    Just started this challenge and am a bit intimidated by the numbers everyone is posting. I had bariatric surgery and am still obese. Am trying to increase my activities to improve my health. The hard part is I am disabled due to a hip problem. Sometimes walking is hard. Have started exercising 3 times a week with a friend and trying to increase my walking. Any suggestions to help reduce hip pain/discomfort so I can increase my walking it would be appreciated.

    I do not have any suggestions for the hip pain/discomfort except for physical therapy. I had to go for a groin injury and hip flexor. I have some pretty weak muscles in those areas and they had to teach me the exercises I needed.

    DO NOT be intimidated by others numbers. Only concern yourself with your numbers and what you can do. The challenge is doing better for yourself, not besting others numbers.

    I'm not sure how to reduce your pain, maybe you can speak with your physician for suggestions. Don't be intimidated by the numbers, we all started somewhere! This is for you!! We're all here to better ourselves. It's great that you started exercising with a friend! Keep on moving B)

    Echoing tuffgirl19 and AlphaHowls. I have hip flexor problems and I worked with my physio to change my gait. I now take smaller steps, keep my core activated, ribs over my hips with my hips pushed slightly forward to keep my pelvis in line, then I push with my heel when I step to activate my glute. Lots to think about but it has made a huge difference in my walking, I used to post #'s in the 5-6k for steps and now I am posting regularly in the 15k a day. I would also suggest water walking or aqua aerobics both helped me when I was unable to walk a few yrs ago.
