I went through a period of about 3 months this winter in which I was keeping my calories at goal, but was constantly starving. To make matters worse, my weight loss was completely stalled! Although I had been pretty diligent about getting enough protein, I realized I had to look at my carb/fat levels, too. After some experimentation, I realized I just don't do well if my carbs go over about 30% of my calories. Now that I'm keeping that in mind, my hunger has abated and the weight loss continues. My NSV is that I didn't give up, and instead figured out what works for me.44

Today a business associate didn't recognize me, asked who I was, and double taked when I said my name.23

1.The other day my SO commented that he has notice the back of my thighs, and butt are becoming more toned. I now have visible muscle.
2. Today I had to park in a small parking spot, thought I would have trouble getting out of my van. Instead I was able to get out without opening my door all the way, and I was facing forward rather than sideways.

1) My legs really ache tonight. But I'm happy about that
That's because, for the first time in months, I have done a long cycle ride. 35.76 miles. I haven't cycled that far in one ride since October, because of the weather and health problems.
For whatever reason today, I decided to see how far I could get in 90 minutes. I made it to the next county, and ended up closer to where I used to live than where I currently live. I thought that it would take me a good two hours to get back (as it's mostly uphill and into wind) but it didn't, it only took about 100 minutes. So the short, harder rides (up those lovely hills ) over the winter have paid off as I can go further, faster. The last time I did this particular route, it took me 227 minutes. Today it was 190 minutes.
And I hit 39.7 mph going home - slightly disappointed that I didn't hit over 40mph but I'm blaming that on the new tarmac that's been laid. They've clearly altered the slope of the hill .
2) I have also cut the time it takes me to cycle to the gym from 23 minutes to 17 minutes.
3) I have downloaded a C25K app. My son and I are going to try this tomorrow. I have told him that if he doesn't like it after the first session then he doesn't have to continue35 -
I started level 3 of 30 day shred today and traded my maternity shorts for the shorts I wore last summer (im two months postpartum)!27

It is official. My husband and I can not switch drivers when we are out and about without a lot of groaning, complaining, and moving seats and mirrors around. It was convenient to share the same seating position for all those years, but that time in our marriage is over. Back to driving our own respective vehicles with everything adjusted individually.
Also, I'm into size 18's now. The size 20 jeggings I'm wearing look like regular jeans and this XL shirt fits great!30 -
I've been working out recently and today during a PiYo workout (which unfortunately I had to end early due to back pain) I was able to keep up with a lot of the moves AND I was able to do more triceps push ups! I'm already noticing that I'm getting stronger; I'm hoping my doctor will know what my back pain is so I can fix it and continue!!
Thank you everyone for your posts; whenever I'm feeling disheartened by the scale not moving or I've had a rough week, y'all motivate me to keep going ❤️17 -
Ran 2.5 miles straight, for the 3rd time. I know I could have made it the rest of the 0.6 to make it 5K, but my mini was acting like he was going to die for the whole last 1/2 mile. It kinda aggravated just a little because he's 11 and I'm 37. How can I be in that much better shape than him?!?! We are gonna have to work on that this summer!21

Yes. After dinner, on Easter, when we ran some short competitive bits, 61 year old me wasn't out of breath, but 6 year old great grand nephew was. I'm worrying about the boy. Unlike you, I lack routine influence: I live far away.10 -
I saw a video today that I made about a year and a half and 55 pounds ago. I often don't see a huge difference in how I look, especially in my face, but... Wow.20

When a colleague set out a large bowl of chocolate Easter candy a couple of weeks ago, I grabbed a handful (what I might have eaten) and "consumed" it by throwing it away. It worked! From then on, it didn't tempt me.16

Fit into another old pair of jeans! Good thing, cause these are my painting jeans and I needed them this week.17

I bought shorts. Haven't worn shorts in... ??? Years! No joke. I lived in both Kentucky and Illinois and wore pants all summer.20

