The challenge ended up being something like this: 100 jumping jacks, 90 high knees, 80 mountain climbers, 70 burpees (the devil's workout!), 60 switching jumps w/overhead presses w/dumbbells, 50 box jumps, 40 ball slams, 30 jumping lunges, 20 jumping squats, and 10 more burpees. I did it in 14:24, so yay for winning a free training session!
IMPRESSIVE!!!

@Orphia - Congrats to the newest MARATHONER on this site! Great job finishing so well - no walking and even speeding up at the end!
@KatieJane83- yeah - the burpees and box jumps sound exhausting when mixed with everything else, especially.
ETA - and @Orphia - I really laughed at the part where you kept running because your watch was not going to give you credit for a marathon otherwise. My watch didn't give me credit for one of my PR's - but I didn't realize it when I stopped it and honestly, not sure I would have kept going to get it to show up.4 -

I went to the gym straight away after work to do some squats and single-leg stability work and box jumps, followed by a 3 mile neighborhood jog. I kept my HR under 150 for probably 80-90% of the run which was a huge achievement. Typically I get too excited and get into the high 150s and 160s after a mile or two. But I must say that the pleasant weather (low humidity, beautiful temperature) definitely played a major role because I'm not getting overheated on a short run like this. We're getting into that beautiful weather that's perfect for running -- that late summer, early fall warm-cool, low-humidity kind of weather -- and I'm absolutely loving it!

@Orphia - Many congratulations on your first marathon; you have more than earned that medal, and are a true inspiration!
@5512bf - Awesome video - the guy at the end just killed me, lol.
So it's Monday, which meant it was time for the 20% high intensity effort. With an average HR of 179, I'd say that was mission accomplished, and I managed to set a new half-marathon PR in the process (1:42:02 - yay, but still over two minutes slower than @MobyCarp's slowest half, lol). Cooler temps definitely helped, with the thermometer holding out at 73F in the early hours of the morning, and barring some unforeseen events, tomorrow morning's run should see me reach my August goal.

Thank goodness for this continuing nice weather, otherwise I probably wouldn't have dragged myself out there tonight. Feels like it could be a rough week work-wise. Better try to get some good sleep to make up for it.
Closing in on the month's goal!

Got to my monthly goal this morning with a cool morning run. With essentially 3 more days I'll probably get to about 145 miles this month. HR stayed about as low (142 Average) as I've seen it since getting back in to things 4 weeks ago. With cooler weather hopefully setting in for my morning runs for the foreseeable future, I think the low temps are to only get to 67 degrees all week, I'm going to start pushing my pace/cadence a bit more. I've been working hard at running a lot slower than I can to build my mileage back up and I need to start adding back some speed work. I'll probably only add in some 10x:20 sec strides for the next 3-4 weeks and see how that plays out before adding in anything more aggressive like a tempo run or intervals.
@5512bf Lovely run log, and a nice plan for the future! Are you training for something in particular?@Orphia Great work on the marathon. I ran 3 before I had what I consider a successful one of not having to stop and walk portions. Having a realistic game plan and sticking to it is harder than most people think. I'm sure you are feeling much like this video but take a few days off and things will bounce back.

