Welcome to our September Cycling Thread!

If you are new to posting on this thread, or if you are new to cycling, We welcome you! If you are returning from a previous thread, We welcome you, too.

This thread is for anyone who rides a bike. Do you bike to work? Do you pull your children to the park? So you ride weekends? Do you spin, at home or the gym? Do you race crits, ironman, or centuries? Or, are you just starting out and remembering how much fun you had biking when you were a kid? However you choose to push your pedal, you are welcome on this thread.

@SingingSingleTracker - Thanks for creating (as I'm a bit late to the game).

Tapering for the Chicago marathon (10/9) and Ironman Florida (11/6), so cutting back to 400 miles this month to make sure I'm well rested and don't force my marathon recovery. Still, got in a longer ride yesterday (80 miles) but peeled off from my friends early as I don't want to compromise my taper for my marathon next weekend.

    10/1 - 80 miles

    Total: 80 miles
    Goal: 400 miles
    Remaining: 320 miles

In theory, I should be able to do 20 x 29 = 580 miles. Pragmatically, some of those rides just won't happen due to adverse weather, so I'm going to set a target of 400 miles and hope to exceed it.

How many days are in October again? :-) "Okay Google"... 31 days.

I'm signing up for a stretch goal of 400 miles, and I'm already behind, yikes!

10/03 - 12.0 miles, REB (Recumbent Exercise Bike), 12.0 down 388 to go.

I'm in! Hopefully the weather won't be too dreadful now that summer is over; I'll try for 200km again.

    Day 1 in.

    Mon 03 - 31.6 miles

    MTD 31.6 / 400, YTD 2011.51 / 2500

First 0mph fall over over of the year - on the way home, a kid ran out in front of me, fortunately when I was moving fairly slow through traffic; I managed to stop in time, but couldn't unclip and.... timmmmberrrrr!

Very cold this morning. This evening started out pleasant enough but the temperature dropped like a stone for the last 15-20 minutes of the ride.

October signals my switch into crazy trial prep mode - biggest trial of my life starts the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. October goal is to bike at least 3 days a week, swim at least 2 and not go out for lunch more than twice. Ultimate goal is to end the trial without gaining weight.

@sakvani, there is no minimum or maximum requirements. Do what you can, however you can, whenever you can. Just turn those pedals.

Sure! If you do 30 minutes at 20 mph, that is 10 miles per stationary bike session. If you go every other day or so, that is 150 miles. But you can set the target at whatever you'd like.

My target for October is 400 miles, I did 333.6 miles in September and I want to make a stretch goal for myself. I do stationary (recumbent) cycling and road cycling.

    Good Luck!

I just realized I've saved myself a tank of gas by biking to work! It took me a while, but I think that's kinda cool! :)

I'm going to commit to 200 miles this month as I'm going to be on the road for a week.

Work hard, everyone, have fun, and post your progress -- it's definitely motivation fuel!

I just purchased a bike . I've done 57 KM already. I'm interested in joining this challenge . How do I get this challenge to show up under the " My Challenges " selection though ?

    I think I'll shoot for 300 km this month . I'm a beginner . I think that's reasonable . Maybe it's low . If I've got more in me than I'll go for more

10/4 - 23 miles - gorgeous fall weather for the most part after a very rainy late September. Like 60 degrees on the way into work and 75 on the way home. The morning commute is now more and more in the dark - I usually try to leave by 6:30 but I've been postponing it until a bit later so it's lighter out. Gotta get into the dark commuting mindset again since it's going to be that way until the spring.

So far I have been using the stationary bike. Now i am thinking of buying a bike which I can take out side. Any suggestion the kind of bike to buy or what should I look when buying the bike.
