That you totally need to relearn how to shop for clothes! I'm an on-line clothes shopper and I'm used to going to certain on-line outlets. But now that stuff no longer fits me, and my body no longer need to be draped in tents. But I have no idea what size I am now, what would look good on me, or where to go look for it. I'm soooo confused... lol10 -
1. Swimming gets so much harder. The last time I swam before yesterday I was at #315. Yesterday I was at #205 and nearly drowned because I don't have the positive buoyancy that the fat used to provide. I understand the physics of it all but it really hit home how much the loss really effects so many things.
2. I can see better. My eye sight has actually improved slightly.
3. That my body could drive my caloric needs so wildly day to day. I eat more following a heavy run day than I should, but net it off the next day when I'm just regular walking and busy. I'm usually always in a decent deficit overall but it makes for entertaining stock market-esque bar graphs in the app.
4. That there would be so many less calories to play with once you get near goal and maintain a 2lb/week deficit This is an issue when you've become so fit that your body wants to fuel the bigger excercise loads (see #3!).
5. Not everyone drops a shoe size
6. When you check out of the store with a 32" pair of jeans you put them on the counter proudly, not try to hide the label that used to say 46" in big screaming letters.
7. Buying clothes without an X on the label never gets old.
8. It is actually possible for your belt to be the bit that sticks most out front.

That it is completely possible to change your body. Who knew!! Husband is building muscle while I am on my weight loss journey. He has bulges bulging in places we have never seen before! He is um harder all over. I mean his chest used to be soft, Now its hard. And he had love handles. Gone now. And I dont have back fat anymore. We feel different to each other. Kind of the same but different.33

That your body will be different at a certain weight than it was when you were that weight previously. I am fitter than I have ever been in my life, but my body now at 240 is very different from when I was 240 five years ago. Specifically, my limbs are slimmer but my lower belly is bigger. No complaints, just interesting to notice. Probably has something to do with how I got up to 325 in between13

Before I started losing I would get dressed with the lights off. Make sure I was clothed at all times. I couldn't stand the feeling of my skin on itself. Now I'm walking around my room naked half the time and my boyfriend is wondering if I'm becoming an exhibitionist lol I just love how I feel and look now!34

I didn't anticipate how differently I would want to celebrate special occasions compared to how I used to, and compared to my family and friends. Now when I go to a birthday party I load up on veggies and have a tiny piece of cake. Same for weddings. And I have no desire to have many adult beverages--empty calories that mess up my hard work! I now plan ahead and try to get an extra workout or more steps in if I know one of these occasions will mean more calories, too. Needless to say, my hubby has different priorities! Peer pressure has new meaning!17

Something I've really been struggling with for a few months now, and I just realized it's a result of my weight loss: I really don't know what to do with my down time now. Or where to spend it ...
I'm just not interested in the least any more in eating for entertainment. Don't care about the new restaurant, the new cafe, the new recipe, etc. Tomorrow, for example, I do not need to go into the office and have stacks of papers to grade. I don't want to stay home (it's supposed to be sunny and low 60's) -- so where to go? I don't eat enough to take up a restaurant table for hours. I can only drink so much coffee at the cafe and don't want a brownie or cookie or whatever. I suppose I can hang out on a bench in a city park, but it's not the same thing as being at a table with hot coffee and being around other people.
Kind of a weird problem to have: it's not just a new body but a new way of living, spending my time.

Can you maybe look for a hiking trail or museum within 20-30 minutes of you that you could check out? If it's company you're wanting, once you find something that sounds interesting, ask a friend or two if they'd like to check it out with you?14 -
That when planning vacations I make sure the accommodations include a fitness room or gym, or that I'm in an area with a high walk score.
It occurred to me earlier while looking at the facility photos that I was leafing through just to see the gym space. Previously that wouldn't have even crossed my mind before this journey.24 -

I often do language trips (currently trying to learn Japanese so I go to Japan each time I have the money for the trip saved up). In the past, for the accommodation, my specification would be 'within easy reach of public transportation'. Now, I write things like 'within walking distance from school - approx 4km max' and in the future I'll add 'or within biking distance from school - approx 10km max and availability of bike at host family if possible'18 -
That not only would i be awake cleaning my house at 6 am (slept at 1am) but id find a ouch in garbage room and drag it ALL THE WAY UP to my apartment....on my own....at now 7 am LOL and then bring my old one...down...So many splinters but yay new couch and obvious new strength im tiny LOL23

