My vote is "kick starting your metabolism".9

Good carbs and bad carbs
A calorie vs a calorie is not equal
You can't lose weight without exercising
7 -
you need to eat "clean" to lose weight and that women should lift light weights at high reps to avoid becoming bulky. those are my 2 that kill me every time. but they're all garbage.

-Carbs are bad
-You must eat breakfast/small meals
-Sugar is the devil
-You must eat a certain way or you won't lose weight/calories don't matter
-You have to detox
-Use this wrap/waist trainer/laxative disguised as a miracle pill to lose 5 lbs instantly and shape your figure
-Every MLM scheme
-Women shouldn't lift weights
Weirdly enough, the starvation mode one doesn't bother me so much. It's stupid, but IMO it's not as damaging or derailing as those others are. My biggest pet peeve though? All this nonsense with diet soda and cancer and insulin and toxins. IDK why, but it drives me up the wall.12 -
Metabolism and digestion are the same thing3

True it's not as damaging, but I think it bothers me so much simply because it is so stupid. Especially when it's claimed you can actually gain weight if you don't eat enough.8 -
The ideal diet consists of nothing but protein and green veggies.11

That claim gives me great practice at rolling my eyes. Eyeball muscles need a workout too!4 -
My personal all time favorite
"Well I'm happy CICO works for you, but it doesn't for me" - signed Every Special Snowflake.75 -
The Master Cleanse, where apparently all you drink for 10+ days is acetic acid, maple syrup and cayenne pepper, then take a laxative to blow it all out your kitten. I've heard a lot of stupid ideas, but this takes the cake for pure, sheer idiocy. I have to admit to a certain amount of schadenfreude over the sufferings of certain Master Cleansers as they scour their bowels. Does that make me a bad person?24

Starvation mode definitely. But also that being Vegan and Organic will help you lose and stay skinny. (To clarify, I am not talking about those who chose to do this for personal reasons... I mean the ones that think doing it and still not watching intake will suddenly be a size 4)5

Alkaline diet! Changing your pH level will help you lose weight, cure cancer, etc. Well if you consider death a cure for cancer15

The clean eating thing. I think it's good for you to eat whole foods, not so much processed stuff, but if you eat too much of anything you will put on weight; and you can't clean your insides, that's silly. It makes me think they are eating soap.9

I reported a case like this to the FDA this week - multiple deaths related to over-ingestion of vinegar. The extent of damage done to the GI was disturbing.6 -

Seriously!!? I know from sorting through some of the lit that it can affect your teeth and wreak some other havoc, but I didn't realize people were dying from it. There used to have some crazy ACV threads going about a year ago, back before 'Nam, but I don't think there's been a good one recently. There were worms coming out of people's noses and EVERYTHING. Good times.3 -
Clean eating and detoxing...3

Clean eating, don't eat anything white, no sugars but fruit is okay, etc. is my least favorite. But mostly because I watch my little sister bounce from diet plan to diet plan looking for "the one" only to give up after a week because someone tells her on some message board or facebook group that her food choices aren't good enough and she'll never lose weight that way. And she believes it. Every time.
That and the cabbage soup diet. You'd hate that silly plan too after sitting beside a coworker who periodically goes on that diet and gets crankier and crankier for four or five days before giving up and starting the cycle all over again.10 -
Carb and sugar addictions are real, trigger foods are real, eating disorders are real. Dietary religions are not.3

Is this because of the stupid Trudeau guy and his books?0 -
Avocare. I've seen plenty of threads in the past few days. Have no idea what it is but am thinking it is this year's Shakeology.
Edit: Or is it spelled Advocare?6 -
Truth!5 -
The absolute worst myth of weight loss is that it requires a very low calorie diet and a large account of time spent in a gym to control your weight. This persistent myth, which systems from the belief that people must be miserable to be healthy, or must suffer for being overweight, is the root of willingness to grasp onto every weight loss fad, scheme, and scam. It drives people into eating disorders and self - loathing actions. It demoralized people from even starting to attempt to attain a healthy body or lifestyle, and leads to people giving up. It sets people up for repeated weight loss and gain cycles.
Nothing is more insidiously dangerous because this concept brews failure and destruction.33 -
Another vote for starvation mode. And all types of cleanses and detoxes.
And "turning fat into muscle."8 -
Eat Less Move More - that's all it takes. hmph. Right.
Fat is bad. Saturated fat is worse.3 -

That it's only helpful to exercise if you are in the "fat-burning zone."7
