Skinny vs fit

Is fit really the new skinny? Everyone is beautiful in their own way but I just am curious as to what's more attractive these days

Both can be equally unhealthy physically and mentally. Neither is "more attractive" since that's subjective.10

I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
But I also think that yes fit bodies are currently trending as more attractive than they used to be. Women with muscles used to be considered unattractive or masculine. So this particular trend is not necessarily a bad thing if it means more women are becoming fitter and healthier. Sadly the darker side to this is could be steroid abuse and lots of surgery/implants to get the look without the work.
Personally I think the fit body is really attractive, I like to see some muscle on a woman and even at my age am aiming to achieve a bit of that look if I can.
Body "fashion" changes however, you only have to look back over the centuries to see that superficial attractiveness is often dictated by the fashion of the time. For example corsets plus bustle = tiny waist. Or women binding their chests to match the Flapper fashion of flat chests. Or even men wearing codpieces to exaggerate their "package"
But real natural beauty is so very different and diverse it is impossible to point to one "look" as being attractive to everyone. Each country and culture has their own idea of what is attractive. But also these days with all the incredible mix of genes in the new generations beauty is changing and developing in many wondrous ways.
The world is filled with beautiful people

I'm not picky. I don't limit myself to a person's looks.8

Attractive is being confident in yourself.12

I've never found skinny (or thin) to be attractive or desirable, either for me or for others.
To me both skinny and thin suggest underweight, under-strength and sub-optimal health.
Fit I do see as a good aspiration and also an attractive look (although fitness encompasses many diverse physiques).11 -

Runway models used to define what sexy was. Not anymore. Petite and fit girls who show off their booty and boobies are the new sexy7

Fit does seem to be the new skinny but I doubt skinny will go out of style anytime soon.3

From past experience, fit is better than skinny. I lost all my baby weight second time around by dieting only but my body was soft and untoned. After my third baby I lost the weight by exercsing and eating clean. My body was the same weight but I looked stronger, toned and I was fit as a fiddle, that made me feel GREAT. I think exercise and good nutrition are the key to a healthy and strong body.2

"Skinny" makes me think of someone with little muscle or fat...basically skin and bone...underweight...I've never thought that look to be particularly attractive. I've always thought fit and athletic was sexy...I don't think it's anything new.
I think every girl or woman I've ever dated has been an athlete on some level.4 -
They both look good. I think anyone who looks very healthy is attractive. If you are skinny but look malnourished it is gross. If you are muscular but look like you are hopped up on steroids it is off putting. Just look healthy and you look good.4

"Fit" is pretty subjective. For some, fitness might be "goes to the gym occasionally and body fat is in a healthy range."
Fitness goals for me are strength and muscle building, getting my body fat down to a healthy range - but also to show off the muscle underneath. That tends to be an unpopular look for women though.
(I'm fully prepared to get lot of comments about steroids or that I "look like a man" once I'm closer to my goal physique. But oh well. I guess I like that look.)5 -
When I think of someone being "fit" - this goes beyond the physical and would apply to someone who truly owns it and has their stuff together - mentally and physically. This shines through in true confidence - a confidence that inspires others and helps them to achieve.4

How are we defining "fit?"2
-
Thick fit ...is what I'm aiming for like that "plus size" sports illustrated girl5
-
My grandma used to brag that she weighed 86lbs after having a baby. I'm pretty sure she had an undiagnosed eating disorder (not only based on her weight, but other behaviors too).
I think the huge emphasis on "skinny" is an older generation thing. I think that people nowadays recognize that overall health is more important than thinness; and "skinny" doesn't necessarily equate healthy. There is also more acceptance of diversity in general.2 -

More attractive to whom? Attractive is such a personal thing.
I think both skinny (runway model type) and low BF w muscle (fitness instructor type) are equally pushed as attractive on magazine covers for women. But personally, be it male or female, I am more attracted to those that have more fat on them than what I see in the media as ideal.0 -

I would define it as someone who looks the part because they live the part. Granted, there are people who are over fat, but still physically fit.
I've always been attracted to athletic ladies...most of my girlfriends have tended to be either soccer players or track and field sprinters.
This is what I lean towards...
And the swagger goes a long way too...have to have that confidence.
My wife played soccer and was a collegiate rugby player which I think is pretty hot...
But then again, everyone's tastes are different...my best friend likes his women very slight and tiny...I used to think I was going to break his ex wife in half just giving her a hello hug...2 -
Agree with so many people, confidence is the new sexy.2

Give me curvy anytime7

It's funny that fit is trending again and a lot of younger people think it's a brand new thing. It kicked off in the 80s and was really big in the 90s.
But then it went too far and went to the heroin junkie look..ripped but thin...then gave up any concept of muscle and went to stick thin skinny complete with jutting ribs and knobby elbows. Recently we've added plus size. Now more and more people are noticing that the "diversity" beauty campaigns have skinny girls and big girls, but no in between fit girls. So the in between fit look is coming back. But anyway, insofar as attractiveness it's not skinny vs fit, or confidence, but rather healthiness. I've seen fit people that were unhealthy looking...steroids...tanned within an inch of skin cancer..etc...not my cup of tea. Then I've seen really unhealthy people that act like Gods gift to whoever...still not attractive no matter how confident. I am attracted to people who are simply healthy looking....they don't need to be skinny or super fit.3 -

Nah...like I said in my post, my best friend likes his women rail thin...no curves, no muscles, etc. Michelle here would be too "big" for his tastes...clavicles aren't sticking out.0 -
I think attractiveness is personal.
These days I appreciate people more who do not all look alike... people who look like the best healthy version of themselves. I am bored by people who look like the flavor of the day celebrity or model.
I think I focus more on faces, personality, happiness and confidence at this point in life. Those things make people more attractive to me than their age, height, weight, exact body proportions.
A genuine big warm smile is the most attractive feature I think.4 -

Well, that's what they say ... But if you look at most of the marketing/media around it, it's more like "skinny + toned is the new skinny" ... So it's not enough to be slim any more; you must also squat dat booty. (Just check out the popular Instagram fitness pages ...)
Any Kinesiology student will tell you fitness is different than fatness. It's too bad more of the popular media doesn't show it.

No, skinny is the new skinny. Cultural obsession with thinness, especially with the commodity of eating disorders, will never go out of style or "get replaced."
I have a disordered mentality and would gladly take an unhealthy level of thinness over peak fitness, even though I know rationally that the latter is likely healthier (not to say that there's no such thing as an unhealthy level of fitness obsession), but right now I'm in a situation where the former is not an option. I largely feel the way I feel because thinness is so glorified in such a strange, ingratiated, illogical way.
Like sometimes I swear people make out unhealthy thinness to somehow be more admirable than being fit.3 -
I prefer skinny, with a low bodyfat %. Always more attractive in my book.1
