I was chatting with a girl in the changing room after my PT session today, and she told me she had been watching us, "your so strong, I was really impressed". I can't believe someone described me like that27

I walked 5 miles Saturday evening. I started walking regularly about 2.5 months ago and when I started I was struggling to get 1 mile in. I remember after a couple weeks saying "I don't know about this, it's not getting easier" and I was ready to give up. I know that some of you walk 5 or more miles every single day, but for me that was a huge deal.32

This weekend I finally got the guts to do to my hair what I've always wanted to do to my hair.
Hot pink & purple highlights!
Next time I think I'm gonna go even bolder with the colour .39 -
I went to a baby shower this weekend and saw friends that I see every few months or so. They know I've been working out but when I got there one friend was like "Hello, you look GOOD!" And then when I told them I've lost about 35lbs they all started asking for advice. From me! About losing weight! Crazy.26

After years of the struggle I decided to buckle down and become my own personal trainer. My NSV I recently became an ISSA Certified Personal Trainer36

Today I dragged myself out of bed even though I was very sore from fighting the current during yesterday's kayak trip and ended up jogging 1/2 a mile and walking an additional .98. I shaved another minute and 6 seconds off my total mile time! I'm getting faster and stronger.24

Just ran 7 laps around my 1 acre garden non stop where as last year I could barely manage 322

Two new NSV for me. 1st, I bought some new panties a month or so ago, size 5, thinking maybe one day they will fit (already down from a 9 to a 6), tried them today and they do! 2nd, I got some Lucchese cowboy boots in 2011, size 7 and they were rather tight, dug them out yesterday abd they fit nicely now.19

1) The darn weather is determined to stop me getting out to exercise . . . . or so it thinks. I have other plans though.
Today. My son and I went out for our run. It was threatening rain. Very overcast, cold, pretty miserable. We went anyway, knowing that we were probably going to get wet. And returned an hour later in blistering sunshine and soaked through with sweat.
Then, this afternoon I hit the roads on the bike. Straight into killer winds. The type when you pedal like crazy and don't get very far? Like that. I got back from a very short ride completely exhausted. Decided to have dinner, check the tyre pressures (sometimes its harder work when the tyres need inflating) and head out again.
Went out and the winds had gotten stronger, even in my sheltered little bit of the world. Decided that it was pretty well pointless to try to cycle in those conditions (plus I had limited time and would not have been able to complete the ride against those winds). So, as I was not going to let the weather win, I dragged the family out for a 2-mile walk instead. Only one of the children complained but I gave him a look and he soon got busy putting his shoes on . . . wise decision. I also had time to dig out my daughter's scooter so she had a few minutes trying that out and is keen to try again tomorrow (she needs a bit of practice as she's not used it before).
Looks like tomorrow will be an enforced rest day as the forecast is rain, and plenty of it. Or maybe not. Cycling in the rain can be fun sometimes . . . . I think it's called "character building".
2) My teenage daughter paid me a compliment (I think anyway, sometimes it's hard to tell with teenagers). She was asking me about the distances I cycle. My average distance is 25-30 miles a day. She then said that she couldn't believe that I'm so casual about it (apparently I pulled a disparaging face when talking about this) when she finds it impossible to imagine cycling so far, let alone actually doing it.
She then went on to say that she considers me to be "super-fit". I laughed at this, as I'm not "super-fit", I'm just a lot fitter than I used to be.
Her comments then definitely turned into a teenage-moan-and-groan-session as she started muttering about my walking much faster than the rest of the family and that it wasn't fair of me to keep walking on ahead. What she doesn't understand though, is that I can't help it. I walk at the speed I walk at and struggle to slow down. I have to keep stopping to let them catch up. She also told me that she won't cycle with me any more as she can't keep up with me. My son won't go with me as although he can keep up with me, I go up ferocious hills that he struggles with and my DH won't go with me as he doesn't want to slow me down. My toddler is the only one who wants to go with me but her bike isn't made for distances longer than a few metres
I've always been unpopular . . .29 -
After many weeks of back and forth fighting myself, I finally survived a weekend without going outside of my calories, and all of my size small and small cut mediums fit well again. Once you get to a certain point of leanness it is amazing how much difference a few pounds can make or how much a extra thousand calories can affect your body.21

