Today I ran for 10 minutes. I felt like Wonder Woman; then I felt silly because someone who can barely run 10 minutes isn't exactly superhero material. Still, I'm proud of myself.
You're totally superhero material! Give yourself some time and we'll be here for encouragement! We all have a Wonder Woman or Super Man inside of us, we just need to coax them out!! Keep it up, great job!!!fitbethlin wrote: »I keep resisting the urge to weigh in. I'm trying to develop healthy habits that keep back pain and depression at bay. The chronic back pain is under control, and I'm getting better at identifying depression triggers and avoiding them. It would be lovely if I could do all this and weigh less, but I don't find myself fixated on my body size like I used to.
Wonderful job on figuring out your triggers! I came from there recently myself, and although it seems impossible and like it's never gonna happen, your triggers will become easier and easier to deal with. Maybe even to the point where they're no longer triggers. I'm really proud of you!! We're all here for you. If it takes focusing on one aspect of your health at a time, so be it. You're definitely moving in the right direction!!!15 -
Yesterday, I saw someone I haven't seen since the beginning of January. She asked me "Where did you go?" I looked up, rather confused, until I realized that she was looking me up and down. She noticed my weight loss and it felt great!23

I've made it through 2 intro cross fit classes, not without a bunch of muscle soreness but I really love the idea of so many different activities and really challenging my body. I am going to sign up for the next 3 months and see where it takes me23

If that was so easy, 99% of us wouldn't be here because we could juggle all the crap life throws as us, and workout and fix healthy meals! You are doing great!
I fight depression, too. It isn't easy, and I can't do it alone. Celebrate your successes wherever they are! The rest are just your future successes.12 -

I would have NEVER fit 126 lbs ago, not to mention sitting on the ground being impossible (well, standing up again more like it.) This is lambie Laurel getting her bottle this morning.
This is just so wonderful!!!

The girl at lululemon told me I was small and needed to go down a size ☺25

Another one! My fasting blood sugar this morning was 90. N = 1 proof that Type 2 diabetes can improve just from weight loss.21

Madwife2009 wrote: »I needed to cycle 31.12 miles to make a total of 400 miles for March. I worked out that, if my DH looked after the children, made the dinner and got my son ready for cadets, that I had three hours, which was plenty of time to get those in. Luckily he agreed.
So, off I went. It was windy (what a surprise) but dry so that was good enough. I stopped to take my coat off as I was getting too hot and found that I was cycling at a faster speed than usual. So I decided to do a slightly easier route in order to get the miles in. Plus I'd already been up those hills loads of times this week and didn't feel the need to do them again The easier route takes me further from home but that was okay.
I saw some really cute lambs - they weren't very old but they made me go "ahhhh!". They could only have been born within the last couple of days. So sweet. No time for photos as I was on a time limit.
I'm doing really well, going at a great pace despite misjudging the wind and ending up cycling miles in a headwind. Ooops. Too late to change things so had to carry on.
Then (minor) disaster. My bike started making odd noises. At first I thought it was the road, then I realised that it was the bike. I stopped and found a flat (ish) tyre. So annoying. I didn't have a spare tube or tyre (stupid mistake to make) which would have been the quickest way to repair it so had to ring my DH. He laughed at me and said he'd be with me shortly.
So he turns up, walks across to me laughing and that sets me off as well. Once we've recovered from dying with laughter, DH repairs the tyre. Good job he came out as when I'd tried to undo the nuts on the rear tyre (I did have some kit with me) before he got there, I couldn't shift them as he'd done them up so tightly last time he fixed the bike. I'm changing the nuts on those for wing-nuts.
DH drives off leaving me to carry on. I decide to head straight for home as I'm 10 miles away and have less than an hour to get there, most of it is uphill, so I may get back in time to get my son to cadets.
I have never cycled as hard as I did during that less-than-an-hour. Got back just as my son was getting into my husband's car so we swapped over, I took my son to cadets (as I needed to get milk whilst out) and my husband put my bike away.
Checked my biking mileage upon my return and found that (as expected) I was under my target. By 11.12 miles. I was so annoyed. It was still daylight. I was really, really annoyed, so DH asked me what the problem was. I told him and he just said "go and do it now then". Despite the fact that he'd looked after the children, fed the children, got my son ready for cadets and fixed my bike, he was still willing to continue dealing with things so that I could have peace of mind (as it really was eating at me).
So off I went again. Getting darker by the second. I stuck to the cycle paths and cycled really fast (for me). A mile from home DH rang as it was VERY dark by this point, told him I'd be 10 minutes and rang off. Cycled even faster, and made it home. Put the bike away, checked my mileage and . . . . . .
. . . . I'd done it. 400 miles over the course of a month. It may not sound much, but considering the weather has been so awful, I'm pretty pleased with that. Of course, it's nothing compared to the 800 miles I did last September but there were more daylight hours, better weather and I didn't have so many constraints on my time as I've had this month. Plus I'd only managed to get out on 19 days out of 31 in March, making it a 21 miles a day average. So a good result I think.
But that's not all.
I've also walked 110 miles and been to the gym 26 times during March.
And DH has just informed me that it's going to rain this afternoon so if I want to avoid getting wet, I'll need to get cycling straight away . . . .
. . . . so off I go again
Your determination and a supportive spouse make this such a great NSV. Congratulations on hitting your goal!10 -

