I have been fully on board with eating less, exercising as often as I can since early October last year, so about 8 months now...what I have noticed is that if I have a less than great day eating wise I now do not use that as an excuse to blow the whole day or days or weeks, etc. I bounce back really quickly and get back on track. Today at breakfast I ate heavier than what I wanted to but instead of using that as an excuse (a year ago I would have said screw it and then blew the whole day eating wise and use that as an excuse to not workout) instead I moderated my eating for the rest of the day and did a one hour lots of incline hike this afternoon and just got back from kickboxing.
FOr me that is huge and exciting becasue it shows that I am finally getting it and learning how to adapt and monitor myself. Another thing I noticed is that even if the scale is not moving my motivation does not waver...I continue being motivated:)
Plus I am down 21 lbs since last fall:)33 -
I recently started working at a new place with new people. The place has standing desks for everyone and I stand at mine all day long. Last Friday the boss came over and asked me about standing all the time, "don't you get tired?" I explained briefly about exercise and calorie burns and I lost ~100 lb since January 2016 and his expression turned to incredulous. He said that he couldn't imagine me being that big. That felt good.32

*Just started wearing backless Victoria's Secret Sport tops and matching shortie shorts to the Gym. And I don't feel stupid. Even better....I ordered the first shirt in Medium and it was too big. I ordered 2 more in Small yesterday.22

I ran on the treadmill at 4 MPH for 5 minutes without stopping. I'd never been able to run more than 1:30 at a time. :-) I attribute this to all the belly dancing I have been doing.30

So as of three days ago, I am no longer obese! Just "overweight." I know that BMI isn't a great measure for every body type, but for me, the categories are pretty spot on - at my starting weight, I was morbidly obese, and my health was suffering as a result. Just losing enough weight to get down to the regular obese category made a huge difference to my health and activity levels. And now that I'm in the overweight category, I feel that there's an additional difference - the extra weight I still have makes some activities harder, but there are very few activities I can't do now because of my weight. Except maybe pull-ups.
Since my starting goal was to lose enough weight to no longer be obese, for the sake of improving my insulin resistance and helping to control my diabetes, this means I have achieved my goal. I have now reset a new goal - normal weight. When I started I wanted to make my goal modest enough to be achievable. I didn't want to give up out of frustration because it was taking too long. I didn't dare dream that I might be normal weight again. In large part it's because of the inspiring people here that I have the faith to keep going. My weight loss and fitness levels have improved my diabetes control dramatically, so much so that my doctor stopped all but one of my medications.
In other news, sometimes an NSV looks like the opposite. I was looking at my belly in the mirror and noticed my shorts were digging into my belly flab - it looked worse than before! But then I noticed this is because what used to be a firm mound of fat is now a soft loose layer over muscle. It's a work in progress, but there is definitely progress happening.44 -
I've added an inch to my bum! Thank you Strong Curves, I didn't think it was possible to ever grow this pancake but it's happening!30

I just wanted to say, I think that this post is wonderful. Awesome and inspiring. I love how your positive attitude just shines through and how your commitment is yielding results beyond your expectations.
I am going to go and reset some of my own goals now, just from reading your post - its made me realise a few things about myself11 -
150 day streak. Longest streak ever for me, probably by about 125 days!

I have been lifting weights for a little while now- the scale is up a little (1-3lbs) but my diet has been on point. I know it is water retention from the weights and you know what? I am not freaking out about it. I think I have learned to be more accepting of my weight fluctuations and understanding why they happen. And my other measurements keep going down so I am happy22

I know it isn't the be all, end all, measure...but hitting normal BMI this morning felt pretty dang good!50

So, my little hybrid bike and I hit another milestone today:
Four thousand miles, since getting the bike last September.
To celebrate, I went out for another ride and clocked up another 20+ miles.

And I found out that I can pedal up to 31mph (going downhill) before the bike and momentum take over. That's up 2mph this year.
And non-biking NSV:
My tummy "pouch" is changing shape and is getting smaller. I just wish that the fat around my midriff would just go away.27 -
My latest NSV was comparing my measurements to 8 weeks ago, I'm down 8 inches from waist, thighs, arms and bust.
I'm also a dress size smaller. It's so amazing, I'm extremely happy. I have a long way to go but I'm off to a good start23 -

That's so exciting for you! Congratulations! "Squishy" fat means they're empty fat cells that are still enlarged and now filling with water instead of fat and are about to "flush" and shrink at any moment!
**Warning - this part could be pure woo: I've read that some fitness junkies eat a bunch of carbs for 1 day (healthy ones) when they see this squishy fat and it helps force the flush. Again...this could be pure nonsense, though.**

