Not sure how the thought of pooping us exciting, but oh well...
I like chocolate covered prunes. I "hated" them until a polish friend offered me some chocolate covered ones but couldn't explain to me in English what was in them.2 -

If you have GI issues, trust me...the thought of pooping is exciting. I log my poops just as diligently as my stupid calories.8 -

I did have a friend who went so infrequently that she would celebrate when it happened, so I guess it may be exciting (not sure I joined in the enthusiasm though!)0 -
How are prunes supposed to be good for your back? Are you talking about the spine and associated muscles? I have never heard this before. I'm curious about the physiology behind it.2

My mom drank prune juice every day for decades. Did absolutely nothing for her back and hip issues, but it did keep her regular!
Personally, I find prunes (and especially the juice) to be nasty. But now that my mom's passed on (she lived with us for the last ten years) I can't pass the prune juice in the grocery store without thinking of her.
Not that I'd ever buy it again, mind you...

lol! that's a sweet memory to have I think I'll try the solid version before the liquid though! LOl! the liquid doesn't sound as tasty! haha! I'll find out today! lol! I'm not sure how exactly - I meant to ask my doctor -- but it skipped my mind -- was told other things to do for it. I'll have to ask next time if they are helpful. but I am also just curious at this point. I don't see my doc for awhile - so if you go at all - see what your doc says. the person just said they might be helpful and for preventing certain things -- so I'll def ask. But, still at this point I've grown curious in the taste and also have been told they are pretty healthy. have to check them out and do some reading to know why exactly. and thanks up above for the chocolate idea! Can't wait to see0

bahaha. I know. I tend to get excited and over share with close friends. They're like "....nice".
Mine used to be so bad that on Friday I would have to find an outfit to wear out that would hide my pregnant looking belly. I could barely bend over to tie my shoes
I have no idea how the *kitten* prunes are supposed to help your back though. Go see a PT lol.0 -
I don't need a personal trainer! thanks! and this has nothing to do with needing to use the facilities - I'm not sure if this was directed at me. I do see a doctor, thank you - so I'm ok. and I had not asked the doctor about the prunes. and prunes aren't magic - but if you have had an injury or anything like that and have been unable to really move and someone points out thats not so great on your back and says prunes are known for being healthier to eat to help in that department - ill try it and meant to ask my doctor but forgot. and it is true - eating certain foods do help certain things - so it is quite possible that it might be helpful. I just haven't checked. either way, at this point I'm quite interested in trying them - which I picked up and we'll see how it goes - but thanks for the input - but I know to see a doctor when there are health issues! So I wasn't quite sure how to respond to the above post - but feel maybe I need to explain that? I thought it was more obvious - or there in earlier posts... but I suppose that all needed to be written. But thank you -- again -- and everyone! #HappyWeekend0

I suspect she meant PT as in physiotherapist.2 -
I suspect "move" means bowels. Eating prunes gets stuff moving better. If you have a bad back, doing that can be painful and eating prunes would reduce the effort1
-
thats what I meant to write -- physical therapist. same thing, though. I'm seeing a doctor. but thanks again. I have a doctor! and a reason for all of this - so I've been seeing doctors! but I have a main doctor - thank you. ! I just wanted to write that to explain so there's no other confusion!!0

Physiotherapists and personal trainers are not even close to the same thing. My physiotherapist was amazing at getting my pain levels and mobility back under control when my neck injury had gotten so bad that I was getting daily migraine-like headaches from it and couldn't work. Don't underestimate the value of a good physiotherapist. They have a lot of great tools at their disposal.2 -
I find prune juice works better. I try to drink it without really tasting it.1
-
I like to cut them up, soak them in brandy or rum, and use them as a mix in for homemade ice cream (regular custard base).4
-
I LOVE PRUNES!! So yummy. They are like healthy candy... But watch out a few too many and you'll be panicking to get to the loo! They work EVERY time1
-
Thanks guys! The ice cream sounds awesome! Lol! But idk about a liquid!! Lol! And I'll def watch out for too many!!0

This caused me to have the possibly stupid question: what is prune juice, isn't it just plum juice? (I love plums, but don't think I've had a prune, although I enjoy dried apricots in many of the savory uses mentioned upthread.)
Anyway, I looked it up, and I guess the answer is "not exactly, a prune is made from a specific type of plum."

lol a personal trainer and a physiotherapist are not even close to being the same thing.2

If you find you can't eat prunes everyday and you're in Canada then the product holy crap or skinny b is awesome. It's a mix of a few things like chia that help aid your bowels. Mix it with a liquid and let it stand for a few minutes to overnight. I like it with yogurt. It's like a cereal and all natural.0

It's nasty, nasty stuff. Very thick and if you spill any (like my mom did all the time) it gets really sticky and stains carpets and clothing. And the brownish colour is pretty off-putting, too.
Can you tell I'm not a fan?1 -
I def accidentally picked up some plum juice and had a cup of that last night! Haha! That's so funny! Not my most favorite thing! And either it has a lot of sugar added or they are very high in sugar! Lol! But checking out that website because I now have a whole bottle of it! Lol and lol! I def can understand why you're not a fan snickers!! Lol! And thanks Stephanie! Maybe they have some by me! And it doesn't need to be everyday but more often than not - especially before I ask my doctor to see if it would help or not!0

Try this dessert: In pitless prune put piece of walnut and top it with a touch of sour cream - it's delish.2
-
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, but if it something you REALLY want to do/eat you can also get the baby food puree and add it to shakes/smoothies.
They are very sweet indeed. I love them just by themselves. My husband HATES them (and raisins) and thinks I am crazy to eat them lol2 -
hesn92 says they are gross, but I think they are awesome. I just eat a couple right out of the bag.

The prune juice is what I really like -- I have the prunes and I bought a bag ... so I'm trying diff ways. But the juice - is anyone else a fan of that? I think I really like it! Lol!0
-
And thanks guys!!0
-
Well, of course they're high in sugar. They're dried plums. I really don't think they're going to anything for an injury - perhaps your friend misunderstood (as people in here did) and thought you needed to move your bowels and not your body?1
-
....and you were so sure you wouldn't like it. Has it helped your back at all?0
-
Yeah, they are not "dry"... they're just "dried". It's been years since I had one, but they're very juicy and sweet. Not tough or "dry". If I'm not mistaken, you can even get the vacuum sealed individual prunes now that you literally toss in your purse and eat at your convenience. Prune Juice, and though? Not so much. It's a little thick for my tastes.0
