This one has always been especially haunting and unforgettable for me. I saw it years ago and it's probably the first thing that goes through my mind...

Sebastiao Salgado's photography is beautiful and moving. I first heard about him after a newspaper published some of his images in an editorial, highlighting the irony about making such beautiful images of abject suffering.

I saw them and was mesmerized.

These are very low tech images, they're simple, and they're powerful. They pull me into another world, one I'm very lucky to have been born out of. When I look at many of these, I'm awed at the broad range of what people call life.

Salgado's photos are very zone system, like Ansel Adams.
