Well today I ran my longest run at 13 km. I am running my first 10 km race on March 26 and then my first HM on May 7th! My goal for the HM is to not finish last!!!

I was a big boy today and Emailed the guy who made my plan about modifications IF/when I get healthy enough to run again. I did this simply to get it off my mind, since I knew it would bug me. Now I can relax and use the rest I'm getting to think about other things, like Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy.8

New to the group and still beginner in running. I liked the idea of the group and excited to join . My goal is to run a total of 80 Km by end of Match starting from today and I will update you guys with my progress here.
Stay motivated and wish you all injury-free runs.0 -

Trying to catch up on the thread.
Thanks for the orthotic recommendations @ritzvin and @lporter229 . I'll keep those in mind if I decide to try something.
@lporter229 Sorry to hear about your hamstring but glad the PT thinks you should be able to get back on par for Boston training soon. Hope your issue resolves quickly!
@MNLittleFinn Not the best news regarding your knee but glad to hear that it's not worse. I know that time off of running is hard, but take it easy and let your body heal up so that you can be injury free when you get back to marathon training.
@shanaber Beautiful pic of the mountains! And the vulture...cool but creepy!
@dkabambe Exciting about your first race...and a HM at that!
@BeeerRunner Looks like you're getting some great trail running in. I had to lol at the "glass" crack hill. I had considered the Chicago Spring Half Marathon too, but I'm already going to be in Chicago once this month and again two weeks before that race, so decided to try to find a closer half marathon.JessicaMcB wrote: »If anyone has any great shoe recommendations for overpronation I am ready to absorb all your shoe feelings3 -

@OSUbuckeye906
That would have been great if you were doing the Spring Half Marathon in Chicago too! A mini MFP MRC meet up!! Lol!0 -
_nikkiwolf_ wrote: »Today the weather messed with my long run plans I've done longer runs in heavy rain, but I drow the line at serious storms with lightning and/or hale. After a few hours of pacing in my apartment, I decided to run on the treadmill in the gym instead - after all, this is a cutback week, so the plan was only 19km. I thought that would be doable...
Well, it wasn't, not for me. I'd never done more than 30min on a treadmill before, and maybe 10 treadmill runs in total over the past five years. I couldn't really listen to my audiobook, since the gym is too noisy and I don't like cranking the headphone volume up too much. The first 4km I kept busy playing with the speed, then I started changing the elevation back and forth between 0-5%, but there's a limit to how long that stays interesting, and the beep the machine made whenever I pressed a button to change things started to get on my nerves.
In the end, I made it to 14.65km. I know "running is 90% mental" and all that, but I just couldn't stand it any longer. 102 minutes running in place! I gave up, drove home, and three hours later, when the storm had died down to regular wind and rain, ran another 5.6km to make up for the missing distance.
I know that there are people who run entire marathons inside. I have no idea how anyone can stand that kind of horror!
@_nikkiwolf_ Still totally in awe. I've tried music, audio books, TV, movies but still can't get past 30mins on the treadmill, so 102mins is unthinkable to me. I attempted to do 45 minutes last week - could only manage 6mins before realising the storm was preferable and going out. Got some funny looks from others at the gym!2 -
06/03 - 6.2 mile run, followed up with Interval & Chest ... might have been a bit OTT to extend my goal with 50 miles ... oh well, long month

mentally, nothing could break me, I really hope that this is not going to change, time passed so quickly and I didn't feel any fatigue
leg bothered me just twice, after 20k and 25k. I hoped it was 100% but i know i must be patient.
overall, a good 30k, now 3 weeks to marathon.
50k flat cycling tomorrow, sort of recovery, last week I felt very good after a 27k run
anyone who sings REALLY LOUD while running? is that rally bad? obviously not in a crowded place. curious because I love to let myself go for example whn on an open field but I also don't want to look psycosocial and get arrested, especially here where everyone stares at runners like they are aliens
@patrikc333 I just love this post.2 -

Thinking about doing cross tomorrow. My stupid left foot is giving me trouble (it's my shoes, they are beyond spent- can't figure out what shoes to replace them with though so this problem continues -_- )
@dpwellman I am fairly certain I've effed up (idk how, I'm not booking into my ortho over this lol) the bone in the top of my left foot, about two inches up on the tendon near my big toe. If I put any pressure on the foot it's fine but when the tension is released there is sharp pain and the area is visibly raised through my socks. My own damn fault since I've run these shoes so long I've worn holes on the insides of them and taken 100% of the tread off them.
If anyone has any great shoe recommendations for overpronation I am ready to absorb all your shoe feelings
@JessicaMcB Both my podiatrist and my physiotherapist recommended the following for overpronation:
Brooks Adrenaline
Brooks Ravenna
Asics Kayano
Asics GT 2000
I've tried both the Asics, and am now on my third pair of Kayanos.3 -
Hi all:

I got along with Kayano21 very well, but with the 22 & 23 I suffered from heel pain. I have now switched to the Saucony Guide and Mizonu Wave, and the first experience is very favorable, with Saucony being the slight favorite2 -

