no hes not doing good. hes undereating severely. he is in dangerous territory with his health. since he didnt state he was under the care of a dr or not, 900 is not enough calories a day for most active CHILDREN.3 -

Having lean muscle mass doesn't mean you look like a body builder. Muscles help give our body a pleasing "toned" look. Virtually nobody wants to increase the amount of fat they have relative to muscle but that is what will happen if you try to lose weight too quickly -- your body will burn more muscle relative to fat. Many people wind up seriously unhappy with their smaller body when their percentage of body fat is higher. It's a lot harder to rebuild muscle than it is to take simple steps to preserve the muscle you have. Why not do that?1 -

A male eating 900 calories isn't "doing good"...that is severely under eating for an adult male. Part of proper nutrition is getting in enough calories, not just nutrition. Calories (energy) is kind of important.
Have fun OP...you may feel fine now...you won't soon enough if in fact you are undereating that severely...which I also kind of doubt.1 -

Don't worry, because you'll never "accidentally" end up looking like the second pic. Getting to that level requires years of structured, focused training (and having the genetics to look like that in the first place).
What you're doing is going to result in being skinny, saggy, lethargic and sick instead.3 -
OP, you need to eat more for the sake of your lean mass, health and life.lordgod1488 wrote: »sounds like ur doing goood. wish ihad that discipline
You can't be serious...a man eating 800 calories is good now? Toddlers eat more. You need to stop.Prince_of_Mind wrote: »There goes your lean muscle mass...

And Christopher Mintz plays soccer and basketball...he's also a drummer. He's not inactive or unfit, he has quite a lean muscular build...and no doubt eats more than you for that body. Just sayin'....plus McLovin'. No one can be McLovin.2 -
2 pounds a week is a healthy amount for someone who has 75+ pounds to lose. You're only about 15 pounds from the top of a healthy BMI, so that rate is too aggressive.
Just because you feel great doesn't mean you aren't damaging your body. At that low of an intake you're risking a lot of muscle loss, as well as a host of other health issues. Eat a MINIMUM of 1500 calories, if not the goal MFP gives you for .5-1 pound a week.
THIS You may disrupt your body by eating on 900 calories per day. It's definitely not maintainable or healthy weight loss.1 -

Your heart is lean muscle mass, too. If you look at my pic you will see that I am what many would say is a "skinny" type person, but I do what I can to preserve my lean muscle. You don't have to be a bulky, super-muscled person to want to maintain your lean mass. Have you discussed your health goals with a doctor?1 -

I don't think I will change my diet right now but I will keep an eye out for the problems that have been mentioned in the thread that could happen, and if I start to notice any unwanted effects I will reevaluate what I am eating.
I know its not the answer people want to hear but I have been given something to think about so you could say that I am in a better position now for starting this thread0 -

Those signs will be telling you that the damage is done. But I am glad that you are thinking about it. Hopefully as the day passes, or in the next day or two you will start to think about what your goals are and how you can reach them. There is something to be said for health being considered along with weight loss. It's not all about aesthetics. Otherwise, you are just aiming to be a good looking corpse.1 -
I have been wondering the same thing, I am a 5'6" 152lb female, some days I eat 800 to 900 cals and other days I meet my 1200cal goal. I never feel hungry, stomach never growls when under my calorie goal. I just feel like if I'm not hungry, I'm not going to eat (Eating when not hungry is how I gained weight in the first place)0

Read my first reply, and then add in that undereating can mess with hormones that can interrupt your menstrual cycle4 -

The only reason why others have been saying eat more is because they care about you and your health. Really. We care a great deal. We want you to be happy and healthy. We want you to be able to achieve your goals and live to make them.
Do you care about your heart at all?TavistockToad wrote: »Prince_of_Mind wrote: »Therealobi1 wrote: »Prince_of_Mind wrote: »Therealobi1 wrote: »Prince_of_Mind wrote: »There goes your lean muscle mass...

This. So much this. Why ask if it is too little and then disagree with those who say yes? Please stop harming your body.2 -

Ok so what about up upping your intake, and research a personal trainer who can work on how you want to look. you don't have to do heavy weights if you don't want to.
I like this idea better1 -
go visit a nursing home where people have muscle atrophy caused from not using their muscle or from muscle loss and see what you could eventually do to your body not keeping lean muscle mass or taking care of it(even at a younger age this can happen).1

Very helpful input! I guess I wasn't super clear in my first post, for example maybe like 1 or 2 days I would be under, some days I am right on track and some days I go over by a hundred or two. Would this even out or is 1 or 2 days a week under still be doing long term damage in your opinion?0
