Unexpected results of weight loss

The entire journey has been full of surprises lol. Here's a few...
1)once I got used to working out most days, I never knew how much I'd need it. I was able to get off an antidepressant bc i was working out my stress in the gym.
2)How much younger I'd look with less weight. I actually had someone ask me at the beginning of summer if I was out of school for the summer yet. Lol.
3)when I lost a lot of weight around my legs, walking felt weird for a few weeks lol.
4)That in my mind for a while, I still felt like the person with all the weight to lose.
5)just bc the scale hasn't moved much in a few weeks doesn't mean youre not losing inches!
6) That friends and family can get extremely jealous of your success. They are supposed to be the ones cheering you on.25 -

Really the main one is the brain! I still have no idea how much space I take up and I always bring the wrong clothes into the dressing room. I still look at myself in the mirror knowing I've lost 115 pounds but I still see a 320 pound girl. Come on brain, you're killin me!
Look up "cortical homunculus", not only because it's hilarious to say that even in your head, but it's a map that your brain makes of your body in order to position you in and move you through space. It takes time to update it, so that disconnect you feel is not imaginary! Well I mean it is imaginary but also real...ugh something something consciousness..
Ok I'm only @10 lb down but I've already gone shopping in my closet. Yesterday I dropped off some work pants at the cleaners that I haven't worn in @2 years. It's like winning free clothes!
thats facinating, Ive had that disconnect about gaining weight, I was always thin until I got sick and gained a bunch , and I always still saw myself as thin so didnt realise how much I realy gained until at some point I started noticing how heavy my thighs were. but I still have that thin youthful image in my mind Im trying to get back to what I was. its a shame I still have all these bad health issues cant exersize and am hungry 24/7 err life is so unfair.3 -
I never considered how much my ring size would change. I got sized this weekend and I went from an 8 to a 6.5! Another pleasant surprise-- I was able to try on the display rings!
yes, my engagement ring went from being quite tight around my ring finger, to being moved to my middle finger and now getting loose in that one. I still have 9kgs to lose and i'm praying my fingers will not get any thinner.3 -
I know this has been said a lot, but discovering bones I've never seen before! It's amazing yet weird and creepy to see I actually have bones! I keep getting my mum to touch them, and I. Can't stop touching them!11

The bone thing freaks. me. out. My ribcage is quite prominent now and my wife does this thing where she puts her hand on the base of it and I have developed this phobia that she's going to like.. pull it EUGHHH. I mean it's nice and stuff but EUGHHH11

Join the club. Bones are weird. And uncomfortable. I hate the way in which my knees clank together when in bed and cause bruises (I now have a body-length pillow to counteract this). I hate how uncomfortable my bed/sofa/chairs/car seat has become.
Oddest thing is though, I glanced at my ribcage whilst getting in the bath and saw what I initially thought were huge bruises running from front to back on each side. I was like "What? How did THAT happen?" A closer inspection revealed that the marks I thought I could see were actually SHADOWS, caused by my ribs sticking out . Yuck. Ugh. EUGHHH indeed. Gross.

LOL. What? Has she threatened to do that?

I've noticed that as I keep losing weight I seem to be sleeping so much better than I used to15

My mistake was to tell her that I was worried she would do that so it's become a 'thing' now where she makes a play to grab my ribcage and pull it OUT OF MY BODY.13 -

You and your wife are making me laugh out loud. My husband wanted to know what was so funny and I had to read the whole exchange to him.5 -

Haha yes to the weird shadows! I was getting dressed, looked in the mirror and thought I'd somehow managed to get paint or dirt on me.. Nope shadows from my ribcage. I like mine but they're not very prominent, depends on the lighting. I also discovered the top of my shoulders are very hard.

I've got those shadows on my face.2

As are the round bits on the clavicles. And the pelvis.

