March 2017 Running Challenge

Confession time. I was so happy to be running and "healthy" for the first time in over a week, that I ran too hard. 3.14 miles in 27:21 for an average pace of 8:43.
Legs felt good, but my cardio is definitely down from time off running plus stomach flu. Going to have to rebuild some on that front. Speed is still there, just not the cardio to back it
Side note, I had my usual pace alerts turned off. They keep me close to a pace range of 9:45-10:30, I tend to go too fast without them.....Guess tonight proves that.11 -
JessicaMcB wrote: »@juliet3455 have you or anybody you know run the Red Deer Marathon (Woody's full)? I just realized it is a BQ certified event and early bird reg is over on the 21st so not much time to decide . It's also a hair less than a month out from Banff...why can't I just run all the things?!
@JessicaMcB I know of 1 guy in our community who has run Red Deer, unfortunately he is away on a extended South Pacific vacation (close to Orphia & emmab0902) with his famdamily and won't be back until early April so I can't ask him any questions. The only concern I can see looking at the course map is there are a few 120-280 degree turns which can really slow you down. I remember people talking about that from Kelowna.
Swim club tonight so no running to report.2 -
Had a great run today. Way too hot but it felt really good. Followed it up with strenght training tonight. I was still sore from Tuesday's workout (mostly legs and core) and I am sure I won't be able to raise my arms tomorrow after tonight's workout (mostly arms and core). Feels good to be back at it and so happy to be lifting heavy once again!

Yesterday's steady run was really hard after several consecutive running days, but today just called for 25 minutes easy so figured I'd be able to get through it. At least the weather was good at 9C, slightly overcast and breezy (9mph). This shorts and s/s top thing is becoming a habit!
Anyway, felt great today and just didn't want to stop running, so what should have been 25mins easy turned out to be 40mins MP. Probably would have been longer if didn't have other commitments! No running this weekend though and despite how today felt, memory of yesterday reminds the rest is definitely overdue.

Morning after first run check in. Feeling pretty good right now, and very happy I decided to get my run in last noght. was -10F when I woke up, with -27 windchill, and I 'm not sure I could have gotten myself motivated to go out in that weather, considering I was unsure I could even run.
Not really feeling any adverse effects from last nights run, though I do now remember that I need to eat more! having the stomach flu, I didn't have an appetite, and so I'm down weight.....making myself eat is now a priority!
Anyway, it looks like I'll be getting into gear again soon, and after my coaching call on Monday, I should be soon marathon training again!9 -
Today's run had that "I feel awesome" kind of feel to it. Probably helps somewhat that it's Friday, pay day, and someone's scheduled to bring in breakfast; wonder if it'll be donuts or tacos?

I've bumped my pace up a bit lately and so I'm running slightly shorter distances. Will take me a little time to build up, but my usual pace was starting to feel too easy. Also need to start taking a daily allergy pill. Spring is in the air and my throat/nose/ears are beginning to itch!!! Tired of clearing my throat my entire run7 -
@snowyne Have you considered immunotherapy? I did it and started to see results within just a few months of the course; in all, I did two years of it, and now I don't use allergy pills at all unless high winds are blowing pollen in from miles away (the immunotherapy I took just treated for local pollens).4

OK, confession time...The last few Fridays I've been doing a slightly longer run of 10-11 miles and normally that would be on tap for this evening...however, my hair right now is awful! I need a cut and color so badly I look like a calico cat. I can get an appointment this afternoon at the expense of my run. So, am I a hard a** or just want to sit in a nice chair for 2 hours and basically get a scalp massage? Hmmmm. Still undecided.

@garygse - I've considered it, but haven't followed through. Just laziness on my part! You've prompted me to think about it again, though and I'm glad to hear it's been so effective for you. Now that I've started running, I really need to get my allergies under control. I'm pretty certain my biggest trigger is grass...as soon as it starts to grow in early spring, my head explodes. I take a Zyrtec every day, spring-early fall.2
