I slept in a little more than planned today, which felt great. Managed to get out for a run though before it got too terribly hot, although it was 88% humidity. I stayed on shady trails and had water along the way so it wasn't bad at all. Glad to get a reasonable distance in today before flying out again. Trying to gear up for nearly 100 degree temps for next few days (and failing). Hello ice cream though! Will be getting my Dairy Queen fix! I remembered the rec center near my mom has an indoor track so I might resort to that or the treadmills. Or maybe some extra rest.

Is summer almost over yet? To beat the heat, I am having to get up earlier and earlier. My husband told me I now have the bedtime schedule of a toddler. I fell asleep at 8pm last night!

Pulled the trigger on that hydration pack this morning. It took me the better part of 30 minutes to decide between the 1 or 2L. I got the 2. Who knows, maybe I'll be doing that much running, someday. I'm still fighting this right rear pain and counting the days to my next shot, 23. (11th of 8).
@skippygirlsmom I love the socks. They are undoubtedly my new favorite. I got ones that come up a bit higher than the no show socks. They appear to fit where I'll never need to stop and retrieve tiny pebbles from inside my socks. I will be ordering more.
@shanaber Did you receive your Oiselle order yet? I got a 20$ credit for your order. So thanks so much for the new shorts I'm going to get today
Did not get up early to run. I was awake enough, slept fine, but it's so hard to want to get moving work through this pain so early. It'd probably be the thing to do- but I'll never know unless I do it. Another heat run today. Oh, how excited I'll be to do my first heat run with a hydration pack! Whoo!

Same here, although I can't run earlier than dawn due to trail curfew. I turn into a pumpkin at 9pm.

Keep in mind 2L of water is around 4.5 pounds of extra weight. I think you said back in this thread some place you were small, so that could be a big addition to your body weight for a 200-pound person it is not much, but for a 100-pound person, it is a lot.

I hate 'no show' socks, but trying to find the ones that come up a little bit higher can be tricky. The no-shows always end up slipping down into my trainers making my feet really uncomfortable and causing blisters. As I said upthread, I'm really picky about my socks.2 -
Think I'm a couple days behind. 3.03 miles yesterday afternoon and 5.11 miles this morning. I guess I'm going to have to accept that I do better with morning runs.

Got in 8 miles of recovery today as I met up a friend at a gym we both belong to up north. Ended up calling an audible and doing the distance on adjacent treadmills, as I was a bit sick of the heat from yesterday's long run. Got through 8 easy @ 9 pace even though the gym was getting warm & humid. Still, my legs are thanking me for it after yesterday's long run.
Off on a ride to DC tomorrow-Saturday, and I'm traveling light and wearing clip-in bike shoes that aren't great (but not impossible) to run on, so I'll likely just get in a moderate run tomorrow AM before heading out, and just aim for 2-3 miles off the bike each day. Even though the trip is 330 miles (mostly trails), given I've been putting in 250 miles/week the past month and a half on the bike, I should be good to get in a bit of running at the end of each day (splitting the ride into 100/110/120 miles) to get me used to the sensation.
Weight is finally coming down (after some indulging) as I'm at the 159 mark right now. Hoping to be at 150 by Ironman Coeur D'Alene in 6 weeks which the DC ride should help with.

Well suck. I knew I shoulda got the 1. I've lost about 8 pounds, so the weight really should be fine. It's for training runs anyhow. I bet I can fill it part way as needed.
There was the option to get a 450mL bottle that stores in the front with the bite valve on it. Really think I should have done that w the 1L.
It's already shipped so...... Dang. I bet it'll be fine..2 -

Wow, with a dew point of 70F that was a brutal 7 miles. Was running a good 2-3 mins SLOWER than my 10k pace, but still was mostly in zone 3. Ugh. Well not dead at least, and back on the running bandwagon after spotty participation while traveling.3 -

Today was my first morning since...I think since I was in the Navy. I am NOT a morning person. Plus at 530am it was 74 deg with 89% humidity. Uuuggggghhhh.
I knew today would be super busy after work with the boys (twin boys in swimming lessons) so I just sucked it up and said that morning would be good. I felt like I slogged through it. My mile time 20 seconds slower than in the heat the other night. But at least it is done for the day. I have been busy at work and come back and there are three pages unread since yesterday!!! . Y'all move fast.

