Salad for Christmas dinner

I tend to lack fat in my diet. And been stupidly low on calories since my new job has been kicking my *kitten*, I burn between 2500-4000 on long shifts and eat maybe 1600 if I try hard to stuff self before passing out. So Christmas dinner should help refeed yum. Screw salad. Unless its cesar with Renée's (So doesnt count as healthy at that point) ;D2

Me! Lol, Christmas Eve dinner only gave me a 2lb/1kg gain this morning. Hmm, gotta top that today. And I will, as I already ate a month's worth of carbs for breakfast . I'm a low carber, so there's gonna be big water gains.2 -

Anyone keeping it healthy and having grilled chicken or a salad for Christmas dinner? Why or why not?
We will have a salad with dinner, yes. No grilled chicken, as we are having prime rib. We will also have other vegetables and many other foods.
Why on earth would you define "keeping it healthy" so narrowly (even apart from the question about whether you will eat differently/more indulgently as part of a holiday celebration)? If I only ate grilled chicken and salad I'd be bored and have a less healthy way of eating than I do, IMO.
I also don't think it's a healthy approach to think holiday or other feasting is to be avoided. So I don't. Also, I value traditions, including those built around food. IMO, having special meals and celebrations where good food is really appreciated isn't at all the reason the US is fat. (These are some of my why nots.)
Back to Christmas stuff now!7 -
Yes, I am having/taking/preparing a salad buffet for Christmas dinner, plus what ever else will be served at the table. Festivity is what we make of the day, not what we serve or eat.1

I did for the amusement factor. Up nearly a kilo. Mostly food (aka booze) and water weight no doubt, and the calorie burn from today's hike ought to cancel out the rest2 -
I was at a work dinner last night and the food was awful so I had 4 plates of Caesar Salad which was fantastic with whipped cream and fresh fruit for dessert. Enjoyed a few glasses of sparkling wine too. But I would have had a more traditional feast if 1) I wasn't away for work, 2) The food served was something more my liking.0

Vegan dinner and not a salad in sight:). Three bean vegan chili and home made bread. Managed to go just shy over my calorie goal, rum happens.3

Lunch was huge. Dinner is not in need of happening today.2

We had salad.... 4 of them.
- quinoa, pomegranate, cucumber, mint, feta, slivered almonds.
- cos, mango, red onion, avo, macadamias, coriander
- rocket, fennel, zucchini, celery, Parmesan, pine nuts, parsley
- butter lettuce, roast sweet potato, honeyed pecan, bacon, chives
Served alongside stuffed roast turkey breast roll and ham...
The salads were delicious. I like salad - never considered whether it was unhealthy or not, it's just food that tastes good.3 -
I weight daily. I was 151 Christmas Eve morning. After our Christmas Eve dinner (seafood feast) I somehow lost and was 149 Christmas morning. I'll update tomorrow morning, but I'm not expecting much gain (we had Christmas dinner at my MIL's house - and, yes, I had some salad, along with ham and other veggies). Now the morning of the 27th? Yeah, I expect a decent gain... We're having our at home feast tomorrow.1

Not healthy but within my calorie goal2

Roast turkey is just as healthy as grilled chicken. Roasted vegetables are just as healthy as salad. And stuffing is just plain yummy.6
-
I had turkey and salad for dinner (low carber visiting a high carb house realities)- didn't even die, true story2
-
I ate all the foods, but came home with cookies. I will have to freeze them and work through them slowly. I just may jump on the scale in the morning.0

I had lots of salad - not because of weight issues but because Australia: Xmas is in middle of summer and we always have cold Xmas meal.
Mind you, not all the salads were low calories ( I do love potato salad) and I had plenty of cold meat and seafood too. Oh and Xmas pudding and chocolate and alcoholic beverages.........4 -
We had salad for dinner on Christmas, because the actual celebratory meal was brunch.0

Up 3 lbs. Not too bad!2
-
No, no,no,no. It's one day.0

So I ended up having a salad after all...just a side salad, and only lettuce, cheese, and dressing, but it appeared and disappeared before all the food.0
-
depends on how loosely you use the term salad.
like... bean salad? pasta salad? fruit salad? egg salad?

Up to 138.6lbs this morning. My average weight prior was holding steady in the 132-ish range. No sweat. Clearly, I over indulged, as I had planned, but due to experience (and science), we know feasting weight gains are not permanent fat gains (no way I could physically consume nearly 25,000 calories in a couple days, lol. I'd probably die ).
Back to regular way of eating. Weight will regulate back to normal in a few days. Or weeks. I may have outdone myself and put on an actual pound or so of fat. Oh well. No gulit or shame.0 -
Yep I had a healthy pineapple & brown sugar glazed ham, mashed potatoes, some amazing bread (rolls), stuffing with ground beef, cranberries, oh yea and salad....on the side lol. Then for dessert, I had candied yams, jello with cool whip and vanilla wafers in the mix, sweet rice, and my homemade fudge. One with walnuts and the other was a new recipe (Reese's peanut butter fudge)
Which reminds me, it's almost lunch time and time for round two of all the delicious leftovers.0 -
We had salad...and lasagna, and bread, and green beans, and lots and lots of cookies.0
-
I wish...
Instead I had pretty much nothing since I got a stomach bug Friday night and was sick into Saturday morning. Still don't have much of an appetite back today so Christmas Eve and Day were no fun food wise. *sigh*0 -
Cookie salad? :P3
-
I kept it healthy and didn't eat a salad. Ate a pit roasted wild pig with carrots, potatoes, and rolls.3
-
Christmas Eve dinner was Chicken Marbella (chicken on the bone cooked with garlic, herbs, olives, dried fruit, and white wine), rice pilaf, and broccoli rabe. Christmas dinner was Roast sirloin, baked potato, yorkshire puddings, and green beans. No salad anywhere, both meals had lots of protein, good carbs, fiber and vitamins. Winning!3
-
Well, I for one had salad for Christmas dinner...and it came before the lasagna, which was followed by cheesecake.3
