Welcome aboard everyone!
Mostly doing more intense training rides so far this week, but planning a leisurely long ride tomorrow as I'll get a chance to spin out the damage from earlier rides and runs.
8/1 - 15 miles (w. 10 mile solo time trial @ 23mph - out & back)
8/3 - 33 miles (tri team ride)
Total: 48 miles
Goal: 621 miles
Remaining: 573 miles
Upcoming Races:
Ironman August 70.3 - 9/25
Ironman Florida - 11/53 -
@ummsqueaky - Bicycling magazine had a great article on a bike trek across iceland a few months back, although the roads weren't exactly inspiring, the scenery was pretty amazing. Feel free to check it out at http://www.bicycling.com/culture/travel/iceland-seriously2

Ok then, my goal is a measly 100 miles for the month. Vacation is going to make it a challenge.

I had initially planned to do a long 3-digit ride today but some intense rain lasting late into the AM and dinner party hosting plans shortened my ride to 83 miles. Although I wanted to go a bit further with my ironman being about 13 weeks out (and weekly max distances of about 50 miles for the past few months), I ended up pushing the pace a bit more given the shorter distance, and was pretty happy with my power numbers at the end when I was finishing into some stronger winds.

Just some ballpark commuting the past few days as I've returned to the north. Took the long route today though, but will take it easy until Tuesday to properly recover from my planned long run tomorrow.

Only one day of cycling to add for the rest of the week - Tu & Wed I had to take the car to work for various reasons, and Friday we had thunderstorms. .. Excuses, excuses! I'll have to try a bit harder next week, if I don't want to fall too far behind wrt my goal.

I bought a bicycle to start riding to work two months ago, mostly for the extra exercise and to help get in some much needed 'me' time, along with the veritable cornucopia of unmentioned benefits.
I have cycled to work since all but 3 days where the weather was really bad, averaging about 65-80km per week plus an additional 310.38km over the weekends in local scenic bike trails last month and maybe half of that the first month I owned my bike.
Definitely the best thing I've done for myself in recent memory. The best part for someone losing weight is I've had up my calorie intake twice now just to lose at a slower pace. Pure motivation.
I'd like to gradually increase my trail riding up to 600km - 800km or so per month during the spring and summer seasons, by this time next year.4 -
@ummsqueaky - Bicycling magazine had a great article on a bike trek across iceland a few months back, although the roads weren't exactly inspiring, the scenery was pretty amazing. Feel free to check it out at http://www.bicycling.com/culture/travel/iceland-seriously
@Ohhim thanks for the link! Iceland would be a fabulous bike trip, if I had more time. Argh time.0 -
No particular goal this month apart from getting my old Roubaix back on the road - it was crunched by a myopic car driver last year. New forks and wheels on order to make it my "fast bike". Felt I hadn't spent enough money on my hobby this year!
My wife may not agree with my assessment.....
Also doing a little experiment by incorporating leg work back into my strength training, I don't tend to do any weights for my legs during the cycling season but would like to add some size and strength to my legs. Doing it at the start of the week so I get recovery time before my weekend rides.
Weights Monday and Wednesday and straight back to maxing out the leg press and leg curl machines despite not using them for 4 (?) months.
Tuesday - 21.1 virtual miles on eSpinning bike
Thursday - 24.2 virtual miles on eSpinning bike - time trial mode.
Saturday - 45.9 miles fairly fast.
Sunday - 43.4 miles, really hot, humid and windy.
Week 1 total = 134.6 miles.1 -
8/1: 28 miles
8/2: 22 miles
8/3: 28 miles
8/5: 28 miles
8/7: 12 miles - did a mini tri this morning to practice transitions, 200 yard swim/3 mile bike/2 mile run (really only 1 mile run but I did the run twice). 16 women, I was in the middle of the pack out of the swim, and then first after the bike. Lost my lead rather quickly on the run (shocking I know). Overall it was a lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to the full sprint next weekend. If I can get through my mental block vis a vis running, I can definitely see triathlons as a long term hobby.
Month to date: 128 miles
Year to date: 2544 miles

Added 12 miles this morning during a Sprint distance tri.
First week total is: 93 miles.
Dropping my bike at the LBS tomorrow for some TLC before my next race, so expect mileage will be reduced this week.2 -
Hope I'm not too late to join the challenge.
My goal is 24 hours of cycling this month, which equates to about 550km. This month culminates in the Hertfordshire 100 Sportive on 28th August, so I'm training hard to build up my distances before then.
So far, 2.5 hours and 60km.3 -
