@katharmonic A Starbucks right at the end of your run sounds very convenient indeed. I'd normally say I would prefer a simple espresso, but right now, anything "iced" sounds heavenly.
@kristinegift When it comes to olympics, I'm usually fascinated by things like pole vault - you never know if the bar is going to fall or not... Swimming is pretty nice to watch too, running as well (of course!), other things like volleyball and fencing don't really interest me - and there's no way you'd catch me watching golf, lol! For winter olympics, I like biathlon and ski-jump, those are interesting to watch, most of the rest I ignore.

Tough few days running. Heat and humidity have been beastly. Thursday I really hurt my upper foot/ankle somehow, particularly painful across the top where the shoe ties, and then re-injured that Saturday and spent the rest of the day either icing it or wearing an ankle sleeve. Took it easy today and tomorrow is a rest day. I hope for cooler days and earlier runs. The rest of the Strava crowd is putting up killer miles. You are running animals!!

Sorry, being very poor about posting again but better late than never.
Aug 3 - 5 miles (first 5 miler this year) in 54 mins
Aug 7 - the day of my 10k race, so unsurprisingly 10k in 1:04:41
This is nearly 5 minutes slower than last year, but I'm very happy with it. I had pneumonia in March and it took me several weeks to feel up to any kind of exercise, and I really didn't think I would be running today.5 -
I'm going to goal myself at 35 (since i'm joining late and i'm also a beginner runner) let's do this5

I have Matt Fitzgerald's DQS app. Its been updated. Still a bit buggy but definitely more user friendly. Tracking is easier and it doesn't need to be reset each day. It crashes when I add profile information. But that's not why I use it, right.

8/07: 10K race (51:59 - 6.30 miles) + 2.13 mile warm up

Overview:
Ran the Chicago 10K this morning! Obligatory finisher picture below haha.
Still felt pretty sore from yesterday’s 13 mile long run so I took the race on the easy side. Finished in 51:59, only 5 minutes slower than my PR from April -_- I knew marathon training was making me slow! As @kristinegift pointed out, the heat doesn't help either (though I doubt that could account for 5 minutes!). I'm trying not to be too disappointed/upset about slowing down a bit. I just keep reminding myself that my main focus is on building distance at this point, and that become a little slower is expected. Plus I'm getting distance PRs almost every week so that is pretty cool! In April, a half marathon seemed really really far and now, not so much. Now if only my legs would stop being so sore!

So, I'm back from holiday. I did catch up on posts a couple of times from my sun bed though, but it had to be stealth, as my boyfriend did his nut when he saw my running shoes in my suitcase. Our relationship didn't last the duration of the holiday (only about 5% was the argument about the running shoes!) I saw the posts about posts and laughed a lot, as did the article about the dating profile, and whoever shared a story about their son having gotten the all-clear for the big c-word made me put on more suncream and spend more time in the shade than I ever have done before. Sorry I can't remember who posted them all to tag you!
Anyway, back to reality today and it felt great to get outside and run. Not great physically, my muscles took it in turn to moan about not being on a sun-lounger, but mentally it felt brilliant. It also brought my appetite back, as I haven't felt like eating for a few days and have been forcing myself through meals. My stir-fry went down in minutes after running though!

OK. I need some help figuring out my Cutback week this. Last time around it was easier, because I was running less mileage, and wasn't being so hardcore about it. I've averaged 40 mpw the first 3 weeks of this training cycle. I'm trying to figure out how to structure or not structure my cutback. Normal weeks looked like:
Mon: 4 miles
Tues: 7-9 miles hillier
Wed: 4-7 miles (depends on how many I ran on Tues)
Thurs: 7-8 miles (Tempo run, Steady State Run or Cruise Intervals)
Friday: 4 miles
Sat: 10-14 miles
Sun: Rest
I'm aiming for like 25-30 miles for this week, so I can still run a 9-10 mile long run and will probably be running a Tempo Run of 30-35 minutes plus W/u and C/d on Thursday.
Thinking about skipping tomorrow's run, but that's as far as I got. Any thoughts?3 -

Another rest day....and after the 10 mile run, I need it. Tried foam rolling for the very first time.....OUCH!...have sore quads, lower back and hamstrings.
Will try to catch up with all of the posts tomorrow, as long as there are not 6 pages worth...LOL!
Plan to run either 4 or 6 miles tomorrow.4 -

