You don't gain weight because your are under eating not because you're fasting.
Your diet is severely deficient. Get help.15 -
Like I said in your other thread, I only fast for medical reasons.0
-
Eat less than 20g net carbs per day (carbs minus fiber). Eat all the fat and protein you want. Joy ensues.8

Why????3 -
So you fast from 3pm to 6am?
An you refeed once a week?
Are you just looking for other fasters, or is there a question?0 -

That would make me very sad. And completely irrelevant to fasting....6 -

Yeah, if I did that, gut cramps and a day on the toilet would ensue, not joy...3 -

This. I also told you in your other thread that you are under eating. I'm the same height as you, the same age as you, and at that body fat (which is around where I compete at) I'm 175 pounds. I'm also a woman and I don't go below 1600 when cutting. Ever.
You need to eat more. If your picture is current you should stop trying to lose weight for a while and fix your hormones. Eating 1600 calories followed by a 3,000 calorie binge and a ZERO calorie day isn't helping your hormones which in turn is making it so you are forced to eat less and less which in turn is destroying your lean mass. A true refeed for the deficit you are doing is going to be a few weeks long. You aren't improving your hormonal profile with a single day refeed followed by a complete fasting day.2 -

Looking for other fasters and would like stats, experience on how fasting has helped or not helped basically. I mention fasting and the whole room goes wild, maybe because there are a lot of "cookie monsters" or "snack craving" lunatics that mistake hunger for a lack of NOT DRINKING WATER OR STAYING PROPERLY HYDRATED4 -

I hover around 150-155 when bulking. To me a bulking diet consists of about 1500kcal-1800kcal ($pECIFIC FOR me because i am a small individual)Going up to 2000 calories makes me feel bloated even if I split up 2000 caories throughout the day and I don't even feEl like eating food after 3pm unless it's a fruit. I binge on natural foods NOT pizza or pasta or candy I've done that already last year and although it was great to have a day of eating candybars, oatmealwith honey, cookies crap like that I did gain some soft water retention around my gut and I don't like that. Now I cheat with fruits, brown rice, sweet potato, quinoa and it's not as bad as cheating with processed white starches. My picture is from about 3 weeks ago.
My hormones are fine my body has adapted.
I'm not going over 2000kcal daily if I do I will look like a water buffalo, or look like a soft polar bear, I'm not comfortable with that.3 -
Pros - You get to eat more food during the times you're not fasting.
Cons - You're hungry during the times you are fasting.4 -
I do a fairly standard 18:6 (ish) during the week... weekends are a crapshoot based on kids/family stuff. I typically work out either first thing in the morning, or on my lunch break, and I typically start eating mid-afternoon. I stop eating when I'm done eating... that could e 7pm, could be 10pm. I don't get crazy about the timing.
I'm 5' 8" and can be anywhere from 160-180 depending on goals and time of year.
I've been as low as 10.5% BF.
Hard cutting is 1800 cals per day, maintenance is around 2300. Both net. Both are reasonable approximations based on how I estimate/log.
It hasn't done anything special for me... but it lines up well with my natural preferences (I prefer to work out fasted, I prefer to eat more in the evenings, I prefer bigger meals and feeling full) and I like having the degree of structure it gives.1 -
I presume that you are fasting long hours daily to convert your body into burning fat and not sugar. It appears that you lack nutrients. I would eat Dr Joel Fuhrman's GBOMBS diet. Bitter greens, collards, kale, turnip tops, watercress. Onions. Mushrooms. Beans. Berries. Seeds. Eaten together these catalyze your bodies disease fighting properties. Yes I know that beans have carbs. I eat LCHF too but can't skip bean's disease fighting properties.5

Seriously? Yet for some reason your posts are the only posts about fasting that get a negative reaction from the cookie monsters, but they're fine with the hundreds of other fasting threads. Makes you think, doesn't it?
The short of it: fasting helps some people meet caloric goals and doesn't help others. The end.6 -

I'll take being called a cookie monster and lunatic over crybaby any day.
You'd get let push-back if you'd stop insulting people.
I don't fast because I don't like how it makes me feel mentally. I have enough mental issues without being consumed over clock-watching until my next feeding window.4 -

The responses you get on your threads about fasting are nothing to do with the thread being about fasting.
I fast, but I also eat a proper diet, that is balanced and nutrient dense. I don't restrict calories to ridiculously low levels, but I still get results.
If you actually gain on more calories it is likely your metabolism has adapted to low calories, or you've lost an awful lot of muscle. Well done.7 -

