Okay I just want to start out by saying I have never been into fad diets.
But I have been reading almost everywhere about how apple cider vinegar and activated charcoal deluted water will help you loose weight
The apple cider vinegar mixed with 8 oz of water every morning supposably helps people loose 7-10 pounds in 2 weeks.
I also have read that activated charcoal also helps with weight loss when you mix it with water because it draws out the toxins in your body.
I have been following my healthy lifestyle for about 7 weeks and wanted to add something else in to help with my weight loss. I don't take anything that isn't "natural" so I take pills or anything but what can be the harm in trying? I have lost 15 pounds with just diet and excersise but maybe this will push the weightloss?
If you have tried or known anyone who has tried these two things please post the experience and results.

Both of those are complete nonsense. Your liver and kidneys are doing all of the toxin removal you need. If not, then self-administering charcoal is not the answer - the hospital is. The ACV really is just completely made up BS.11

This' a myth! If you aren't suffering via, liver/kidney failure then; these organs'll naturally detoxify you themselves!2

that's what I was thinking as well. I tried to take a shot of that stuff and it was absolutely the most disgusting stuff ever. (apple cider vinegar) But it does taste great mixed with some avacado oil for salad dressing5

I really thought we were done with the ACV threads, but they just keep on coming.10

Well, sure. It's really good as the acid when making collards, too.2 -
Okay - the apple cider vinegar thing has been around for DECADES. So even though you've been reading it everywhere.....it's woo.
The activated charcoal water might be a new one (never heard of it).......but that brings up a good point if it actually worked wouldn't everyone know it? We have kidneys and a liver for detoxification. If yours are not doing their job....you need a doctor.
7-10 pounds in 2 weeks......7 x 3500 = 24,500 calories. That would be a 1,750 calorie deficit every single day.....only very obese people would have a shot at that.4 -

I take activated charcoal for gas, lol. Doesn't do anything for weight loss though.6

You've lost 15 pounds in 7 weeks. What do you need to "push the weightloss" for? You are doing great.14

This! Activated charcoal is great for some gut issues, but it's not going to magically melt fat off your body. Neither will ACV, though it makes a tasty salad dressing.

@need2exerc1se How does it help with your gut? I need GI help and have tried probiotics...0

so glad i bought an enormous ACV at the store last week. but yes I use it for fresh mozz/tomato/basil! Im keto so its an amazing substitute for balsamic. Guess ill just have a sh*tload of it for the next year haha0

I recently read that taking activated charcoal without medical supervision can be dangerous. They do administer in hospital for drug overdose, etc, but that is a life and death situation. I don't believe doctor's know everything, but I have seen numerous warnings out their about taking charcoal. I do use it in face masks and tooth powder, just decided not to take orally. I read recently that taking apple cider vinegar for weight loss is a little like trying to bail out a flooding boat with a teaspoon. It may help, but not enough to really make it worth it. I think when people drink the morning concoction you see, it is starting their metabolism up in the morning (usually people that don't eat breakfast) , which will help you lose weight, but you won't lose that type of weight consistently as your body adjusts.5

ACV is also great for marinating meat for the grill or slow-roasting pork!1

Or curdling almond milk when you're making a dairy-free recipe that calls for buttermilk (or curdling regular milk if you haven't got buttermilk)!3 -
What can be the harm in trying you ask OP? Activated charcoal is what is provided as an emergency treatment for someone who has been poisoned. It causes the poison to bind to the surface of the charcoal (adsorbtion), rather than being absorbed into the blood stream and metabolic processes. Additionally, and more concerning, it can cause other substances to bind to it, including prescription medications, food nutrients, vitamins, etc. The charcoal stays in your body with those substances bound to it until your body expels it during a bowel movement.
Does that sound like something that you think is a healthy substance to ingest on a regular basis?
If you are reading about the benefits of ACV and activated charcoal "everywhere", you need to find some new reading material and new sources. Whatever site you are looking at, stop visiting that site. These are not substances that will be beneficial for weight loss and it is a travesty that so many people are being deluded into thinking that this woo is something they should consider to "push your weight loss". Why do you think your weight loss needs to be pushed? You are already losing at the most aggressive pace that is recommended, and it is only recommended for people with more than 75 lbs to lose.

I like it on cooked cabbage too, tastes great.1 -
Apple cider vinegar has some health benefits, and I take a tablespoon with water most days (good for arthritis for one). It does not affect weight loss. Green tea is a very good anti-oxidant, but I would be very cautious over using charcoal for several reasons, some outlined here. Be aware that being a member of MFP does NOT turn anyone into an expert on food, health and nutrition. Seek professional advice for that... Best of luck, and take care.2

Use ACV to make a marinade for top sirloin, apply and refrigerate for at least 1/2 hour.
Use charcoal to start up grill and cook said sirloin. Eat and enjoy.7
