Did you get rid of your bigger clothes?

Hi--I first posted this in the general weight loss section, but wanted to include it here, too.
I'm 43, female, and I've yo-yoed a few times over the years, going between 120 and 158 lbs. With my current weight loss (at 137 currently, down from 153), I'm feelintg fairly optimistic that I can reach my goal weight of 125 (range +/- a few lbs) and more importantly, maintain it using MFP combined with 16/8 IF. This weight loss effort just feels different, like I've finally figured it out!
However, I find myself having trouble getting rid of my bigger sized clothes that no longer fit me. I've always kept a range of sizes "just in case", and especially for those years when I was having babies with the weight gain and slow postpartum weight loss. But I'm finished having babies, and have a well-laid out plan for weight loss and maintainance. So should I go ahead and just get rid of the bigger clothes now? Or wait until I'm at my goal and see how maintainance goes for a while first? Will keeping them just be a crutch, "allowing" me to get lazy and gain it back?
I'm curious what others have done. Did you feel better tossing the big clothes? Or did you keep them "just in case"?

It took me a while and I still have a few things but the short answer is yes! I didn't want the option to go back. If the choice is buy (another) new wardrobe or get the eating under control I'll get the eating under control. I like removing the safety net.9

I threw them out. That said I put them away for a few months first before I could brng myself to moving them out of the house. Was harder than expected.5

Like you, I kept a range of sizes. This time ALL the weight has come off. and it just feels right this time after 30+ years of yo yo-ing. I have purged clothes twice now and have had no regrets about doing so. I'm a jeans & t shirts sort of gal so I don't get into fashion at all. I've been only buying a few things. I don't need or want closets full of clothes again. From here on out, if it doesn't fit, it's gone. Congrats on your weight loss, keep up the good work!4

I gave them away and yes, felt better getting rid of them. I'm almost at goal and don't want an easy option of going back.5

Got rid of them, charity shops or recycling.
My daughter took some of my T shirts to use as nightwear.
Don't make it easier or acceptable to regress would be my advice.

Once a month I get rid of a couple of items. My self view needs to progress with my weight loss...but it has not. I almost feel a sense of fear giving away the items because I still view myself as fitting in that stuff. So strange....4

I found it easy to throw away, or rather, donate, the trousers as I could no longer wear them. I've been less willing to throw away the over-sized shirts. When I buy a new shirt, I throw away 2 old shirts.8

After a lifetime of yo-yo dieting, and closet full of clothes in many sizes, I finally said goodbye to the bigger clothes. I filled 3 large garbage bags for the thrift store. It does feel different this time. And it feels good!

Interesting discussion. I guess I have been just the opposite, I have kept clothes that were to small in hopes of fitting into them sooner or later. (I too have kept a range of sizes.) Finally now is my later and find I have more clothes than before to pick from. I do now have lots of jeans, shirts and sweaters that I know will be too big this winter, so I guess it's time to make a trip to the Goodwill to get rid of those items. Great feeling!!5

I have donated almost all my bigger clothes, with the exception of some sweaters and tops that I can still wear - even though they are really big on me.
It's a little scary, but also pretty cool. I had kept a few "smaller" clothes over the years in hopes of fitting into them again... most of which I do now and a few that are my next "goal" pieces.
I go through my closet once a month and clear out things that are now too big. I have kept one pair of jeans from my largest size so I can really see how far I've come when I'm feeling down.4 -

It's a scary ride to Goodwill, but you will feel so relieved once you make the trip. I was also pleased to get back so much space in my closet and drawers.2

I get rid of mine as soon as they become too big.
It's like Cortez burning the ships...point of no return!
ETA- my friends with no weight problems say that they back off food as soon as clothes get a little tight. So this will be my plan in maintenance with no larger clothes to fall back on!8 -
I took in pieces I loved and donated the rest. Keeping them around "just in case" allows me to gain, but not having something larger to wear ensures I keep on track. I don't want to label my clothes as "skinny" or "fat", I just want to call them clothes.0

OP here--I was thinking about doing this! It's funny how reading about what others have done has helped me decide! I'm going to get rid of most of my big clothes, keeping one of the biggest pairs of jeans, and that's about it! I'm a "keeper" of things in general, trying to get better about decluttering. Although, I'm thankful now for the "skinny" clothes I kept!
It's a little unnerving to give away my "crutch" clothes, but I'm excited!