I realised this morning that I don't have to turn my head to see both my sides when looking down.
Random, but cool thing to notice.
and did fastest swim so far. (in the random, unstructured speed training I rarely do)
250m (10 lengths) in 4 mins 10 seconds.
3 seconds faster than on 25th May
and was feeling really bleh and fat today (aren't brains fun?!), didn't want to swim and then a lady in the pool proceeded to tell me how I 'glide through the water' and 'have really slimmed down'23 -
I was clothes shopping today and assistant was helping me out. She looked at a couple of shirt sizes and said nope not your size...this is...and handed me a size 12 or US size 8 I was quite flattered and thanked her but there's noooo way I am there...yet lol. She was genuinely surprised hehe. It really made my day!14

I went shopping for clothes since I have no shorts that will fit anymore. A few months ago when I went to this store I wore a tight 20. Tried on a 16 - and the waist was all gappy - I had to go over to the skinny people section to get a 14! Woo hoo no longer in extended sizes! And one of my new shirts is a MEDIUM! There's some serious vanity sizing going on here, but still... one shirt medium the other one large. When I started I wore a 4x and a 28! And three months ago I was still wearing a 2x! Instead of having to pick from clothes that come in my size, I got to pick out what I thought was cute.33

I own really high end expensive sailboat race shorts. Think about 150 dollars. I bought them years ago for a Newport to Bermuda race. Last year I could not wear them as they were too tight. Last night I wore them for weeknight racing and they were really too loose. I have to wash them and put them in the doesn't fit bin.21

One of the security officers at my job just came up to me as I'm walking to my office and asked if I was losing weight because he noticed I looked smaller. I told him yes, I need to stay healthy to prevent heart disease. He said I looked really good. I thanked him! When random people start noticing you know you are really losing the weight. I'm celebrating my birthday this weekend the big 35 and I'm looking forward to starting my new birth year smaller and fit!30

I've got a couple
1. This is a bit odd but I've been feeling super unflexible lately. Which was kind of depressing because that's always been the one fitness thing I'm really good at. It turns out that with less of my body in the way I'm actually having to stretch a bit further to, for example, lay my chest on my knees or do splits. It's kind of cool; it's been a long time since I've been able to make real gains in flexibility like this. So actually a victory.
2. My sister visited yesterday and looked at me and asked if I wanted some of the clothes she has that aren't her style or color because she thinks we're about the same size now. Bless her heart. I'm still two sizes bigger but I am taller so it looks a bit different on me. (I am definitely taking the clothes though. I'll get there and I can't afford to replace my whole wardrobe). It was really nice though to have her notice my progress. Since the three of us have been adults I've always been the big one and she's been the small one. Now I'm firmly the middle one and gaining ground on the small one. It's also really nice to have something to bond with my sister with, she's also into running and fitness things so we've been commiserating on running in this heat. (It was still upper 80s when I went running at 9pm last night wtf?!?!).
3. On that note, it's getting too hot to run at home. Usually I run on a treadmill which I keep int he garage and it's getting too hot for it. My NSV is sort of two things. First, I haven't used this as an excuse to not run. Second, I finally joined a gym. I've been thinking about it for a bit but it's taken a while to get the confidence to be willing to exercise in front of other people.

I have one! I'm wearing the smallest size means in my closet. I have three distinct size points. And this weekend, I put on the ones I'd pushed back to the back about four years ago, and they pained me every time I saw them. Well... this weekend I put them on and they fit. I have been getting rid of things that are too big so I don't have the temptation to slide backwards.6 -
Me too! I absolutely love getting rid of my old clothes!! Most of them were old anyways, and my style has changed along with my figure! So excited to go shopping now, there's so much more in sales sections in Mediums too!12

I just put on a pair of shorts I wore last summer. Nope. Not gonna happen, even with a belt. In fact, I have already punched two more extra holes in the belt, and I have to retire that too. I can wear (technically, not aesthetically) my one pair of capris because they have a draw-string at the waist, but I sort of look like I'm wearing a potato sack.
I probably sound like a whiney teenager, but I don't have anything to wear. Hoping I find small stuff at Goodwill.

I got my first weight loss compliment today! I've lost just shy of 30 pounds in four months and one of my work friends commented "You're looking very fit, lady!" this morning at a group walk. She know that I've been working out, but I haven't mentioned diet to anyone not on MFP, so it feels awesome that someone noticed that I am *indeed* smaller than I was .25

Just finished the C25K program with my son. I can "run" for 30 minutes!
This is completely astounding and just goes to prove that anyone can do anything they set their mind to. If you'd told me in March that I'd be able to run/jog/plod for a solid 30 minutes I'd have said to collect your coat on the way out.
Unfortunately, we are not up to running 5K yet. We run about 3K in 30 minutes, so 5K is going to take 45-50 minutes. We aren't too sure how to handle this (ideas are welcome) but thought that we'd just keep going, adding a couple of minutes to each workout until we get to 5K, and then work on the speed aspect.
My son is even talking about doing a 5K to 10K program. When I suggested this a couple of weeks ago, he was totally adamant in his refusal. We may do that marathon/half-marathon yet36
