Then eat some mushrooms they are low carb1

If I didn't hate mushrooms I would totally go for some mushrooms in peanut sauce. Instead, I will consume some other vegetable in peanut sauce.
I always think cravings are more emotional than physical, but everything is feelings with me.5 -
Sounds like minerals and hydration in my non-professional opinion. Try drinking electrolyte water and see if your cravings change. Couldn't hurts.1

Mushrooms are high in Magnesium, Calcium, fiber and a host of other vitamins and minerals. A portobello mushroom has more potassium than a banana! Maybe, next time you go to the doctor, ask for blood work to see if you have a vitamin deficiency of some kind, but in the meantime, enjoy your mushrooms, they are good for you.5

Thanks everyone0

I think your preggers and just don't know it10

Mushrooms are awesome and very low calorie. Just enjoy them.2

Your body is telling you want to eat mushrooms, so eat you some mushrooms.6

Another gong for marvellous mushrooms.
Bit of a tip - as well as all the other lovely vitamins and minerals in them if you cut them and put them in the sun and they will make vitamin D for you, which you may be lacking due to your patch of World just coming out of Winter.2 -
Celery has a decent amount of potassium and peanut butter has magnesium.
Considering your running and low carb (less water retention), you may be craving electrolytes (sodium, potassium and magnesium).2 -

Do you saute mushrooms in butter?
Maybe you are craving more fat in your diet, which would tie with PB cravings.2 -
OK, peanut butter and mushrooms would be a food combination I might be expected to eat if I were in hell. I can hardly imagine anything worse! Well, OK, if you threw green peppers and oysters into the mix that might be worse!!

I fry them with some olive oil lol0 -
sounds like you need a nice steak with a side of mushrooms and a spoonful of peanut butter for dessert...
made myself hungry now!!! :laugh:5 -
Eat all the mushrooms.
They are my staple. I eat at least 120g of them every single day.2 -

Had half a pound with dinner last night.
BTW, they cook fantastic in water allowing you to eat a bunch for very few calories. Actually, I used the extra calories that could have been oil to add parmesan and mozzarella. Brilliant move if I do say so myself.3 -

I put them in everything as a filler. Made risotto/paella type thing tonight with chicken and bacon in a tomato broth, added 300g of chopped mushrooms in there. Hubster doesn't even notice, and it bulks the meal out nicely.2 -
What kind of shrooms?0

I highly approve of this.1 -
There is no science behind food craving = nutritional need. Your body is not "trying to tell" you anything.1

My body told me to have a beer yesterday, so I listened.9

I do them in water with a touch of soy sauce added. Yummy.
I'm going to have to try parmesan with them now.2 -
I opened the thread half expecting peanut butter and mushroom sandwiches...heh.
I agree, eat all of the mushrooms. I've had peanut butter cravings lately myself, and have solved this by making peanut butter and banana baked oatmeal. Good stuff, since a small amount of peanut butter usually goes a long way for me.2 -
Not sure why this wouldn't work. At least if you're into spicy food:
Portabello Satay With Thai Peanut Sauce
Thai Linguine in Chili Peanut Sauce With Shiitake Mushrooms
Also, when I was a kid I would dip chicken fingers into peanut butter. I think I've always been into really earthy flavors.1 -
All I could think of reading the thread title is that you're due for some thai food lol.0

A nutritionist was quoted saying "If cravings indicated what we should be eating, we'd all crave vegetables."1

I do crave fruits and vegetables though... And when I am dehydrated or after intense workouts I always crave salty foods because my sodium is low. There is definite links between certain cravings and minerals/vitamins you are lacking. For example, vinegar craving may indicate your stomach acid is far too basic. When I am lacking protein in my diet, I crave meat...etc. I have read numerous studies on this. It does have some validity to it.2 -
As for the PB, I sub Barneys almond butter that comes in small 90 cal single-serve pouches. Schmear it on whole grain bread with some thin sliced banana.
For mushroom, tonight I'm making spinach and honey goat cheese stuffed portobellos with a drizzle of balsamic over a salad. It's an experiment--but sounds good, right?1 -