I'm now looking at my August calendar, and I've got two 5k races lined up. Both small local affairs. One has about 200 runners and the other about 150. And I think they're both pretty flat which will make running in the heat a bit easier.
Came home from the gym to find my new Balega socks waiting for me. I've heard good things about them so I'm looking forward to giving them a run. I'm really picky about my socks and when I find ones I like, I will buy them in bulk. My current favourites are City Sports own brand, and when they announced they were going out of business, I bought every pair that was in my local branch. My supplies are running a bit low though, which meant biting the bullet and finding something new.
I love my balega socks!! I wear the hidden comfort vtech ones. They still come up above my shoes so not really hidden.1 -

Got in a nice little short and easy run today even though it was hot and humid - 85F and 85% with a 20% chance of rain (it didn't). I am trying not to push too hard or go too far with the race coming up this Sunday. I am going to run on Friday morning before we head out for the long drive to SF. Saturday we will explore the Expo and some of our favorite SF spots. I am excited that the weather for Sunday is supposed to be so awesome - low of 55F and a high of 68F. I doubt if it will even be 65F by the time the 1st HM is over. This is why you want to run races in SF in the summer! I am really looking forward to it - should be so much fun!
@Elise4270 - I did get my Oiselle order. I ordered a sports bra and the tank with the birds on it. Unfortunately neither fit... the bra was too big and the shirt was too small so back they went. It is weird to me that they were both the same size and fit so differently... oh well I will try again once they credit the return Enjoy your new shorts!
I ordered a pair of the Steigen socks that Orphia recommended. They look really nice but they are being shipped from Australia! Amazon says I should have them in August - guess they are coming by boat! I normally wear Smartwool but am branching out and trying a few others to see if I like any of the other brands any better. I may also have to try the Balega's but then I do still have quite a few pairs of Smartwool in reserve that I bought when they were on sale.

@MobyCarp Thank you for the insight on marathon training and training plans! I copied and pasted it into my training plan spreadsheet and highlighted all the "slow down" comments.
Today's run was good. It was my usual runs with the running group. Onion run (4.3 miles) @ 5p EST followed by WSG Run (3.1) @ 6p EST. It was a little cooler (86F 85% humidity) than earlier in the day so that was nice. I donated blood in the morning so I didn't quite know how these runs were going to turn out. The nice thing about donating blood at work is that I get 4 hrs excused leave so I was home relaxing by 10:30. I took a nice long nap and then headed out to run. I took it easy at first and wore my HRM and monitored it often to make sure nothing was going bad. I felt really good! It's good to know that if I'm ever out running, and I misplace a pint of blood, I can easily make it 10 miles or so. I'll see in the morning how I feel though. On another note The Red Cross said my blood pressure was 100/68 which is an improvement from last Oct. 146/92.

