I managed to swim a 1/2 mile today. And that was after lifting weights. I think I should be able to do a mile in a few days.
At some points I was struggling to float, and I realized that the last time I swam I was about 30 lbs heavier. I am guessing I am way less buoyant now.
And something completely different: I am delivering a paper at a conference in a few days, and I am really nervous about it. I don't feel prepared; I'm still writing. This isn't normally like me, and I've been beating myself up ... running out of time and generally feeling like a flake. And I decided at some point this afternoon that I am just done suffering. Because if it weren't the paper, it would be something else. Maybe not immediately or that intensely, but given some time I'm sure I'd fret about something and have my brain try to kill me. So, I decided that my brain can try all it wants. I'm just not listening any more.
Something I really got as a result of my SVs and NSVs -- life is precious. I know it's a cliche, but so what? I decided my conference is going to be fun -- even if the whole thing is messed up, I plan to have it be the most fun I ever had humiliating myself in front of my peers ever! I'd rather it be fantastic and fun, but messed up and fun is OK too.32 -
I made it to the gym for the second time this week and talked myself into doing 5 more minutes than normal on the elliptical. Accomplished that and then also without thinking did 5 more minutes than usual on both the bike and treadmill.
Also, between Sunday's kayaking trip and the gym Monday and today I've already hit my weekly exercise goal for the first time in forever!27 -
I just did the third day in a row of insanity.20

This is actually a thing I discovered too - I had to teach myself to float and swim all over again as I didn't seem to do it as naturally as I did before losing the buoyancy. I now understand how difficult it is for children/non-swimmers to learn.youdoyou2016 wrote: »messed up and fun is OK too.
This is fabulous and something that everyone should accept because life isn't perfect and there will always be something that goes awry.

I had taken a skirt out of mywork rotation as it put too much pressure on my waist. Wearing it today and it's loose!23

I pulled 360 lbs for the first time last night! Two sets of two. This is the second set, so it isn't very pretty. But it happened!!!

May sound dumb, but when I'm out walking, getting my heart racing a vein pops out on my forearm that I haven't seen since I was young. It's not much, but I have l long way to go.28

Love, love, love this!6 -
I think I could have swum a mile today, but stopped at .7 just so I don't push it and re-injure something. (There's a C25K for swimming, which I'm obviously ignoring ...) I'm surprised how much faster I am than when I last swam 10 months ago. Sometimes I notice the difference weight lifting is making in life, but I think because the changes are gradual over time nothing seems remarkably or suddenly different in my day-to-day activities. But my swimming time is a a lot different, which is pretty cool.
I'm still walking a tightrope between total freak out about delivering my scholarship on Saturday -- which I am still figuring out?! -- and "Eh, whatever. It is what it is and I'm just going to have fun." I was thinking how absurd the whole thing is: up at 3AM to catch a flight to Toronto, to the conference, deliver the paper, back to the airport, and then back home to Philadelphia and back to bed. All this time this week and all the travel time and expense for read something for 18 minutes. How ludicrous. The lesson? I don't even want to do this, so -- unless the earth tilts on its axis or something -- this is my last conference presentation. Now THAT is a NSV: me doing what I want to do and not what I think I ought to do. Whoever made up all these "oughts" and "shoulds" is a t*rd.23 -
I noticed that my posture has improved tremendously. I couldn't stand this straight before, as hard as I tried--especially my upper back/neck region.
I did go through a period of shoulder discomfort. I wonder if that was related to my spine straightening?22 -
I tried on what I thought was going to be a skirt but was skorts yesterday. There was only a size 16 and size 8 available. I fit in to the 8. I didn't buy them because they ended up being too short for my taste but the last time I can recall what size I wore I was in 6th grade and it had two digits. I think the last time I was able to squeeze in a single-digit size was in elementary school. The smallest thing I could fit in to at this time last year was a 22/24W.42

I had half an ice cream this afternoon. I wanted one, had the calories, but only wanted the smallest one, I was given a huge one. I hate food waste, but it's still food waste if I'm eating it and don't need the calories, so in to the bin when id eaten enough28

Today is 60 consecutive days on MFP and of exercise. It isn't much compared to some, but is impressive for me considering how many days I've blown right past that calorie goal and how often I've previously given up in the same situation.34

