I'm doing this because I want to continue to impress my girlfriend so she'll stay with me. Also, the self therapy that comes with the gym is amazing.1

what kind of medical professional would tell you that you'll be fat forever and in pain because of fibromyalgia??
Probably LOTS of them, actually. I have heard dozens of horror stories to that same effect.0 -
For me it was the first time I found myself unable to keep up with an average weight woman. I'd been technically morbidly obese since I was 16, but it wasn't until I was 31 and on a business trip that it happened. I was always able to keep up with my friends and had great bloodwork and all that jazz... Changed everything after that. I'd never even dieted previously or really worried much about my weight, I was just in a weird acceptance/denial state for all those years about it and people fed my confidence by giving me endless compliments and saying I carried my weight well and blah blah blah. But after getting pains in my legs from walking up and down stairs at the train station on a trip...I was ready to change, and did.2

People always have doctor horror stories lol. I just meant with the fibromyalgia, it makes no sense to say something like that. I mean, most doctors dont even believe its a real thing1 -
Multitude of things,
1. Had to go into a big and tall shop to be able to get clothes that fit as none of the high street shops stocked my size XXXL and just short of 22 stone. This led me to me getting into the gym and losing some weight got down to about 19.5 stone over a year and maintained that for a while
2. Wasn't allowed to take my annual fitness test at work due to high blood pressure. Started doing parkrun and lost another stone and reduced my blood pressure to a safer level without the need of medication
3. My wife wanted to lose some weight so we started a health eating plan and have currently lost a further 2 stone just at 16.5 stone but am now able to buy clothes in normal shops and old football tops from 15 years ago fit me again.
I think if I hadn't had all those 3 things happen to me then I'd still be rolling around thinking I'm invincible. Never going back to that size again and am looking at going down to 13.5 as a final goal.
Good luck to you all on your goals

I agree, a lot of doctors don't believe it's real...and yep, doctor horror stories abound especially on this site.
But really I did mean the fibromyalgia and weight horror stories. I used to work in an office where we helped people with disabilities and it felt like every third or fourth woman (employee and client) told the same story about having fibromyalgia and their doctor saying there is essentially no treatment for it and they won't be able to lose weight if they can't do loads of exercise so they'll just need to try to get on disability because nothing will change. These women were often in their twenties or thirties. It made me sad and confused!0 -
I was tired of being fat and ugly. Decided I would rather just be ugly.3

Graduated college 30 lbs heavier than when I started and I wasn't in the best shape to begin with. I started a new job, moved to a new city, and as i was "reinventing my normal" I decided now was the perfect time. I'm ready to work on who I've wanted to be for a long time.3

I suffered from panic attacks, shortness of breath, dizzy spells, numbness and migraines. Finally went to see a specialist and informed me that I might be gluten intolerant. So since May 2016 I changed my eating habits and exercised and I have never felt greater!0

Are you planning on killing me? At least wait until I get back from vacation.
With me its never planned. It's more spontaneous.1 -

I have been thinking about getting serious about weight loss and fitness for quite awhile now. Several recent events made me decide to do something. I recently tried on a t shirt that I wanted to buy, and the extra large was too small. Not always the case, but was this time. Being with my grandsons and not being able to keep up with them was another sign..Being 61 and having avoided diabetes and heart problems (for now) but wondering how long that could last with my current overweight state. Having sleep issues due to overeating at night...Being lucky enough to travel and being afraid that I will not be able to enjoy the next trip..and finally, I saw a picture of myself recently and it was truly AWFUL...time to do something...this group seems great..please keep up the good work and keep on keeping on!!!0

After a lifetime of gaining weight with occasional successful diets to lose Lbs only to put them back on plus more.
I got up 376# in 2012.
Thanksgiving 2012 my 28 yo son told me, his 65 yo father:
"Every time we talk to you about your weight, you just blow us off,"
That sentence made me recall how me and my siblings tried to get our mother to quit drinking, She didn't and died of alcoholism related causes at age 55.
I promised him I would do something. Joined WW Jan 2013, I'm still working the plan and have lost -173 so far.
The comment that took me back to my experience with my alcoholic mother made me realize I was killing my self with food not booze.
I chose not to do that.

My son has a chromosomal disorder called Prader Willi Syndrome. People who have this syndrome never feel full when they eat and spend their entire lives obsessed with food. Basically starving. When I had my son I was 275 and 5'3. My idea of fun was movies and snacks which was pretty much an every day thing. When I learned about this disorder I knew my lifestyle and his syndrome were a match and dynamite. For him, I learned how to care for him with an active lifestyle and an education in nutrition!7 years and 130 lbs later here I am, and he's a healthy weight!!6

Ordering a tshirt for an event at work, tshirt arrived and looked humongous. Put on shirt and it was kinda tight. When people ask how someone could let themselves get so big, I understand. What you see in the mirror and what's reality is not always the same.4

I got serious about my health and nutrition and fitness...the weight thing just followed...1

Went to the doctor and when they weighed me, I almost died. She told me I was 299 pounds. Right then and there, I decided I had to change my life. Started counting calories, doing cardio, and lifting heavy. I have a long way to go but, I'm closer than I was.3

In Feb my dad died of leukemia.
In April I lost my job.
In May I had to put my beloved dog to sleep because her trachea collapsed. She was my best friend.
I think I was drunk for most of June.
In July I decided that life was too short to spend every day miserable about something that I have complete control over. If I don't like who I have become, it's up to me to change it. I don't want to die fat and unhappy with regrets. I love my husband very much and want to spend as many years with him as I can. I owe it to both of us to take better care of my health.6 -
In Feb I got invited to a wedding at the end of April, I was 225 lbs, I wanted to get dressed nice and have good photos of the event so I committed to losing 35 lbs. I hit 190 around March 20, so I gave mysrlf a stretch goal of 175 lbs, almost made it, came in at 177 on the day of the wedding, here we are 4 months later and I am sitting stabile at 165 lbs, my weight from my senior year in high school, I haven't been this healthy in a very long time. I wake up happy and no longer eat away my feelings. It's a hard journey and it isn't over yet, but I'm still going and I have no intention of stopping.7