Yes, donated them. Some were never worn as I was dropping weight week to week where I couldn't wear them anymore. Additionally, it just takes up too much space. Felt like a cleanse, saying goodbye to faux amis.5

As soon as I started shrinking out of them they left my closet for good. Like others have said, there is no going back there for me. With the exception of an outfit I was in love with that I'm saving to use when I've reached my goal for a before and after picture. Instead I buy cute clothes to go into my shrink-me box I can look forward to wearing.5

IF is intermittent fasting. So for 16/8, a person will fast for 16 hours, and then has an 8 hour window to eat. I love IF. I find i'm not as hungry as when I was trying to fit all my meals throughout the whole day.

Considering the evil known as "chub rub" basically eliminated the pesky crotch out of most of my pants, yes. I did get rid of them. They have been mended over and over until they really can't be mended anymore. I figure if I keep them not only will I have these tattered clothes cluttering the closet, it wil make it just a little too easy to get fat all over again. So I say get rid of them.5

I have a closet full of clothes in sizes from 2 to 16. They are in spacebags, and I still have no room for anything else in that closet. I do want to get rid of those clothes once they are too big for me....but I do have that fear of "what if". So I don't know. Maybe I'll just keep up to size 8 or 10 for a while, and if I'm still at the weight I want to be, I'll toss them too.0

I hauled around, for many years, my smaller clothes and my bigger clothes. It made it so much less uncomfortable to regain weight. Never again. When the bin of "too big" is full, it gets donated.
"what if" is no longer an option. I am going to maintain, period. I don't care if that means logging and weighing my food for the rest of my life.10 -
I keep one size too big, but donate anything two sizes too big.2

My sister is losing weight as well and started out smaller than I, so her "in-grown" things come to me and mine go to Goodwill. I will NOT be needing them again.
I have my one biggest ever pair of jeans (size 26) as a reminder, and to one day take one of those pictures of myself in one leg of them9 -
Saving bigger clothes "just in case" would be setting myself up for defeat. I have no intention of backsliding and experiencing health problems again - these are positive changes I've made for the rest of my life. Keeping "big boy" clothes would be saying to myself: "well, you've failed at maintenance before, and you're going to do it again". I've gotten rid of my bigger clothes two or three times over the past couple of years, and I'm about to make another run to the charity drop box.9

I'm sorry, I meant to go back and answer this. But just what she said--I love it! It took me a while to find just the right IF method for me, but 16/8 is it!1 -
I donated items to thrift stores and bought items for in between sizes. Now I am at goal, I still shop at thrift stores!3

Most of my stuff is from the thrift store. I got rid of the largest sizes because I hated those clothes anyway. Now I am just keeping the things I really cherish and re-donating the rest. I found that the clothes I saved, for the smaller size, are not to my liking now anyway. Might as well let someone who need them use them. No reason to have clothes to wear if you get bigger...makes it to easy to go back. It is hard to let them go, but I think its part of the process. NOW, I only buy something if it fits fabulous now and makes me look and feel great.2

I started out with about 20 pairs of pants that were too small and am down to one. I have gone through my closet several times since I started this time in May and while it feels to early to tell if I am going to get to GW I have been getting rid of them. I am 48 pounds down and about 1/2 way to goal. So I have been giving clothes away and those family/friends can't use have been going to charity. Also have tossed out some that might someday fit but I just never felt good in. Or those what was I thinking buys. Closet is much more manageable when you don't have things that don't fit. Have bought just a few new things on Clearance or Thrift store finds to wear until they no longer fit because they are too big.3

While losing 75 lbs, I literally shopped in my closet until I reached goal weight, since I had stuff in all those sizes, anyway.
Then I donated everything that no longer fit, with the exception of one pair of sweatpants because Thanksgiving/Christmas dinners.3