I've been struggling lately. I have Congestive Heart Failure and if I don't watch my sodium intake my weight can easily go up 8 -13 pounds in one day and even though I know what it is, it's still disheartening that I've let myself do it again, and sometimes it becomes a problem for a week or more. This time it has basically been out of whack for two weeks. I knew that I needed to come here and start reading. For some reason, it just helps me to know that we all struggle with things that can derail us, and it gives me the courage to get back on the wagon. Yesterday was a good attempt but not perfect with the healthy low sodium diet, but today I cleaned out my closet and tried on clothes that hadn't fit for a LONG time and most of them fit now, maybe not all them perfect but I could wear them. That just made me feel so good and it made me want to get back on the wagon whole heartedly, even though I'm going out to dinner tonight with friends for Mexican. I've been looking at the menu online and planning how I can handle it. Even without any exercise I still have 834 calories left for the day so I'm thinking a grilled chicken salad and no salt margarita might be in my future and in a few weeks I could be looking good in the things that aren't perfect just yet! Thanks everyone for sharing your struggles and successes!
OK since I checked the menu and I have no idea how many calories for the margarita, maybe an iced tea with lots of lime will be a better solution, we'll save the cocktail for another time!32 -
I ran a mile.
I haven't done that in... maybe since high school?
It took 10 minutes, which is way slower than back then, but it still feels like a great...milestone.29 -
I just refused apple pie and ice cream.
I love apple pie and ice cream so this really is a major achievement for me. Normally I would not be able to resist
The only problem now is that I know the rest of it is sitting there, calling my name.
Luckily my desire to be fit, healthy and strong has a louder and more forceful voice.

I was trying on pants in my closet and I was able to get on and zip a size 22W! Obviously still a long way to go but when I started my size 26W pants were getting tight.39 -
I finally weigh less than the price of gas

That's a hoot!7 -
I have been stuck at the same weight for more than a few weeks due to my logging sloppiness I am sure because my strength training, running endurance and walking are all on point and while I am doing those activities.....well I feel like I could do them forever. I like that.19

Laughing so hard at a great joke and NOT having 'tears' running down my legs! (Or when I cough, sneeze, or trip) A wonderful byproduct of a stronger core.37

1. I was able to keep up with this guy at the park!
2. I fit down all the slides he asked me to go down. I want to get fit to be a better, more involved mom, so this is kinda a big deal32 -
Out running today and I was running faster than the paving roller (not sure what it is called but used in construction to pack/roll asphalt) was moving down the street!!!!! Put the jets on a bit to move faster & exchanged knowing looks with the driver as I left him in my dust! You know, one of those moments when you get what the other person is thinking!!
Anyway, a humorous NSV!29 -
The last time I lost some weight, I bought a nice jacket from REI for too much money, and it was snug. I was losing weight, so surely it would fit better soon enough. Nope. Gained 15 lbs back. I've now lost enough that the jacket is loose, even when worn over a thick sweatshirt. Which is ALSO loose!40

I am in the Drive-Thru line at Chick-fil-A and I am actually grumpy cuz I'm having to wait for my fruit cup ?????!!!!
I am so craving fruit right now !
if you would of told me that 6 months ago, I woulda laughed at you ....maybe for my nuggets but not for a fruit cup!
Happy my appetite and craving are changing to the healthyside!28 -
All the conditions for a binge were there yesterday afternoon: I was by myself, was feeling frustrated/overwhelmed and was watching TV. Normally any of those three by themselves would lend themselves to overeating. But combined? Forget about it, it's usually a binge.
But not yesterday. I ate a few things, logged them. Thought about eating a few more, prelogged them, and realized they would undo all the hard work I put into my workout in the morning. So I deleted them, made myself some tea, and waited for the "binge urge" to pass.
And it did.
Victory indeed!!!!63 -
The sole of my hiking shoe totally ripped off the upper after our first hike, but didn't let that deter me--put on my Merrill barefoot trail shoes and rocked (pun intended) the next two hikes. NSV is that we are centering our whole vacation on activity--well, and some well-deserved relaxation afterwards!43 -
Second vacation nsv--said no to the post hike beer to leave room for a small gelato!29

My NSV is that i joined a crossfit box last month and it is a big change from working out alone to working in a group and not sure I would like it but it turns out it is just what I needed. So nsv is I found the best exercise routine for me as I have been reading how many people here enjoy their exercise and now I understand as I cant wait to go back to the next class.28

As of this morning, I have now lost more than what I currently weigh.
Scale-inspired, I guess, but, truly, I just thought my body wouldn't ever work right again after a serious illness / injury. Not exaggerating: I've been working on healing for over 10 yrs now. I could cry I'm so moved.74
