Evening walk and terrible people

I'm sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately we live in a world where people can be ugly and horrible to each other without much consequence. I listen to my ipod on walks, and then when people honk or yell out their windows, I like to think they are cheering me on, regardless of what they are actually saying! Many of us have dealt with bullying throughout our lives, and people will be bullies regardless of how much you change. I like to just take in what people say, note it in my head, and then move on and move forward. I don't have time to worry about what other people think of me. Find support in your friends on here, and go out there and do what you love to do.4

Ugh, terrible people is right. Good for you to keep going with your walk. You are stronger than a some random stranger who feels the need to say that kind of thing. Way to go with the walking!!!3

I just don't understand the desire that people have to do things like that. It was immensely discouraging and I just kind of wanted to go back home at that point, but I kept walking. I just felt so selfconcious and I don't really want to go for a walk anymore.
To the OP - Please see my username. That is what someone yelled out at me when I started to improve my health a couple years ago. I embraced the name and used it to motivate me. You keep walking and keep that smile on your face!17 -
Good for you! Get back out there and ignore those rude idiots.
I'm a speed walker so I pump my arms when I walk. Sometimes I'll walk our riverwalk area which means I walk by several restaurants with outdoor eating areas full of people. I've had grown *kitten* adults mock me and swing their arms wildly when I walk by. Pathetic. I don't take it personal. I'm just hoping none of those fools have children they're passing their bad manners to.6 -
You have loads of determination, a beautiful spirit, a dazzling smile, and a great attitude. Those fools only wish they could be you. Keep on walking, fellow Hoosier!4

Remember that you are beautifully and wonderfully made. I know it hurts, but try and ignore them. Their comments are a reflection of the pain they feel inside and not at all a reflection of you.
Psalm 139:14
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.7 -
I'm very heavy chest and have had random men yell out the window very, very obscene and disrespectful comments to the point that I started wearing long coats in the middle of summer in florida. Then I realized, as @usmcmp stated, the things and behavior they have says more about them. You're doing what you need to, to become healthier. Don't let them still your thunder and ruin your groove. I wear what's comfortable, put my headphones on and they can say whatever the want, doesnt ruin my day anymore! Keep ya head up10

I'm so sorry. Hope it doesn't discourage you.1

I am so sorry this happened to you! *fierce hug* Some people are just jerks.4
-
Screw them! They were not raised right and need to put down others to feel they can go on with life. You are doing this for you and i give you a hug and a high five! Keep on with it. Hopefully you don't encounter any other jerks!

He is a jerk. Do not be discouraged. Keep walking. You are doing this for you. Do not waste a second thinking or caring about some random persons opinion of you.1
-
Just turn up your music and KEEP on walking girl! Don't let people like that ruin your shine!2
-
I'm so very sorry this happened to you. Hold your head up high and know that you're improving yourself with every step you take. People that need to do things like that really are awful people. You continue doing what makes you happy regardless of what those idiots have to say!1
-
You walk. If you want, I'll drive up from Florida and walk with you.13

I think he meant phat not fat. At least that's how I would take it. Keep walking.8
-
F*** them. You can lose weight but they'll still be assh*les.9
-
I hope today's walk goes better. With every step you get stronger. With every step you're getting healthier. What are they improving on themselves by shouting at random people they don't know? Nothing. Walk again today, like you plan. Hold your head high knowing there is a group of people from all across the globe who have your back, cheering you on much louder than that jerk! We can outshout that random jerk any day of the week.7

You guys are so wonderful. Thank you all so much!11

I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm really proud you went back out again after this happened.
This has happened to me before. I changed my walking route for a while. Then, I decided to think of them as a test. If I could keep going after that, then I knew I would accomplish my goals.
I wish you the best.3 -
I'm sorry to hear that!
Try to just think of them as stupid people who don't matter, and whose opinions don't matter.
If it makes you feel better, my husband and I were screamed at yesterday as we walked home from the bus. The person just screamed "AHHHHHHH!!!" to make us jump. All it means is there's one more stupid person I didn't know about until then. I know it's not the same, but... well... in the end maybe all screaming can just be screaming and not worth your time to think about!!1