I can now feel my ribs....while doing frog kicks...5

The wife and I joined a gym and started doing Stronglift together M,W, F. Tue/thurs she does Yoga and I jog a few miles. When we started this, we lost all energy by the end of the day for any sort of bedroom fun. Nowadays, it seems like the exact opposite. It almost fuels it. Positive side effects of the gym I never thought of!29

My new "thinner" clothes are starting to be too big. I wore the skirt in my profile picture yesterday (snug at the time the picture was taken) and had to keep adjusting it because it was twisting.15

First time seeing a shadow on my neck over the weekend...WOW really? Also realize I have bony knees. I am only a little of hallway to my goal so can't wait to see what else is in store:)7

A few things I have noticed.
I now enjoy clothes shopping. All the cool looking shirts for bands, Star Wars, etc. that never were available to me when I was in full "bubba mode" fit me just fine now!
I can sleep on my right side. For several years, my right hip would hurt so bad if I laid on it for much more than about 10 minutes. I can now snuggle up to my wife and sleep the night away.
Going to a restaurant with booths is no longer uncomfortable or humiliating. I have quite a bit of space now where my belly is no longer smooshed into the table.
I'm much more sensitive to the cold now.15 -
I haven't gotten debilitating stomach pains in the middle of the night for some time now. It used to happen regularly. I still eat rich foods, but I guess I was just eating too much quantity for my system to handle. Scary.7

When you're closet shopping, sometimes (if you're really really lucky) you'll find an old pair of pants with money in the pockets, and you won't have to go to the ATM to pay the babysitter! WOO!36

The weirdest for me is the car seat. Having to move the car seat up because my rearend doesn't take up as much room as it used to. The other odd one is my complete shock when I sat in a chair with arms that I no longer touched with my thighs. I was so excited, I think I started giggling. You also never think in your weight loss projections how much weight you lose in your feet so you shoes start getting too big.
I can't stay in bed sleeping in for so long because my body starts to hurt so I end up getting up and working out and that helps.
I also had an experience where a guy came into my work looking for me. He kept saying he was looking for Tina and I kept saying I am Tina and he finally said in exasperation, "No I mean the big girl." I never did convince him that I was the same person.55 -

Having to weave through tables and chairs at a luncheon at church, and thinking you're not going to fit between chairs, but not wanting to call attention to yourself, you try to squeeze through, and to your amazement, you don't even touch the chairs!19

And having people not recognize you. Like a 20 minute conversation with a friend's husband, and until I said my son's name, he didn't recognize me. And a friend I hadn't seen in a couple years, came to a function I was at and as she as leaving she did a double take and was gobsmacked that it was me near the door. She said she had seen me there all morning but didn't know it was me!21

For me it's the general change in my clothing fit. I never expected to be okay with clothes touching let alone being tight against skin! Now I almost embrace the slim fit selections of clothing there is out there18

Being older (late 40s) and having 100+ pounds to lose, I was really worried about ending up with curtains of loose skin but it didn't happen yet (I'm 105 down with about 30lbs to my final goal).
I also expected my boobs to disappear (because that was always the first thing to go in the past) but although I'm smaller all over, my bra cup size is the same (yay). And talking of underwear, my knickers seem tiny - I'm always amazed that they fit!
The strangest phase of weightloss so far was the pea-sized bumps that I could feel rather than see on my thighs. They've mostly gone now but, yeah, that was weird.
What is disappointing is how much more attentive and friendly people are now. I know everyone says it's because we become more confident, etc. when we've lost weight but I really don't think that's why. In fact, I used to try much harder to be friendly before because I felt so overlooked. It was exhausting, whereas now...pfft.40 -
I just restarted MFP and have lost 5 pounds since, but in the months leading up to it, I lost 22 pounds low carbing. My husband told me he could get his arms all the way around me and close them, which he hadn't been able to do before. I'm very short and carry my weight around my waist and belly. Also on a date night, my favorite jeans were in the wash, so I went for a pair of my former 'can't breathe' jeans and hoped for the best. They were loose around the waist! Went to the movies in them with no discomfort.21