Getting rid of the fear of the seat belt being too small on the airplane or having to ask for an extender.
Better feet and knees because they have to support less weight
The joy of being able to lean over to tie my own shoes instead of making your kids do it because you can't reach
Seat belts in the car not being too tight across your chest (seat belts are a big thing in my world)24 -
You'll find bones and muscles you didn't know you had (didn't realize my ankle was a tiny bone, instead of this huge fleshy lump). People talked about fat people around me without first giving me the mildly-apologetic 'I'm going to talk about your type' look, which was quite an eye-opener to hear what people would say when no 'fat people' were around.25

SKIN SLAPPING SYNDROME--or "FLIP FLOP" syndrome discovered when I am running up the stairs, and wonder what the heck is wrong with the soles of my shoes---nothing!!! It's my loose skin flopping up and down! Time for mega support underwear!!!
On April 1, 2017, I got on the treadmill, and thought I would vomit after running for 30 seconds! I did the couch to 5K in 2.5 weeks and yesterday --33 days after that 30 second run--I did 10K without stopping in 1:08:55

You are my new HERO! I've also started to run recently, but at 5wks in I'm now up to being able to run 30mins at a stretch. I'm nearly at 5k, but not quite there yet. 10k in a little over a month? Yowzah, and congrats! That's showing those knees who's in charge now, right? lol9 -

This syndrome does go away . . . eventually
Well done on the running. I've just completed week two of C25K and I cannot imagine running 10k. A distant dream, maybe . . .

Some of the biggest shocks I learned losing 60 pounds with MyFitnessPal:
1. Man, do I get cold easily now! Losing all that body fat means I'm no longer insulated.
2. Chairs without padding hurt! I mean, they really hurt. Losing junk in the trunk means you no longer have built-in seat cushions! Yowtch!
3. Get used to buying new clothes. I lost my weight over the course of a year and had to buy new wardrobes more than once. My wife (a shopaholic) was jealous and I was just annoyed at having to spend all that money! LOL!
4. Losing weight is the best motorcycle modification ever. I'm a long-time motorcyclist, and fanatics will spend hundreds of dollars cutting down a few pounds by buying lithium-ion batteries and other modifications. I cut 60 pounds off of my bike by cutting it out of ME. My motorcycle's performance is INSANE now. Best. Mod. Ever.

LOL at the bike mod! My brother-in-law had the same epiphany. He was spending tons of money to lighten up his dragster by a few pounds to shave a few hundredth of a second off of his times. Then he realized he could take 50 pounds off the nut behind the steering wheel for free!23 -

3. Have not gotten to the point I want to spend a lot on clothes. The shirt on my back is from Value Village
4. So this is the one I want to comment on.
I'm not a biker. But I have a couple other hobbies. I fish but have not been flyfishing for a few years as I didn't fit my waders and my tube was a bit small. I'm looking forward to more fishing this year. Even being in the boat will be easier 100 lbs lighter.
I also pull a trailer (rv). The truck trailer combo I have is very near the load limit for the truck, and 100 lbs lighter in the drivers seat means I can take the generator, wood or something that I maybe left behind in prior years. Again, I haven't gone yet, but I expect being 100lbs lighter is going to make set up a lot easier.
I started riding to and from work. I have a decent hill on the way home that I've had to walk up in past years. First time riding I didn't have to stop or even catch my breath at the top.31 -
So I'm still obese, but now when I overeat I genuinely look about 7 months or more pregnant. I used to just look fat. Not sure if caused by weight loss or lack of abdominal muscles & 2 babies in the past 5 years...5

regarding this - I am overheating so much less with under 2 stone lost so far, looking forward to summer more.
(example, I walked 50 minutes with gym bag last month and wasn't soaked. Usually I take 5 steps and am 'too hot')
and haven't started feeling the cold yet. My gf is looking forward to that part as she always wants the heating on when I am dying of heat exhaustion lol

This is the first time I'm actually looking forward to summer! I used to hate it and preferred winter.
I've noticed I sweat less and it takes a higher intensity work out for me to really get the sweat pouring (but it will still pour when I work out). Just walking about doesn't cause me to look like a wet poodle anymore.
Given that I'm always cold, a nice hot summer is just what my body is looking forward to8 -

I think that if more people knew about this, and that it can be permanent damage, there would be a lot more people stopping themselves from getting as large as they do in the first place. They might just get to be a little overweight or even borderline obese and then stop themselves before they reach the skin-stretching-sagging level of obesity. Some people bounce back better than others. The problem is, that point is different for everyone so you might not know your limit until you've already done the damage.
Seems like most people don't think about or even know about the excess sagging skin aspect. They start putting on some weight and think they have plenty of time to turn it around - they just think they can put it off and lose it later and everything will just bounce right back like they'd always been fit. It doesn't work that way for most people, though.15