I ran (Super slow snail pace) for 50 minutes at lunch. This is the first time in my whole life that I have ever ran for that long or that far. I started off not really wanting to run, but needing to run. As there is this banana pudding cake at home that I would really really like a piece of. So I told myself I could only have it if I ran for 30 minutes. Well why I was doing it I was thinking to myself, that isn't going to be enough to cover those calories, and you are trying to be able to run a 7k (which will take me about an hour to run at the pace I go.) I should at least try to get 40. So I was getting close to 40, and I told myself well last week you ran 45 minutes, and you haven't done it yet this week. Then I was like well I know I can run 45, what about 50? How proud of yourself will you be if you do that? So, somehow I pushed for 50 minutes. I think I could have kept going. I was in a nice rhythm.37

Good for you! Plus, you get cake!7 -
@youdoyou2016 Yes I do, and it isn't even going to go into my exercise calories. Makes me super happy.6

I didn't eat even 1 slice of pizza that the whole family was having. I ate left over chicken and a bright tomato salad. I was thrilled and can't believe that I wasn't even tempted.27

I can reach my arm around to touch my back since my stomach has gotten a lot smaller31

Ran to work in under an hour for the first time ever. Also have a pace under 14 minutes for the first time on this route. I am pretty excited!!
ETA: by the way, it was pouring rain the whole time!30 -
I just came back from my vacation. I didn't measure any food, I just eyeballed everything. While I did sort of watch what I ate, I still ate anything I want but in moderation. Prior to my trip I was eating on average 1300 to 1400 calories daily but while I was on vacation for 4-5 days I estimated about 2000-2500 calories daily. My highest caloric meal was the pasta dinner at Maggiano's Little Italy, it was absolutely worth every calorie! I did continue to count my steps. I maintained on average 12,000- 13,000 steps daily which is lower than my usual 15,000-18,000 daily. Upon returning I stepped on the scale and I was up 2.5lbs, but for the past 2 days I've been back to my routine and dropping 0.5lbs daily. This means my weight gain was just water weight. Moral of the story if you gain 2-3lbs while on vacation, don't freak-out. It really is just water weight and it will drop back as you get back to your fitness routine.
NSV- I spent all this money on new Victoria Secret bra and the band size is getting bigger. I guess it's a good problem to have since I am losing. Still, it's a lot of money I'm not getting rid of these bras until they start to fall off28 -
I've read lots of threads where people say they've had this happen to them, and they didn't like it much but it happened twice to me today and I loved it!! 2 colleagues have asked how much weight I've lost and that I now look thin enough. Oddly I'm still according to bmi tables 3lbs into the obese category so I'm not sure what they're seeing. They're both nice people and weren't been snidey so I've taken it as a compliment but yay some people noticed I've lost some weight29

Yeah, the whole 'you're thin enough' comments just make me smile. Clothes can hide a lot of evil.12 -
I just got back from seeing my family in Vegas and am bursting with NSV's.
1. I exercised for at least an hour everyday, including the days I flew. Even though it was 115 I still did lots of water exercise, walked on the treadmill, which wasn't as boring as I expected, walked around indoors, or did body weight exercises through the whole trip. The morning I flew out I got to the airport early and challenged myself to hit 10000 steps by the time I boarded my flight, and I did it!
2. While I wasn't counting calories, I stayed mindful of what I was eating. There was a lot of peer pressure to eat more from my obese relatives, but I only ate until I was full and didn't accept their multiple offers of additional snacks. I let them take home my leftovers, because I knew I wouldn't be interested in eating them later. I saw a movie with a bottle of water and was perfectly happy with my decision.
3. While most of my family was proud of my weight loss, I still got obnoxious body shaming comments from my mother and completely blew them off. She told me my dress made me look pregnant for instance. I told her I actually look amazing. I just loved that I didn't let her get under my skin or doubt myself.
4. The airplane was sort of comfortable. Last time I flew, about a year ago, I felt squished into the armrests and my neighbor. I had to suck it in to get the seat belt latched. This time there was plenty of room and I had to cinch the belt smaller both times I got on the plane. There was about 8 inches of extra belt!
5. I noticed my clothes starting to look baggy about halfway through the trip. I wasn't sure if it was just the hotel mirror or what, but when I got home I took my measurements and weighed myself. I had lost of the trip!61 -

This is amazing! I have a difficult mother myself and know how hard it is to navigate a relationship you've had since before you were healthy. You should be very proud!12 -
I needed to buy new work shirts that were business casual but good for summer. I am needing them to last all summer so I bought larges figuring they'll fit by mid-July. They fit now! Probably partly vanity sizing but I'll take it!23
-
I ran for 50 minutes strait. I am so proud of this I have bragged to anyone who will listen.41
-
I went to Qshack. I ate only about 1/3 of my BBQ plate and didn't feel deprived at all. North Carolina is not the most healthy diet friendly place!20

Able to wrap a gym towel around my waist tuck it and wear it!!!
Haven't done that in years!30
