfast daily. Idk why but lately haven't been hungry. Need to force something small in reguardless
Currently no fitness goals because I'm still in the wheel chair but I have another pt app tomorrow1 -
Monday - Check in
On Monday I wore a pair of scrubs that previously I hadn't been able to fit into. Even after I started to lose weight I was afraid to try them on for fear that they would still be too tight. Not only could I put them on but they were a little loose. The scale hasn't moved but I am a happy camper.
Tuesday - goals
My goal this week are:
1. to actual start measuring and logging my measurements. I haven't wanted to see what those numbers were.
2. continue to try to work out at least every other day.
3. continue to run outside. I run further and I enjoy it more. My runs have really been mostly walking with a little running added, but since I ran outside I went further with a lot more running than I did before.
4. fit into this Burgundy dress my daughter bought me for Mother's Day that was just one size too small. I might actually fit into it now but haven't had the guts to try it yet. (I have three weeks for this goal)
@taburbey words to live by I think
@runto107 Hopefully you will be up and moving soon, but don't rush your recovery. No one wants a set back. Try having fruit or yogurt when you aren't hungry. A diet Dr told me the best way to increase your metabolism is to eat 6 small meals a day. If you skip a meal especially breakfast your body thinks it is starving and goes into fat storing mode.
@skinnyjeanzbound sounds like you had a great time. I love when all the effort of a surprise party turn out just the way you wanted.
@dawnkimber3 Here is to many more days like that!
@LissBlisspgg You can do it, it won't be easy but you can do it. Good luck!
@suznhenz & @pstegman888 I showed the trike to my son and now he is trying to talk me into buying him one...lol
@Nikion901 Always giving great advise. I like reading what you write every time. It helps keep me motivated to stay as healthy as I can

Wednesday - Wishes (what do you wish? It can be weight related or not, can be realistic or not)
My wish is coming around again ... get my butt out of this office chair and into the rest of the house and world.
Todays topic got me to thinking about wishes. Of course, we all have lots of wishes that pop into our thoughts. Some of those are just wishful thinking ... like I wish I had a date with Agent 007 or a million dollars. Other wishes become something we hunger for, think about every day, cannot imagine a future without it ... and that's the point in time that we have the opportunity to start the journey to make that wish come true.
I did a little re-reading of some of the articles I've accumulated about reaching goals and they all have a stream of thought that is common, so I'd like to recap them here ...
The Fundamentals of Making Wishes Come True
1. A 1,000 mile journey begins with the first step taken.
2. Words have power.
3. Be realistic.
4. Believe in yourself.
5. Don't listen to the nay-sayers.
6. Get hungry for it.
7. The right time to start is NOW.

Wednesday - Wishes (what do you wish? It can be weight related or not, can be realistic or not)
I wish for the day that I can go shopping and not leave feeling bad about my image. I wish for a day that designers would not treat large people as second class...like we don't deserve to look and feel good about our appearances.
Shopping for a dress for a wedding (somewhat casual) and most stores that have what I want only go up to a size 12 and I've gotten lucky with some that sell 16, but they look like 12...ugh!!!
but I did find one, thank you Dressbarn!1 -
Missed out on a few days. Just the thread, not logging!
Wednesday Wishes
I mostly wish for the strength to continue. So far I've kept very focused and conscious the last four weeks. I do hope I can continue in this path. I've had a few doubts in the last couple of days, but I pressed on. So yeah, I'm wishing for strength and follow through2 -

Go for it! I've always wanted to do one and finally did my first back in June. It was AWESOME! I walked most of the way (that's okay!) and I was the last person to cross the finish line (people still came in after I did, but they started taking the finish line down after I crossed). The 5K was part of a larger event and later, during that larger event, some random guy came up to me to tell me that his 6 year old daughter saw me pick up my pace to jog the last stretch to the finish line and got all excited and wanted to "run the race too, Daddy!" It isn't often that a random guy thanks this (then) 300+ pound woman saying she's an inspiration. He had no idea that I had that I had lost 80ish Lbs or what the rest of my story is. Totally made my day!
I recently did my 2nd 5K (this one was a bit more formal and organized than the first one) and even walking a majority of the way, I came in before about 1/4th of the other participants. I came in 99/168 of all the other women in my age category and had a personal best pace. And I had a TON of fun. I got to see part of Safeco Field (Seattle's baseball stadium) that few others get to see. So fun!
I guess my whole point is that you don't need to be a runner nor do you need to be in great shape to do a 5K. The only thing you need to do a 5K is the motivation to do one! Also, if you are in the Seattle area, you can have a 5K partner in me!2 -
I went 21 miles yesterday on my trike, and did 11.69 miles today. Tuesday and Thursday are my long-distance days, as DH is playing horseshoes those mornings. Other days I try to do 9 - 12 miles. A lot depends on when I get up. It's summer here in Florida, so early morning is better than mid-day, although on Sunday I go out around noon (after church). In the past, if I woke up earlier than usual, I would roll over and try to go back to sleep. Now, if I feel rested, I put on my biking clothes and take off-it's not an obligation, it's a joy! It's due to two things: buying my TerraTrike two months ago and the sidewalk along RT 19 that runs half the length of the state, and that was just completed a couple weeks ago only 2 blocks from my house. Timing was perfect!4