Decided NOT to have a pastry this morning on our weekly trip to the market this morning in Lux. Have to nip these slippery little transgressions in the bud!22

I've had a very stressful week at work and have been eating awful over the last 3 days (yay stress eating habit) and have been upset that the scale hasn't been moving. Friday we finally got a day off and I went clothes shopping to use some gift cards from Christmas. I was surprised to see that my tops have gone down a size and my pants almost 2 sizes (really 1 1/2 sizes).23

Just finished catching up on two weeks worth of my favorite thread. Major kudos to everyone who has posted! You are an inspiration
Mine is small but made me unreasonably happy. We periodically have to wear long lab coats at work, and yesterday I could button EVERY button on mine! Since I've had it I've only been able to do up the top two buttons as the remainder flared out over my generous hips Happy surprise!41 -
Trying on my summer shorts that are goal clothes. Found two pairs that fit including an expensive pair of musto shorts and a pair of lands end shorts that had a 10 dollar bill in the pocket.38

Nice! I love finding money in pockets so much that sometimes I'll put money in there on purpose before I put them away for the season. My memory sucks so it's always a nice surprise.

Not weight-related because ugh--I've been a little lax on watching what I eat, but... this week at the pool I was able to swim 500 yards of freestyle, nonstop, for the first time since high school!
I was a competitive swimmer in high school (100 yard breast and 100 yard free were my usual races) and long distances were the bane of my existence. After graduation I never swam competitively again, and stayed away from the lap pool as much as possible. I tried to swim laps about 10 years ago or so and found it to be drudgery--there were plenty of other fitness activities that I enjoyed. I took up running about 5 years ago and was running half marathons, but a knee injury last year has curtailed my ability to run. I've decided that I am going to do a sprint triathlon later this summer (because the 5K running distance is doable for me) and so I've gotten back in the pool for that--working with a trainer one day a week, and swimming drills on my own 1 or 2 other days. I'm just so excited that I have the distance down already--now to start working on speed!

I was able to skateboard today! I'm down about 30 lbs from 240 and even though I still have a ways to go it was great to be able to actually be able to do tricks and skate around again. It's something I've desperately missed doing since highschool. I started college three years ago and began a much more sedentary lifestyle, but that's changing now! The thrill from doing a physical hobby is too good to pass up. I suggest everyone try to find an exercise that is fun as well, this is definitely another huge inspiration to lose more weight.31

My mini and I went out for our 1.5 mile run/walk C25K run today and after our 5 minute 0.3 mile warm up walk, we ran (jogged) not only our entire 1.5 miles, but actually went to 1.95 miles! We decided we could make it "to the bridge." Yay!! Only 2 weeks into our C25K program, and we can already run 2 miles!25
-
I have two nsv's:
I was able to jog three mins in a row and felt like I could easily do more. ( Due to past injury's this would not be a good thing)
And! I am wearing size 14 jeans that I haven't been able to wear in 5 years! Yay!27 -
My roll of back fat disappeared!39