7/4 - 2.98 (Based on Garmin distance) for local 5K… time was 26:22; not a PR at all, but I haven't run at all since 6/24 and won't be fat adapted for awhile yet.
7/5 - 5.03 miles - not as fast as I planned
7/6 - 3.01 miles treadmill. Plan was for easy miles, and these were scary slow.
7/7 - Rest day
7/8 - 7.37 miles. New trail running shoes! Went out on a trail I haven't visited for awhile, was hot and very slow. Very tall grass in areas made this very difficult as well.
7/9 - Rest
7/10 - Rest
7/11 - 3.0 easy miles treadmill, very slow, before weight lifting. It's hot outside and it is just easy to run on the treadmill at the gym before lifting. I knew I was going to lose some speed when changing nutrition again, but this is really starting to scare me.
7/12 - 5.02 miles, still slower than I wanted.
7/13 - 3.0 miles treadmill before lifting weights. Still slow, but plan was for easy miles.
7/14 - Rest
7/15 - Rest
7/16 - 9.08 miles, struggled with managing BG.
7/17 - Rest
7/18 - 3 miles, treadmill. Easy effort, but excellent pace. I've been struggling lately, even (especially) on the treadmill. This run brought back some enthusiasm. 2 things different this time: 1. The only food I had all day was coffee with HWC at breakfast, a piece of cheese for lunch, and 3 snack sized Slim Jims for a snack mid-afternoon (2 hrs. before running). Another explanation is that I'm finally more fat adapted again (intentional transition that should take longer than this) or electrolytes are better balance. This was warm-up before weight lifting.
7/19 - 5.05 miles "at race pace." Heat index of 108F, but still faster than expected for the heat (9:51 avg mile). And I feel good about my pace again. This time, I also did not do much walking to start out (1 block), and I took a cold shower before heading out because of the heat.

Just realized that there are only a week and a few days until my next race. It is a mile race. I have not run any race shorter than 5k in more decades than I care to remember (not since High School). No idea how I will do. Have not trained for it at all, but I looked at last year and in the mere mortal division the winner last year was like 5:50something. I think I could beat that, if not come close... but it has been so long since I have run anything that short at pace that I am not sure - the LAST mile of my last Marathon was at a 6 and change pace. So I should be able to do at least a 6:00 right?
I plan to start with the leader(s) and stick with them till the last 1/4 or so. Then kick it full - but with my luck a 4:27 miler will show up and I will try to keep pace with them
Probably run a 5:40, and trip 5 feet from the finish line and crawl across at 6:30!

@elise4270 - ummm still undecided. The right (Achilles) doesn't seem much different than before. The left is a bit more swollen than it has been, and definitely more "clicky" .... but... I started thinking of what my goals are, and where I want to be with the running... and decided that the PT is definitely warranted to get me to where I want/need to be in a reasonable time frame.... and if the MRI is required to come along on that ride, then so be it.... so I sent doc a message back.... and hopefully she isn't off on another 3 week vacation this time....
Oh - and I forgot to mention this last night, but sometime recently, but pages and pages ago folks were discussing differences in trackers vs treadmill, and calibration of treadmills came into play- at this point I definitely have to agree with that. - my run/walk intervals I put into a tabata timer. Last night I started both it and treadmill pretty close, and by the time 8 intervals happened, the interval switch was happening about 45seconds after the minute mark.... if the CLOCK on the darn things can be off that much- I can only imagine what the distance does...
In other news... a bored trainer at the gym ran me through a horrendous ab/core circuit tonight... I don't want to wake up tomorrow - ugh

So I declare them as done. New Shoes are cheaper that PT, and the replacement pair is in my closet so they are already paid for so they may as well get in the mix. Now to find a Local Charity/Church that is doing a Clothing/Shoe Drive for South America.
9.5 km up Pats Creek Trail. That felt so good. It's official - since retiring my Blue Mizuno's running is no longer a Suck Fest. Absolutely nothing hurt after the run and I was even able to get down to a 4:53 min/km Best Pace for a very short period of time. I usually really struggle once I get below 5:40/km. It was a rather tricky/technical challenge in spots as the Grass is starting to get very long beside the Trail and has fallen over in quite a few places. This creates Tripping Hazards as you step on a bunch of grass and as the next foot comes through you can catch the Toe on the Grass and it acts just like a Trip Line. So lots of High Stepping in the Deep Grassy area.
For us Northern Folk it was an absolute scorcher, for the Southern Folk it would have been a great day. 26C = 79F and 63% Humidity.

Forgot to mention that there were 8 different piles of Bear Scat, Red or Purple.
The Wild Saskatoon's and Raspberries are heavy with fruit so the Bears are feasting.
Even had one Saskatoon tree beside the trail that had been pulled down - I am guessing a bear grabbed it and pulled it over to get to the fruit at the very top - we all know that the best berries are always at the top where you can't reach them.6