New to the community. But not new to losing weight. This isn't my first rodeo unfortunately.
Wednesday wishes...to put action to all of my great plans. Nike...just do it!!! I wish for my health and mobility to be returned to me. Wishing for new friends to motivate me and for me to help motivate you as well.1 -

That the Eye Dr was just joking with me when she said that I need bifocals. 10 years ago I had laser eye surgery so I wouldn't need glasses after 2 years I needed reading glasses but only 1.0 strength and only if I was reading a lot. Now in the last month like a light switch I can't see as clearly as I did before. She says I need glasses for both near and far AND unfortunately each eye is different so I can't just wear the cheap store glasses. This is a bummer!0 -
I just joined the amazing race challenge!! Day 1 in and it's been lots of fun so far!1

Thursday - truth
I weigh myself daily but I don't always record my weight. I now that your weight can fluctuate and even in the same day it go up or down a pound or two. I refuse to record my weight unless it is less than the one before. I know it is stupid but I think that mentally I need to see it go down and would lose confidence itf it went up. So if you don't see a weight entry for awhile then it might mean that I gained a bit and refuse to acknowledge it formally on my graph.

Same boat. I get downhearted sometimes, but then I think about where I was just 2 months ago. 45 lbs heavier and having great difficulty just performing everyday tasks. The weight loss and the changes might not happen as fast as I want them to, but then I think that what I am doing now is way better than what I was doing then. I might make myself happy stuffing my face, until I stop stuffing long enough to look at myself and get depressed about what I see. In the past I would just keep eating to deal with the depression even though that is the very thing that was causing it. I finally got to a point where I wanted to like myself again and I am finally getting there (at least starting). So yeah man, keep on keepin' on. It's tough sometimes, but a year from now you will be glad you did.3 -
Thursday truth- I usually start out pretty well with eating right and being more active, but about a month into it, I start slacking. I start making poor food choices telling myself that I've worked hard and I deserve it. I start skipping work outs telling myself there's always tomorrow. I am doing all I can right now to stop that from happening again. Instead of rewarding myself with food, I have made a list of other ways to pamper myself. And, on days when I want to slack with a work out, I will find another activity that I enjoy doing, fight off boredom.0

I fell off the wagon during the first week of July, when we went on vacation. Got off my entire schedule.
Okay, back on track...with a serious goal to ramp this plan up.1 -

I do exactly the same thing. It's frustrating to me when it's been a long time since I've recorded a weight, but if I'm being honest, it's usually BC I've been a bit too liberal with my food choices.

Thursday Truth ... one of the goals I had set for myself was to stop relying on take-out and restaurant meals, and to cook all my own meals. Looking over my budget, I can see that I have not had any such meals since June 5th ...
There have been times where I really wanted to but made myself go into the kitchen and fix something instead. Like yesterday, a local hot dog stand that is very popular in my part of the world had throw-back prices where you get get a dog for only $1.25 each ... and I so wanted to go and buy a couple for a meal but I told myself that if I wanted a hot dog so much, then they should end up on my shopping list instead.4 -
@wadwrich Thank you for those words my friend. I'm right there with you exactly. I really appreciate that.
Thursday Truth - Today is a big step for me. I've been doing pretty good so far with food. My real issue is the gym. Its hard for me to get pumped to exercise. I can't seem to ever get in the habit. So I worry that I will falter. I don't think I'm ever going to stop all the proper eating I've done so far. Its now just habit for me. But exercising is my biggest weakness0 -
Thursday truth:
I also weigh myself everyday and even throughout the day. I know what my normal daily gain is before bed and can now tell if I will have a loss the next day or not.
This last week I have had gains though. Probably from the girl flu lol, but it does get discouraging. I also have not been great with my water intake this last week. I really need to get back to drinking the amount I was.0 -
Thursday truth:
Sometimes I am too stubborn for my own good. I woke up in pain, but still wanted to work out. Foot hurt a bit much for walking. Trying to peddle the bike made my knee loudly complain. I was going to power through it when I remembered that doing that is how I got hurt in the first place.0