I put my own diet and exercise needs first today!
Occasionally we have step challenges at work, I'm usually well up for this kind of thing. Its all good right?
However last year, just as i was starting to really do well with food logging and 30 day shred, I joined one of the step challenges. It totally threw me off course. The other team members are super fit, super sporty people. I mean two were consistently logging 20k+ steps daily, and one getting in 40k steps very often! Great right, the best people to be in the team with? But i have some substantial weight to lose, and on workdays i have to really push to get to just 10k! I couldn't keep up with them, I ended up ditching 30 day shred to fit the steps in, which in hindsight was much better for me than just walking for hours. My appetite was just immense some days i imagine from all the exercise.
It was too many changes at once for me, and it all left me feeling constantly disappointed with myself. It just kicked me right off of the proverbial wagon.
I was asked last week to join. I thought it over, and this time I've said NO! I will join the next one if i'm ready, but I realize now that i need to follow my own journey. No more trying to do it with others, no more comparing myself with others. Its more important to me this year to to make changes that I enjoy and can sustain.
So i think thats a NSV? Feel kind of weirdly relieved.
Definitely a NSV; not only did you put yourself first but you have a great understanding of your journey and what works for you. Something similar happened to me. We did a work step challenge and friends of mine in another team started a mini league. Only they cheated (counting the steps from driving over rough terrain -which is an everyday occurrence, wearing the pedometer on their shoe and jiggling their foot throughout the day, swinging the pedometer around on a shoe lace); I did not know that this was happening, so even my very unfit, desk chained, no other exercise, friend was getting 13-17k steps a day! I was very happy for him, but their team were all getting incredibly high number and I couldn't achieve - even on holiday where I walked around a city all day I only managed 32k at my highest. I felt like such a lazy, failure, as my best was worse than usually inactive people. I stopped trying, stopped running as far or as fast and generally felt crap. It was a downward spiral. Weirdly when I found out about how they managed to get steps so high I wasn't relieved instead I felt angry and cheated. They didn't do it against me but I felt slighted that I had entered a competition in seriousness and they had treated it as a joke. Plus I was annoyed at myself for comparing me to other people. I'm usually really good; even when out running in a race just to focus on my gains and competing against myself.
One more little fall off the journey story was when I gave up all sugar for a month. It was easy enough to do and before that month not only had I been eating extremely well, but my body craved good food. After the gym all I wanted was a lean steak and steamed greens. Then once I completed the month of no sugar for some reason I went on sugar binges and it was the end of my last weight lost journey (I'm now back but weaker, slower and more fat than how I was). So I have been annoyed at my self for ages about that one, because I stopped my healthy lifestyle because of it. However I now realise that all it was is a lesson for me. Everyone is different and for me denial of food groups does not work. I have sweet things (which I love); but only if they fit into my limits. Everything in moderation.
Whilst I'm here my NSV for yesterday:
I went to the gym (going to the gym every day in July); and yesterday I had plans after work so I set the alarm for 4am to fit in a pre-work gym session. I've never done it before, and didn't do it yesterday as I preferred to sleep. Didn't let this failure stop me; didn't even count it as a failure simply ran straight from work-home to the gym then straight to the friends house.
Plus did my first deadlift without my trainer at the gym -which is huge for me because my trainer is at another gym which has light large plates and I know that I'm setting up right when I'm there. This time though I got over the "everyone is watching and knows I don't belong" and set-up (how I thought was best) and lifted18 -
Way to go everyone, so many amazing victories!
Mine is not being sore after wakeboarding, usually my back and thighs hurt the day after but no soreness this time! Weightlifting is making my hobbies easier and more fun!23 -
I got up and did my run, weights session and swim before work! (30mins run, stronglifts 2nd routine, 1km swim - so nothing too punishing). This was despite my body playing the, 'you don't need the toilet'......'nah, just kidding, you do really'.....'nope, you'll be ok'......'better run!' game with me, delaying my run for 25mins. tch!
means I get a lie in (30mins anyway) tomorrow! yay!18 -
I had a bit of a nerve wracking hospital appointment today. All was fine though, so i decided to celebrate.
Got myself some flowers and decided I wanted a nice lunch. I just picked out what i wanted - small pesto pizza and a chicken tikka salad.
And it still fell within my calories for the day - actually less calories than yesterday.
Whey heyyyyyyyyyy- I'm naturally eating better! The feeling is amazeballs.26 -
I just went down a pant size and liked how my legs looked in a lifting video my trainer took of me22

am a bit upset about this NSV - but the trousers I wanted to get into - wore them a couple of times in May, now look too big across the crotch.
They are mens trousers and due to my legs losing weight fastest, they pull a bit and look baggy across the tops of my hips.
I bought them around 7 years ago with the goal of losing to wear them. Just seems a bit unfair! haha
need to take my frock coat back to the shop as well - only worn that a few times and am hoping they may swap it for a smaller size
pretty much have a make-a-goth set to sell now! haha19 -
Bought new underwear yesterday for the first time in 90 pounds. Went from a Lane Bryant 22/24 to a Victoria's Secret Large. I didn't even realize how big my undies were on me until i got some that fit
also, I fit into VS Pink size medium shirts... what???47 -
Met with my favorite company nurse yesterday to review my workplace Health Risk Assessment scores. Haven't seen her in months. Right away, she noticed the slimmer me. She gave me good marks for my improved scores with smileys and "Wins" on the summary sheet.24

My parents have been in town for a few days. For the first time in my adult life I am smaller than my mother. My parents are still in town and I haven't resorted to stress eating everything in sight.44

My family and my best friend's family went camping this last weekend where she took a picture of us and I was sitting down, in SHORTS and I don't hate the picture!33

I hiked in the mountains for an hour today. I only stopped when I got back to the car. I feel amazing! Next time I'm going to push myself to go further.28

I can relate to what your daughter is saying because I remember how it felt to go for a walk with co-workers and they kept stopping and waiting for me, but then pushed ahead immediately so I couldn't even talk to them. It was humiliating and I never forgot nor ever went with them again.
Maybe you could try walking backwards.12 -
I looked at the Disney beginners 10k training plan and thought, "Dang, that's a little too easy." I found a different 10k training plan and thought, "I can totally do that." So I guess in 8 weeks I'll be able to run a 10k. Not sure if I'm going to sign up for a race or anything, but we'll see.25

I ran my 2nd 5K last week and improved my time by THREE minutes!! Mostly due to the fact that I ran it straight through and took no walking breaks! I couldn't believe my legs wanted to run the whole dang thing!36

I have iron deficiency anemia, and the most recent labs showed that my hemoglobin is at 11.6 - normal levels for the first time since 2009! My hematologist decided that I don't need any more infusions for the time being woohoo!41
