    I would say it's fairly rewarding in the sense that you'll always have job security. I worked for Boys Town before corrections and got thick skin there, but you are correct about not knowing what you'll get.

    I worked prn at a prison several years ago. It was a very educational experience. Toilet booze was the most eye opening though.

    The inmates fermented Metamucil in a toilet bowl. They literally made alcohol. They put it in soda bottles and drank/bartered with it. The guards found it and brought it to the infirmary. It smelled just like alcohol. These inmates could have been chemists if they had of focused their talents elsewhere.

    I worked for my university's Geology department for several months after I graduated, digitizing research data. It was so boring I had to leave before I went nuts. I wasn't doing any of the fun stuff, though - like traversing the wilderness, collecting data, analyzing it. Other people were doing that. I was just translating other peoples' data into maps. I suppose it would have been more meaningful if I was working on my own projects. That was ages ago, so I bet the technology is more fun to work with now. Glad you're enjoying it! B)

    My former profession gave me a decent income and a lot of free time, but it came with a crap ton of responsibility and stress. When my health began to suffer, I sent that career to the curb. They couldn't pay me enough to go back. I made some wise investments along the way, so I was able to retire young with a modest, but secure income. I'm a cheapskate by nature, so I don't mind living frugally. My time is my own and I do what I want now. Not sure if I'll ever go back to the rat race and try something new, or if I even want to at this point... B)

    I have a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education. I have been a classroom teacher for 24 years. For most of my career, I loved my job. Now, it's just a job. I have six more years until retirement, so switching careers is not an option. I think I would feel this way after doing any job for 24 years, though. I still love the kids, just tired of everything else that comes along with the profession.

    Accountant...I neither love it, nor do I hate it...it pays the bills and affords me a pretty nice life but it's not what I'd be doing if I didn't have to worry about money.

    Me, my official title is Economic Self Sufficiency Specialist but that doesnt really tell you what I do unless you google it. Soooo... basically I do case work for Food stamps, medicaid and welfare. I process their cases according to policy to see if and what they qualify for and then approve or deny it. I dont love it but I dont hate it either. Its work and I have done alot of things that were worse. I am less than 6 months away from being able to work at home and I will be sooo glad when that time comes!

    I LOVE my career! I am a caretaker, and have formed a lot of beautiful bonds with all the people there. Unfortunately it is a minimum wage job, and while the minimum wage for my job is up, there is a bill threatening to knock the minimum wage for a lot of jobs around here right back down if it goes through. :\

    It takes awhile to build an audience and start rolling in the dough. Amry King will tell you that. He posted once on how he made it and he said those looking to make it big over night are delusional. It took him years of hard work and dedication and lots of fails before he found what caught others attention. He had to work a real job while figuring all this out on his own.

    I am an administrative secretary for a Deputy Warden at a prison. I love my job even though it can be a bit stressful :smiley:

    I'm a vaccine preventable disease epidemiologist for the state and I do love my job. I went to grad school just to be an epidemiologist and I don't regret it one bit!

    I have a BS in industrial management. I have spent my entire career in IT, first as a developer, then a network engineer, and more than half of my career in IT security. I have a lot of certifications. It has been good to me. Would I do it again? meh....

    Civil Engineer.....

    I love it... I love it because:
    1. I get to solve challenging stuff
    2. I get to see my stuff get built
    3. I get to fly around the world to do stuff
    4. I get paid oodles to do 1,2 and 3

    I love what I do, but I hate the *kitten* that goes on in my office. I have my bachelors in software engineering, associates in network engineering. I work for the Marine Corps, doing IT work for the organization that runs their programs, recreation, clubs, lodging, and stores. I like knowing what I do everyday is making the lives of our Marines and their families just a little easier.

    I practiced law for awhile but became an admin law judge when I started having kids (more time to raise them). Quit for several years (worth it because none of my kids have been incarcerated) and now I'm a part time hearing officer. I loooove my job and the people I work with. Luckily, hubster makes good money.

    Well I am retired now. But I was 20yrs with the US Air Force. Mostly space program stuff...like Cheyenne Mtn (bet you'd like to know if there is a stargate in there) doing space surveillance and nuclear detection, space shuttle payloads, developmental systems for suborbital rockets, R&D satellites, a bit of a detour overseas supporting the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, then back to space launches at Cape Canaveral. Really loved every second of it.

    I'll jump on the band wagon. Ironically, a number of middle age (I'm assuming) Finance professionals that are overweight and have too much time to spend on MFP going through the Chit Chats. NOTE: If you want to make decent money, hate your job and have time to surf the interweb, Accounting is your calling!

    Prison is a growth industry in this country. Not surprising to see lots of employment in the field.

    I work firm an IT firm. Servers, networks, PCs, etc. I do love what I do. You never know what you'll work on from day to day sometimes. I get to meet new people as well as build relationships with the familiar clients. I don't really dislike anyone I work with or for. It's nice.

    Checked your profile and I am further downstream than you. Looking all the way back I had a professor warn me about the sedentary lifestyle. Just as basic finances should be taught, a better nutrition/health curriculum should be inlcuded in highschool. I played plenty of sports as a youth but none of the kind that you can continue to play thorughout your lifetime. And the money can be exceptional in finance if you are with the right firm.

    About a year ago I was promoted to new career. I make a great wage and have a giant office with massive windows in the heart of downtown. I believe in my company's mission and have a decent boss. But...the work. Basically I respond to emails with the same cut-and-paste message day in and day out. I am bored and under-stimulated to say the least.
