Well done @Tania5078 (way to kick butt with the reverse planks) and @Spliner1969 (great job getting closer to your secondary goal)!! I'm still recovering from being sick, and then TOM hits - argh!...way far behind, but we'll see if I can actually get caught up. BTW, dolphin planks - 2 minutes are almost embarrassingly easy, 3 minutes are surprisingly brutal.

If you start a new thread @b3achy, I am in for December as usual. I am honestly still confused about 'dolphin' planks lol, do you mean straight arm or fore arm planks? Or do you mean fore arm planks with a raised core? I googled it and came up with several different versions all called 'dolphin' planks. What I'm doing is a forearm plank, but I see I may be calling that wrong because a standard plank looks like it is with straight arms. Doesn't really matter, it's all good. Congrats to everyone, don't give up if you didn't make it, just keep on joining the next challenge!1

Yea, @Spliner1969 I need to open a new thread for December. I need to redeem myself for my lack luster November. Still going to try to get some minutes in this evening, but need to get some work done first. I would have done it last night, but I left my desk with a migraine and didn't log in any of my challenge threads. But it being end of the month, I need to get 'er done!
So, my dolphin planks have been straight arm, but I see them typically show from the fore arm position (when I did them from the forearm though, the movement caused me to rub my elbows pretty raw because of the rug in my living room, so I decided to go to a straight arm). They are a dynamic movement plank, not a static hold plank. So, I start in a standard plank hold, then bend in the middle and raise my butt, and then drop back to a standard plank hold. How fast/slow I do the movement depends and it also depends on how long I hold each position. I've been playing around with timing. So, at first I was doing them repetitively/continuously...not holding either the upper or lower hold for very long. Some of my last sets, I held in the plank position hold for about 20 sec and then popped up to butt in the air position for about 10 sec and alternated. That seemed to be a bit tougher on my core. The last set of planks I did, I was sore for a couple of days.
You know I have no idea which is a standard plank and which is the 'modified' plank these days either. I've seen both the straight arm and the forearms planks called the standard plank and the other referenced as the modified. For me, when I was in the Army, the straight arm plank was just called the "Front Leaning Rest Position"...no such thing as planks back in those days 30 or so years ago.
The first time I ever heard of planking it was the crazy fad where people were laying down 'stiff as a board' on weird things and taking pictures of it to post online.
And now it's an exercise for your core...go figure. How times change. I think anything that is engaging the core muscles in a plank like fashion is good enough for us.0 -
