So I'll be doing a juice cleanse in a few days
Only 5 days
I'm doing it for weight and hunger purposes
I was on medication that increased my appetite and I'm hungry constantly
Anyone got any advice or experience?
I'm curious as to know what to expect
Thanks

You are not going to like what you're about to hear...29

GI issues and gaining all the lost water weight back immediately.7

I'm ok with a challenge1

I have tried a juice cleanse, it was probably the hungriest I've ever been in my life. And the weight I "lost" came back immediately.
I wouldn't recommend it for controlling hunger or losing weight.8 -
I would assume you would just end up hungrier - that is if you could actually last 5 days...3

What kind of juice will you be consuming?
A mixture
Half of the smoothies are green based
Other half fruit and berry
Some vegetable based
You have one of each everyday so not extreme6 -

1 of each so 2 smoothies a day? Not extreme? And you are trying to tame your hunger?5 -

How many calories will you be consuming? Are you adding protein, fat, and fiber?1 -
You will feel crappy, hungry and weak. Your body needs protein and fats, which fruit and juice does not contain. You will lose some water weight but immediately gain it back when you return to normal eating habits.
My honest advice:
Want to jump-start your weight loss and feel great?
Step 1. Buy yourself a nice digital kitchen scale.
Step 2. Calculate your TDEE and eat 500 calories below it every day.
Step 3. Nourish your body with your favourite foods and a good mixture of fat, protein and carbs. Find what works for you and keeps you full. Feel free to add some green smoothies and juices into your diet.
Step 4. Accurately track your calorie intake with your scale and watch the weight fall off.
Step 5. Incorporate some activity into your lifestyle for the health benefits.21 -

Yeah, that^^5 -
Expect to be very hungry for no good reason
Expect to have learned nothing about what normal eating looks like
Expect to have aversion to fruits and vegetables for a while
Expect to form the wrong idea about dieting and weight loss and be less inclined to attempt it again because surely it's hard
Expect disappointment if you do decide to continue dieting with your rate of normal weight loss, which would result in loss of motivation
Expect a giant binge afterwards
Expect to feel ripped off once the water weight comes back and the binge offsets the actual weight loss
Expect to learn (the hard way) that cleanses are pointless, or to continue falling for every fad out there because if one doesn't work surely another will
Or, you can save yourself the stress and money and just eat normally within a reasonable calorie allowance18 -
Wouldn't that make you more hungry? And not actually cleanse anything anyway.4

I had a smoothie like that for a snack the other day before going on a hike. I was starving halfway through. I cannot imagine that being the only thing eaten all day3

OK. I did a juice cleanse once, about three years ago. It was expensive and time consuming, it had next to no benefits. Whilst it was easy to do it was boring and the 3lbs I lost came straight back, also I immediately returned to eating crap and lots of it. Personally I wouldn't waste your time.7

Another chance to pop in and hit the Woo button. Always makes me smile.13

Juice cleanses and detoxes do not work, like every other quick fad diet.3

Smoothies or juices?
Where do they come from? Do you make them or buy them?
How many calories? Do they include fat or protein?2 -

I'm confused.....are you juicing because you want to be hungry? Because you will be.
Protein, fiber and fat are filling. Juice "cleanses" are low in all of the above. Fruit (normally) contains fiber. This helps slow digestion down. Juice deletes most of the fiber, and speeds digestion up. When one thinks of good protein sources, fruits & veggies aren't it. Meat, dairy, legumes.....and beans. Add avocado & banana to your juices for healthy fat.
Pooping is not fat loss. It may help you reach a number on the scale quicker......but when when you eat food (again)....your bowels will have food in them. It's a never ending cycle.4 -
I think we lost OP though she is responding to her other thread2

4kg lost due to the cleanse
Just working on keeping it off9 -
I had surgery a month ago and doc put me on a juice cleanse for anti inflammatory purposes. He had me on bone broth for protein, and the juices had to include green leaf veggies. I was allowed some solids, free range chicken breast and eggs. Those things are very easily processed, low calorie, and good cholesterol and fat. Sweet potatoes and steamed orange, yellow and green. veggies. I did well on this. I'd suggest you at least include the bone broth. 16oz a day. Or a protein shake.4

since it is mostly water weight it will return quickly and accomplished nothing that a calorie deficit wouldn't have done.5 -

It won't do anything for weight loss, either (aside from a little water weight drop).

I do smoothies - do not do this to detox or cleanse your body. your body does that all on its own unless there is something wrong with your kidneys and liver.
For me (and your mileage may vary) I did the smoothie 'cleanse' to detox my sh**ty habits. It forced me to make better choices, do grocery shopping, plan my meals, and gave me a relatively simple jumpstart to *thinking* in a healthier, long term way. Track all your food. Track everything you do. Make sure you account for snacks - do not do this without making sure you have extra food because you will be seriously hungry. Make hard boiled eggs, portion out your nuts ahead of time, get good fruits and veggies to snack on.
Basically, prep the heck out of this.
And 5 days isn't long enough to change your habits. It's just enough to make you miserable and not see results unless you do something drastic which isn't going to help you in the long run. In the end, calories in, calories out are what counts.2 -
Did a juice only fast for 10 days last year - followed Joe Cross of the "Sick, Fat an Nearly Dead" documentary. Watching the documentary on Netflix put my head in the right place to do that. Lost 10 lbs, shrunk my stomach, was never hungry but missed chewing. My skin was a lot nicer too. Found the juicing a bit tedious though. My juices consisted of 70% vegs and 30% fruit. Highly recommended.16

You mean the infomercial for the juicer he sells?9 -
I would be too hungry to do this, but I think juicing veggies is a good way to get nutrients into your system quickly, especially if you are a picky eater and don't like veggies. Juicing fruits is just a way to get sugar into your system quickly. Eat whole fruit instead. But your body needs protein, fiber, and fat as well. Juice veggies as a way of supplementing your diet, but unless your doctor tells you too, eat real food too.1

I did a juice fast for 57 days. I got salmonella poisoning from cucumbers. I was in bed for 2 weeks. A lot of my hair fell out. I lost a bunch of weight but it came right back. I'd never do it again.
