    Welcome enonymous01
And you don't have to enter at the start of Sept. If your setting your goal for 300 for Sept. add 75 or 100 for Aug. and start riding now.

Took a rest day yesterday to recover from my long Wednesday ride, and needed it for my triathlon team's sufferfest ride this AM. Kept up most of the way, but had the misfortune of having the strongest rider in the group behind me in the paceline, as after a late pull, he decided to crank it up to 30mph (flats, slight headwind), I fell back, and had to ride the last 5 miles solo as I ran out of steam after trying to chase them down (burning at 500w for a minute before giving up). Still, got in a mid-distance ride to grab lunch with a neighbor this afternoon at a slow easy pace, so I'm mostly recovered. If I don't get suckered into a min-team ride, I'm likely taking a rest day tomorrow to let my legs rebuild.

    8/1 - 15 miles (w. 10 mile solo time trial @ 23mph - out & back)
    8/3 - 33 miles (tri team ride)
    8/4 - 83 miles (solo long ride - 18.3mph / 143 watt avg)
    8/5 - 11 miles
    8/6 - 20 miles
    8/7 - 11 miles
    8/8 - 5 miles
    8/9 - 23 miles
    8/10 - 24 miles
    8/11 - 11 miles
    8/13 - 34 miles (18.9mph / 152 watts / 171NP)
    8/14 - 71 miles (18.7mph / 158 watts / 174NP)
    8/16 - 38 miles
    8/17 - 112 miles (19.1mph / 142 watts / 160NP)
    8/19 - 66 miles (group ride + lunch ride)

    Total: 557 miles
    Goal: 621 miles
    Remaining: 64 miles

    2016 Races:
Granfondo FL century - 23.4mph TT segments
    Ironman Florida 70.3 - 5:07 / 2:39 bike split (21mph)
    Ironman Augusta 70.3 - 9/25
    Ironman Florida - 11/5

@enonymous01 - Definitely welcome to jump in 2/3 of the way through the month if it gets you going. Just list your goal (mileage, time, etc..), and keep posting your progress as you get closer to it.

I'm still stalking this thread. Wednesday I see the doc again and should be able to ditch the crutches and ask about some cycling. I may have to go back to regular pedals rather than the clip in. We'll see. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a mountain bike cheap, not box store cheap though.

    Love everyone's miles!

Decided to head out with my hubby's friend today... he likes to putz, but sometimes that's fun. We checked out two new paved trails and a short off road trail through the woods and got some lunch.

No particular goal this month apart from getting my old Roubaix back on the road - it was crunched by a myopic car driver last year. New forks and wheels on order to make it my "fast bike". Felt I hadn't spent enough money on my hobby this year!
My wife may not agree with my assessment.....

Also doing a little experiment by incorporating leg work back into my strength training, I don't tend to do any weights for my legs during the cycling season but would like to add some size and strength to my legs. Doing it at the start of the week so I get recovery time before my weekend rides.
Weights Monday and Wednesday and straight back to maxing out the leg press and leg curl machines despite not using them for 4 (?) months.

Tuesday - 21.1 virtual miles on eSpinning bike
Thursday - 24.2 virtual miles on eSpinning bike - time trial mode.
Saturday - 45.9 miles fairly fast.
Sunday - 43.4 miles, really hot, humid and windy.

    Week 1 total = 134.6 miles.

Monday - "legs" in the gym. Jumped the weights up significantly.

Tuesday - squeezed in a short evening ride, 28.1 miles. Got a 5th place on a Strava segment, fast but "bumpy" ride.

Wednesday - more "legs" in the gym. Five days on the trot working my legs - feels like more than enough! Who put my quads through a mangle?

Thursday - gentle recovery ride (6.5 virtual miles) on a trainer in the gym to flush some blood through tired muscles.

Friday - Planned to do my first "permanent route" Audax today (solo ride not an organised event) - 204km / 126 mile circular route across the South Downs and Salisbury Plain. Day got off to a bad start - short / poor sleep and a splitting headache. Then loads of things to sort out at home meant a late start driving down to Winchester. Two horrendous traffic jams on the way and instead of a morning start I didn't get on the bike until 2pm. No chance to complete the course in the time before sunset and didn't fancy unlit, unfamiliar country roads after dark. So just had a taster - drop dead gorgeous scenery but not a fast route, constant changes of elevation rather than really big climbs, very hard to get a rhythm. 69 miles at a "touring speed" of 14.4mph, 3,960' of elevation. I will have to go back and do it properly.

Saturday - legs got a rest!