@kristinegift - my next HM is on gravel roads/paths. I am hoping it won't be miserable. I don't have anything like that where I run other than the dirt service road which has a bit of gravel on it. I am running it with my daughter so I won't be pushing for a PR, we are working to get hers under 3 hours, but just running on gravel for that long worries me.
@katharmonic - wow at Starbucks right at the end of your run! That would be my dream!! When I go out to run hills there is one at the base of the hill once I run over it. I have considered going in but then I would only be 1/2 through my run... one day maybe
@_nikkiwolf_ - I can't stand running with anything in my hands. That is one reason I use a waist leash for Hobbes the Vizsla. I like the compression shorts/capris with the side pockets. My phone and fuel stays snug there and they don't budge and it is so easy to get to them. I love your art trail! I wish we had something like that here it is so neat!!
@ariceroni - great picture! Question for you - do you wear your compression sleeves when you run or just after? Why on just one leg?
@louubelle16 - Glad you had a nice holiday and so sorry the BF didn't last. You need to find a fellow runner who will also bring running shoes on holiday!
Rest day for me so I have some time to catch up on all the activities while watching the Olympics. I enjoy the swimming as I was a swimmer and my daughter swam competitively into college. I even had the wonderful opportunity to meet Michael Phelps on a flight to Baltimore - he was asleep in the seat across the aisle from me and we chatted at baggage claim. Despite all of his problems he is a very nice person and I am excited to see him swim again in Rio. I also love watching gymnastics and am amazed at what they can do. Of course I am excited to see the running too. For winter Olympics it is all about the skiing for me. I was downhill and slalom racer as a kid and I love to live vicariously with the skiers!5 -

Nominal Challenge Goal – 200 miles
Real Goals: Survive last month before retirement. Train as well as possible toward Rochester Marathon. Avoid putting myself back on the couch.
Today's notes – Today I struggled with motivation. At 4 PM, I was lying on my bed procrastinating about going for a run while the Garmin said I only had about 3000 steps so far today. I think there's something about how I've structured my activity, sleep, and nutrition on weekends that makes Sunday motivationally challenging; I'll have to think about what I need to do to address that.
The one saving grace is, I have a plan. A training plan, and it looks like this is the first week I can actually come close to following the scheduled workouts, physically. I could still have some scheduling and time crunch challenges, but physically I feel good enough to do it. So I got out for today's assignment of 60 minutes at E (as in "easy") pace.)
The biggest challenge was just getting myself out the door. Garmin says I started running at 4:30 PM, when it was 82º F (28º C). There was a light intermittent breeze, and it wasn't as humid as it has been recently; so once I got moving, I tended to stay moving. After the first couple of miles, it became pleasant. Except when the breeze died down and I really felt the sun on the black tech shirt I had foolishly put on.
I ran an ad hoc route around the neighborhood, and had to make up a junk mile to get my 60 minutes in when I got close to home. Got a brief run through a greenspace to remind myself that cross country season will start soon, and still ended up having to do a 2 minute out and back on my street to make the target time at my driveway. Looked at the stats, and I ran 7.75 miles in 1:00:02. Hmm, that seems a bit far. Yep. I'd lost pace control later on, and ran the last 3 miles in the no-man's-land between E and MP. Oh, well. Considering how close it came to just lying on the bed reading and finishing the day with about 4000 steps, none of them running, I'll cut myself a little slack on the pace control.
I really sympathize with @kristinegift on the need for mental toughness to do what needs doing. I really like to run, and it took every shred of mental toughness I have just to get out and start. And then it took the mind game trick of having a 60 minute target to get me to run as far as I should, instead of declaring victory the first time I got close to my driveway.

One thing driving me batty on the Olympics, and maybe it's just here, nothing is on one channel. So far it's been on channel 8, 24, 33, 44, 66 at all different times. I'm getting tired of looking around ha ha.

@shanaber I hope the race goes well! I complain more about running on "loose" (aka: not pavement) terrain more than anyone I know. No one else in my running group finds it as uncomfortable or difficult. But it really drains my legs! I am sure you and your daughter will have a good time. If it's on gravel/dirt, then at least it's scenic!!0

How in the world do you guys get past a cold while running? I can't breathe! Went the first night, but it's worse yesterday and today. I can barely breathe walking let alone more.4

Gee-haw people! 168 posts?! Glad today was a rest day - I'd never have time for scanning them otherwise.
I might be getting started as a ... not a mentor, or coach. Call it an accountability partner. Got a friend at work who does tris, but hates running. One day last week, I caught up with him and said, "I need a couple miles today - interested in a run at lunchtime?" He agreed, and we did C25K W4D1, and he said he hadn't actually run at all since July. He's now agreed to running with me a couple days/week, and I'm gonna suggest that we restart C25K, since he's not feeling up to the full run segments on W4.
I'm not qualified to say "boo" to him about form or anything like that, but if we can drag each other out a few days/week, it'll be good for both of us - speed him up and slow me down!7 -