My husband and I went out and he saw me in my normal coat (size M); He strongly suggested to get a new one. According to him it is hanging around me and way way too big.
When I bought it 18 months ago it was snug, the reason why he did not notice before - I was wearing it as a wintercoat with my winter fleece underneath. That is gone now and it is obvious that it is going to go some time soon.18 -
Today is my 600th day on MFP. Worth celebrating, I think, being as I am a totally different person to the one who signed up back then
Ways in which I am different:- I am smaller. My clothes size has gone from UK 28/30 to UK 10. ALL of my clothes now fit into one drawer.
- I am fitter. I can run up the stairs without getting out of breath. In my previous life, I had to drag myself up the stairs and I'd be out of breath at the top (of 13 steps!).
- My BP and RHR are much lower. My resting HR used to be 100+bpm, now it's between 50-60bpm. My fast walk (5mph) heart rate is less than 100bpm.
- I love to exercise. In my previous life, my total exercise was walking to the car or to the very local duck pond. These days I feel deprived if I miss a day with exercise (and everyone around me knows it). I cycle, walk, strength train and participate in kettlebell classes.
- I have tons more energy and can hardly sit still these days, I always have to be doing something.
- I feel amazing instead of feeling like a blob.
- I no longer have the double chin my dad pointed out at age 11. Or the huge backside that I had.
I cannot wait to see how I look and feel in a few more months time!
Sooooo, predictably, to celebrate, I went for a long bike ride and a couple of walks.
I cycled 31.5 miles. An uneventful ride (thankfully). Lots of sun, a bit of wind blowing. Flowers were blooming, birds were singing, rabbits were hopping around, butterflies were fluttering by. And lambs! Not too much traffic and those drivers that I did see actually managed to behave themselves around a cyclist. Did my long loop (10 miles) followed by the hills from hell parts I & II twice. I then cycled to meet my oldest daughter from work and hit 39.8 mph going down HFH Part II. A good ride.
I then walked with my daughter to her friend's house for a birthday party/sleepover. She didn't notice it was two miles (hee, hee) but she didn't complain about the walk. I have also discovered new routes to cycle, away from cars. After dropping her off, I cycled home and found DH had cooked dinner (AGAIN).
Before my cycle ride this afternoon, I went out for a walk with my other three children as we had some errands to do (including feeding the ducks). My toddler walked three miles at quite a fast rate considering her little legs, albeit with a lot of encouragement (of the "just up the next hill", "just to the end of the road" type). She did really well, I am so proud of her And, on our walk we saw bumble bees and lots of flowers (the names of which were discussed in full, as you only can with toddler - you know, the "but why is that flower called that?" type of questions) and butterflies. We also saw a squirrel raiding a bird's nest - I have never seen this before but apparently they are renowned for eating birds' eggs. So we learned a lot whilst exercising. Not sure if my boys were listening but my daughter was.
A good day Now, if only I can get a good night's sleep (my lovely toddler has been a little too active the last few nights) it'll be even better.45 -

What a surprise...
Congratulations on your logging milestone and all of your fabulous NSVs! You've come such a long way, and I'm sure all of us here are proud of you! (And I'm fairly confident in saying that you're an inspiration to others too.)
It's great that your kids are getting so much encouragement to be active too, that'll be so good for them as they get older. I really feel like I failed my son in that regard. And I'm jealous of you having a husband who helps out so much with domestic things...15 -

Aw, thank you. It's been a long and often rocky road, as I'm sure we all know! But so worth it. As for inspiration, I get a lot from you guys as well. You are all amazing people. It's great that your kids are getting so much encouragement to be active too, that'll be so good for them as they get older. I really feel like I failed my son in that regard. And I'm jealous of you having a husband who helps out so much with domestic things...
It's been such a pleasure to see my children change from inactive to really active. There's nothing my toddler likes more than a walk to see the ducks, and she always chooses the lake furthest away. She's already decided that we're going for another walk tomorrow (as forecast says nice weather) - to the local nature reserve (a mile away) but she then wants to walk over the "curly-wurly bridge" (over the motorway) and to the next village before going home via the park. That's about 8 miles in total. My boys groaned but they'll do it without complaint.
As for DH , he's my rock and always has been. He reallly is a star and my children absolutely adore him. As does my mother! He's not quite perfect but he's making good progress in that general direction21 -
I walked in the Badger State Brewing 10K this morning with a time of 1:35:42....that's 2:05 faster than last year's event. Average pace of 15:26 / mile. I am so happy!23

While walking my little dog off leash, she broke into a run. So did I, and it was like I was spring loaded. Ease28

BMI is now in overweight! Small victory.
I took my bikini pictures today for future comparison. It's been 91 days since I started my weight loss journey. My measurements are reducing and my clothes are getting loose on me. By the way it's amazing how many tight clothes I kept buying now that they fit much better. I don't know what I was thinking.
Bust: 36in ( thank goodness this hasn't changed. I can't afford to loose any )
Waist narrowest: 29 in ( -2in)
Waist belly button: 31in (-3in)
Hips: 46.75( -1.25in)22 -
Ran into a friend of mine that I hadn't seen in months... She was totally shocked at my weight loss. At first she didn't even recognize me lol. She went on and on about how fantastic I look.. and as she walked away she turned around and said "and don't think I didn't notice that hickey on your neck!"32

Great job everyone!
For me:
Lately i've noticed that it really hurts to sit down for long periods of time whereas before this was not an issue!
I'm able to walk longer distances/ up hills without getting totally out of breath
Most of my old clothes are too big for me now
Starting to see veins more clearly on my hands - not really sure if this a victory for me
Being able to wear half sleeve tops! (whereas before was totally uncomfortable about showing my arms)
