Bananas: Good or Bad?

People say that bananas are bad for you when losing weight is that true? I love having bananas as a snack.. I also add it to my smoothies
But was just wondering if thats true?
(And even if it is I wont stop having myself from having it once in a while) but yeah would love to know what you think.

If you're eating so many bananas that you're going over your calorie goal every day because of them, that's too many.
If you're eating so many bananas that you're depriving yourself of other micro/macronutrients, that's too many.
Otherwise you're fine.11 -
I think some people say bananas are bad because they have more calories than other fruits. But if you like it and it fits into your goals, keep eating it!5

I personally think they are more filling than most other fruits too - so I guess that evens out with higher calories.
I think bananas feature in these thread questions so often because they are common click bait for websites - 5 foods you must never eat!! featuring a banana in the picture.
Have never seen one featuring an apple or a strawberry
But anyway Anvilhead summed it up - unless you are eating so many that one of the above happens, they are fine.
and they dont have that many calories really - I eat one or two several days per week and I found them easy enough to fit into a losing allowance of 14601 -
Bananas are fine if they fit into your diet. You could eat two or three twinkles a day, so long as you don't go over your calories and get your other nutrients. If it fits into your daily allotment, no foods are really bad for you, per se.3

i read someplace that the more ripe (turning brown) they are the better for diets....something to do with digestibility and not binding you up0

Bananas have anywhere from 50 to 100 calories depending on what size they are. Lots of potassium too. I think they are wonderful with a tiny bit of Peanut Butter. Just slice them lengthwise and use a bout a tablespoon. Put the two halves back together again. No problem! Just don't eat more than one a day!0

Personally too high calorie, low volume, and not filling enough for me. Rather have two oreos. To each their own though.1

How does 1 stop at just 2 oreos? haha... u can blend a few frozen banana slices with dark chocolate protein powder and a bit of pb2--pretty filling and yummy!5 -

I have recently fallen in love with mixing up a banana with ~100g of cottage cheese, ~20g of plain yogurt and 2 TBS of chocolate PB2. It fulfills the sweet treats I've been craving like crazy while being a nice protein filled breakfast or lunch well under 400 calories.
So, clearly I think they're A-ok.3 -

I'd like to know why somebody shouldn't eat more than one banana per day also. I've never heard of such a thing outside of those bogus clickbait websites with ad headlines like "The 5 foods you should NEVER eat!!!!"5 -

I eat 2 bananas per day quite often - occasionally even 3. Some days I dont eat any.
Such a crazy habit doesnt seem to be doing me any harm
I eat several per week - cant see how it matter if 2 of them happen to be on same day and not on consecutive days.

You could literally replace "bananas" with any food item in this question and the answer will always be "no, unless you tend to overeat that item or your chosen diet strategy does not accommodate them".
Bananas (and any other food you can think of) are okay within a calorie controlled diet.
I like bananas. Sometimes I eat several a day other times I eat none. My weight loss has not suffered either way.4 -

FWIW I eat a banana every morning as that helps keep my legs from cramping. I lost weight doing that too. I just accounted for the calories in my meal planning.

Bananas are neutral. If you like them, they are fine (and have some micronutrients, of course); and if you don't like them there's no need to eat them.
I think it's more important to think through this claim that they are bad for you when losing weight. What does that mean to you? They have calories, but calories are only bad in excess. If you are buying into an idea that some foods stop weight loss independent of calories, how could that be? That's the kind of crazy idea that needs to be combated.1 -

Bananas are a great filling v calorie deal. I have learned to weigh what I'm eating though, apparently what I think is a medium banana and what the database thinks are 20-30 cals apart.1

Bananas have jack to do with weight loss or not weight loss...calories are what matter. As far as good or bad, matters of nutrition are hardly black and white...veggies and fruit have a lot of micro nutrients, but a diet consisting solely of veg and fruit wouldn't be healthy because it would be nutritionally lacking.
Bananas are a higher GI fruit that pack a good bit of fiber and potassium among other things...but a banana or no banana really has nothing to do with whether or not you will lose weight.1 -

A banana is approximately 120 calories. It has no sodium. It has carbs in abundance. The riper it is, the simpler are the sugars in it. Still, these are naturally occurring sugars and valuable to your body in your life. Certain mis-informed zealots denounce bananas because of the existence of sugar in it. While there is indeed sugar in it, it is naturally occurring sugar and valuable. If you are on a low-carb diet, you cannot have bananas. They just don't fit that limited cuisine.3