I am a moderate overpronator
tried different make, asics, brooks, new balance, saucony, nike, ua, mizuno
my top 3 is
3. ua gemini 2
2. brooks ravenna (done more than 1000 miles, still good)
1. saucony guide
if anyone wants a pair of nb 1260 with only 400km ... absolutely *kitten* for me
was also disappointed by nike lunarglide
just ordered new guide 10, i'll use them for my marathon, i should have them on friday, my guide 9 have holes on toes, but i absolutely hate hate hate the nb i've got and i'd prefer to run on the palms of my hands. really good. but obviously get your run style tested and try what's best for you
after my 30k run yesterday my legs were really fresh, temptation was to ride uphill but i must be a good boy so as planned i did a relaxed flat 50k road bike, bit boring but now, when things are improving, is the time to be patient - but i'm patient as much as trumps wants to keep the obamacare...
9 miles run tomorrow, before second stage job interview. so i'll be nervous and i'll have to sing. really really loud. "before i forget"...8 -
Apparently Mother Nature heard me complain about the wind yesterday and she decided to show me what for with some major wind today. I still ran my 1.5 miles, which is not a bad distance for a windy day. But don't tell Mother Nature that. I need her to believe that she kicked my *kitten*.
3/4 - 3 miles

Morning nonrunning check in. Dr. Notes from my appointment finally online, so I could recheck recommendations. I have to correct one thing, I do not have Patellofemoral Syndrome, I misheard the Dr. Just a "minor sprain of the patellar ligament"
Notes pretty much included what I had said before EXCEPT: I am free to run once I am pain free for 3 days! YAY! Dr noted that since I stopped running as soon as the pain was bad, and was icing it and taking NSAIDs, I caught it before there was too much damage.
I'm still planning on not running for a 2-3 more days for sure, and if there's any pain, to extend that but, after asking a quick question of my Dr. (to clarify the pain free for 3 days part) I'm cleared to run as early as Thursday, as long as the pain going up and down stairs stays away. Then she wants me taking the running easy for a few days and after that, if all goes well, I'm cleared to resume training!!!!!
Huge relief. Not saying theirs light at the end of the tunnel yet, but at least I know there's an end to the tunnel somewhere.11 -
3/1 6
3/2 4.5 + 6 x strength circuits
3/3 8.5
3/4 6.2 + 60' athletic conditioning
3/5 7.5 EZ pace
3/6 7.25
40/175
Despite how tired I was this morning, I made it out the door early and got my run in, but man was it tough! Feels good to have that done though. Happy Monday all.3 -
@erp3996 - Congrats on crushing the distance!
@MNLittleFinn - Sounds like great news! You'll be crushing the miles again soon it sounds like.1 -

Finally able to come to the thread, I need to read and catch up with everyone. Life has been just beating the *kitten* out of me. I haven't had time to read at all. I did have time to see Skip's first T&F meet on Saturday she was released from PT on Tuesday and Coach only let her run the 1600 on Saturday and she ran a 6:26 not her PR but she was happy with having no pain. She usually runs the 800, 1600 and 4x800 but is going to ask Coach to put her in the 3200 starting in a couple of weeks. No one at our school runs it and she said "I'm a cross country runner I need to run the longer race".
3/1 - 5 - zip
3/6 - 2
2 out of 50 miles
I was very happy with today's run, it's been almost a month since I got hurt and I did 2 pain free miles. When I went to the PT last week he feels that my gluteus maximus muscle is pushing on a tendon and that is what is hurting so bad. He gave me the WTF look for not doing my exercises at least a few days a week. Like the doctor he wants me to cross train and do strength work.

Interesting post @iofred. I am a long, long time Kayano wearer. As in, I have been wearing them for over 10 years and have probably gone through at least 30 pairs. However, I believe that the 22s are partially responsible for my current hamstring tendonitis. Something vastly different in the heal fit of this shoe versus previous models.
Well, even though I am still on a great big goose egg of mileage for the month, I have been hanging out and checking in. So good to see so many familiar faces returning this month and lots of new faces too!
I am currently on day 11 of no running. PT appointment tomorrow, and he is going to see if he thinks I can ease back into it. Still up in the air about my race this weekend. I was planning on racing one of my favorite half marathons, the Cincinnati Heart Mini. I have run it the past 5 years in a row and did the 15K 4 times prior to that, so I would hate to miss it. But it is a very challenging course, so I think racing it is out. I am hoping he gives me the go ahead to run it easy, or maybe at a minimum, run the 15K.
I am trying to keep active to keep my fitness up and also to burn some calories because lowering the intake is just not sticking! I did a Cyclebar class on Saturday morning and it kicked my *kitten*! Running fitness obviously does not translate to biking fitness. They track the class based on your wattage output and give you a rank. I was 24 out of 38 people. Below average. I am going back tonight and my goal is to be in the top half of the class!
In addition to some biking, I have been doing P90X3 videos, tons of walking the dog and tons and tons of PT stretches. I still gained a pound this week. Come on you stupid hamstring...Heal!!!5 -

I have a question for those of you that have gone through PT for running injuries: How long do your daily assignments take to complete? My PT has me doing a set of 6 exercises, which takes about 20-25 minutes to complete all of the reps. I am supposed to do this 4-5 times per day. That is a lot of time! Way more time than I spend running! Seems excessive.0