Sunday - local roads, 50 miler. Strength training seems to be having an impact - legs feeling very tired but I'm setting good times on uphill stretches and climbs without feeling like I'm really pushing hard. Got a big PR improvement (+2mph) on one long (8 minute) gentle rise.

    Week 2 total = 153.6
    Monthly total = 288.2
Monday - more legs included in my strength work, paying dividends on the roads but it does add to fatigue.
Tuesday - late ride on a perfect summer's evening, Garmin went to night mode just as I arrived home. 29.8 miles.
Wednesday - more strength work, more leg presses and curls.
Thursday - Rest day! What a strange feeling.
Friday - attempted 200 watt average for an hour on WattbikePro trainer. Just missed target at 196w - too soon after dinner and was in danger of seeing my dinner again.... 22.8 virtual miles.
Saturday - Strength work but just upper body and core work. Legs got a rest.
Sunday - Nice ride out to Surrey countryside, went for a mainly woodland route to try and shelter a little from a strong and blustery wind. 57.9 miles.

    Week 3 total - 110.7
    Monthly total = 398.9 miles

(New forks finally arriving next week but now the workshop is booked up until September! Curses.....)

Here's a tip for people - checks your inner tubes!

Changed a tyre yesterday and didn't want to reuse the old tube. Used a new spare from my stock but it failed when trying to inflate. Gatorskins are a beast to fit but pretty convinced I hadn't nipped it on fitting. Annoying!

Found an old tube but that failed when inflated. Getting very annoyed now!

So took out my last new spare from my saddlebag, inspected it before fitting and found a hole, that was a brand new and untouched tube. Bit of a "gulp" moment as that's been carried on the bike as my spare for about the last 1,500 miles including some trips to pretty remote areas.

So lesson learned - I'm going to check all new inner tubes in future and not assume they are perfect.

My new pedals arrived :) Before I could install them, I first had to face the challenge of getting the old ones off. Which only took me half a day, along with a substantial amount of WD40, a ruined allen key, all kinds of tweaks found on the internet (long leverarm, heat up the screw, and some blood sacrified to the chain rings when my hand slipped - okay, that last one was actually listed as something to be avoided, but nvmd). But in the end I succeeded!
So finally the new pedals are mounted, along with new tyres and a bottle holder. I still have to install the cleats on my shoes, then I can give the whole clip-in riding another shot.

For now, I've just got a few short no-clip rides to add.

Aug 13 - 408 km cycling (1485 min) ... no, that's not a typo. My husband and I rode a 400 km randonnee starting at 7 am on Saturday 13 August and finishing 24 hours and 45 minutes later. I have the story almost ready to post to my blog, but essentially ...

We've been training for this for the past two months and chose this particular one because it fit in our schedules and was relatively flat. We started strongly, but at the 200 km point, I broke a tooth (the tooth was in questionable condition to begin with) which made the remaining 200 km a little more challenging than I had hoped. Breathing through my mouth was painful, so I was reduced to breathing through my nose. And eating was painful, so I ran rather low on energy. I was hoping to finish within 24 hours, but I guess an extra 45 minutes wasn't too bad. :)
We rolled into the start location at 7:45 am on Sunday.

    Aug 15 - 0.5 km walking (7 min) ... airport.

Aug 16 - 3 km walking (35 min) ... to the beach and back to stretch things out.

Great to see so many of you are still riding loads - very inspiring! Last month was an awesome month for me as I got in 1200km plus a cycling trip abroad :D . The first week of Aug was pretty much non-existent (vacation with my sister <3 ). 639km so far this month, I guess 800km is within the striking distance, 900km will need some pushing, 1000km is a big nah. No pressure just ride B)

Goals for August were 100 miles and average 14 mph - I am just over 130 miles (YAY ME) and speed is slowly improving. Its getting darker so much earlier now - Going to be harder for me to get good rides in, as I usually only have an hour or so in the evenings available, and some weekends...

Phew, this afternoon it was really windy! Or course, it went from headwind the first 30 minutes to no wind for the last 15 min. I wonder where the tailwind went that I was looking forward to when I was struggling against the wind during the first part of the ride? ;)
After arriving home on the road bike, I switched directly to the city bike for a short trip to the supermarket (easier to transport stuff). That felt really strange! Aparently, I've gotten used enough to the road bike now that sitting upright on the bike (as I did all my life until a month ago) was weird. Maybe I need to make sure to use the old bike at least for one commute per week, so that I don't unlearn riding it completely.

I completed a Century Ride (100 miles) on Saturday. My average speed for the ride was 15.8 mph. I did the same ride last year at 14.7 mph, and the year before at 14.3.

I think 3 things contributed to my improvement this year:
I lost 10 lbs by counting calories, I increased my protein intake, and added barbell squats to my training.