You are not a small individual. You're 5'8" and if 2000 calories makes you feel bloated you need to seek medical attention. 2000 calories on a bulk is NOT bulking. That's not even coming close to what your TDEE is. I think you need to seek some counseling because what you are saying about food is all the signs of orthorexia.14 -
I fast weight control. Once a week I fast for 36 hrs (10 pm Sun - 10 am Tues). On Wed - Fri I usually fast from around 9:30 - 10 pm until at least 1:00 pm the next day (usually more like 2-2:30).
But my diet is nowhere as strict as yours and I eat over maintenance on both Sat and Sun.
Do you only eat vegetables on your cheat day, or not at all?1 -

On cheat day I eat 3000 calories in chicken , sausage, but mostly fruits, apples, bananas, oranges, sweet potatoes, brown rice, quinoa, maybe oatmeal if it's available in my cabinet. Next day I fast 20 hours I'd say then it's back to dieting again0 -

Rest assured you're not bulking at 1500-1800 calories. That's barely covering your BMR and nowhere near your TDEE. You don't bulk in a caloric deficit.8 -

wow, you need to get a better handle on how to do this.
First, at your size you are not bulking on 1500-1800 calories.
Second, if 2000 makes you feel bloated then you have some kind of medical issue that needs attention.
Third, food type and gaining fat around your belly does not matter. If your surplus is cookies and ice cream, or chicken and brown rice you will gain the same amount of fat.7 -
OP, you should probably step back and take an objective look at what you're doing and saying. On one hand you claim that your methods are awesome and argue with anybody who tries to tell you otherwise. On the other hand you complain of looking "like a crackhead" every time you try to lean out.
If the methods aren't getting the desired results, then the methods are faulty. Or to put it another way, "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".10 -

1.I never claimed my methods are awesome if I did please copy and paste my quote.
2. I don't argue with other folks I simply disagree and open for insightful thoughts... and ideas
3. I am aware that my methods are too strict sometimes never did I encourage my lifestyle and nutrition on nobody else.
4. Over the span of days (less than a week)on a 2000kcal diet I will gain fat I hate gaining fat.
5. 1800kcal daily limit to me is more than I need to function and get a kick as workout and on top of that add a 5 mile run
6.1800kcal daily limit for me is what keeps me around 150-153lbs with some fat around my stomach and at 16% bf according to the BIA machine
Thanks.2 -

But why? Fat can be lost and it's not fat over a few days it's your body filling out with some much needed calories. Suck it up and eat more for a few months, see what that does for you. I bet you'd be surprised at how full your muscles can get and how little fat you will actually gain. You're simply not gaining fat on a few days at 2,000 calories, if you are your hormones are so far jacked up that staying below 2,000 is going to result in long term damage.
I don't know if you've ever been fat, but this is a good read:

5' 9" @ 190lbs... You are either exceptionally hard on yourself, OR you have an unhealthy perspective on what is lean/fat/etc.
I'm 5 8, 180ish... and while I'm by no mean lean... I'm not fat either. And I carry ALL my excess weight in my torso and midsection.
You clearly don't want to hear it, and you're obviously set in your ways/thinking... but you're not going to get much support around here. Threads like this will never get you anything you like. So the question is this: are all of us wrong, or do you need to take a step back and re-evaluate?
5' 9" @ 170lbs and 10% BF is going to look very different than 5' 9" and 10% BF at 140lbs.
Lastly, if I take your stats at face value, you've got ~24lbs of fat mass currently. To get to 10% BF, you'd have to drop 9lbs of JUST fat. That brings you to about 140lbs. Considering you'll lose some lean body mass with that fat, you'll probaby have to get closer to 135lbs to be at 10% BF. 5' 9" @ 135lbs... that ain't good.3 -

Interesting thread here...
First off I just want to state that it's very important for all to show one another respect and understanding...everyone's body and journey is completely different as well as our lifestyles.
I had lost weight doing IF 16/8 ... which I still do. I do fasted cardio in the mornings and eat my first meal at noon-1pm and usually stop eating by 8pm. I lost a necessary 80lbs to get myself to a healthy BMI. Last summer I switched to a 5/2 plan Fasting from dinner to dinner two day a week (my rest days)... and it dropped me my additional last 10lbs. For me the 16/8 is very doable. I'm never starving... I eat healthy.
I'm not an authority on diet... I'm just sharing my experience with you.
Don't shoot! Lol
Best wishes on your journeys ... and good health to you.0