That's hilarious! Thanks!
I'm not too bad today. Just walked a block and back, and felt pretty good. Some minor aches, though, so I won't run till maybe Thursday, and then maybe try 20 minutes or so. I'll do a couple of gentle walks in the meantime.lporter229 wrote: »My first day back to work after vacation, and once again, I am unable to keep up with the insanity of this thread! Congrats to all who made personal accomplishments over the past week. I did manage to page through and see the major milestone of @orphia on her first marathon. Way to go!!! So happy for you...amazing job!
My vacation was to Isle of Palms, SC (off the coast of Charleston). My in-laws have a vacation home there, so it is sort of a home away from home for us. I love going here every year because it's familiar territory and ends up being a very active week. In addition to running, biking, ocean swimming and jet skiing, there were a few highlights of the week. The first was the eclipse. Holy cow that was cool! Seeing it in totality from the beach with thousands of other people was definitely a once in a lifetime experience! I will try to post some pictures when my hubby finally sends me the link.
Second highlight was my sunrise paddle board yoga class on Friday. It was beyond words. We met at the marina at 7:30 AM, just after sunrise and paddled for about 30 minutes out through the creeks to a quiet and isolated spot on the marsh. There we had a 45 minute yoga session on the boards. The sun was sparkling off the water, the oyster beds were popping and the birds were flying overhead. I felt like I was in a yoga video. Yoga on the board was just challenging enough. My 23 yo niece and my nephew's 25yo girlfriend were the only other people in the class, so it was very intimate. Also happy to report that nobody fell off.
Although it was hot and humid, the running was good. I don't like running on the beach very much, but I did stop on the beach and do some stretching while I watched the sunrise a few times. We also did a couple of leisurely bike rides. We take my FIL along, so it's a nice slow go. He is 83 and it just impresses the hell out of me that he can still get up and go for 8-10 miles in 90F heat. I hope I can still do it at that age!
No I am home and back at work. I have my first evening half-marathon coming up this Saturday. I am not sure how I will do in an evening race, but I am looking forward to it. It's a local hometown race in its second year. The owner of the running store where my run club is based is the race director this year, so I know it will be a great event. It's called the Hamilton Night Glow Marathon, HM and 10K and the medals glow in the dark
@lporter229 Your holiday sounds amazing! I'd love to try paddleboard yoga!!
When planning for my marathon, I booked this week as leave. I've got nothing planned at all besides pottering around the house, maybe doing a bit of writing if I get bored, and organising my photos. Resting, and relaxing is the plan!5 -

Set out thinking I would do a long, slow run - maybe even the whole 5.7 miles I needed for this month's goal. Couldn't get comfortable until I hit the first downhill and let my legs just do whatever they wanted. So that's what I did on every downhill, and Strava gave me 6 personal bests. Totally not conversational - I actually started to get a side stitch at one point, and had to think about my breathing until it went away - and when I got to 5k I was done. But I wasn't fall on the ground exhausted, just ready to walk. And I had fun and feel great.8 -
@KatieJane83 Does a person who can do that really even need personal training?4

The message he is giving is that if you can't do those things, you'll be able to do them with his training.
@KatieJane83 if you did them it was because you're in very good shape.
@Orphia Lovely post of your marathon, the pics and the history are inspiring, congratulations!
I ran a HM distance past week but sadly I didn't knew and missed the Mexico City marathon, I'd have rest a few days and tried it instead.
Completed the 200K challenge, my remaining kms will be for the ticker of my past month.

August Goal: Not die while ramping up running mileage and technicality during 100K training
Nominal mileage goal: 250 miles HAHAHAHA not gonna happen
Today's notes: Was talking with my running buddy last night and he mentioned being able to hit the trailks with me on Thursday, so today became my "track" day. Workout was 8x1000 with 500 recovery, plus 1 mile warm up and cool down, for a total of 9.5 miles. My goal was to keep my splits between 4:20 and 4:30. First split was a bit slow, but the rest were pretty good.
100k splits were:
4:35
4:28
4:28
4:29
4:29
4:29
4:29
4:26
Feel pretty good after this workout. I really had to push the last couple repeats, but it paid off. I feel great, and I know that I can do `00k repeats at 5k pace. Great feeling.
Have a Runderful day everyone!

Humid, cool morning today made for a great track/speed Tuesday workout! Jogged 1 mile to the track, did a half mile more warm up with my buddy, and then we did a 2 mile road loop to get our 3 x 2 miles in because 2 miles on a track is a loooooooong way. The last .15 or so of each mile was on the track so we could hammer it out on something flat for the finish Definitely hard to keep pushing on some of the long, gradual hills around the track here, but it was nice to do something a bit different.
I wanted MP-10 seconds which would be somewhere between 7:40 and 8:00. Splits were 15:51 (7:58 and 7:53), 15:29 (7:49 and 7:40) and 15:27 (7:44 and 7:43). So for me, especially considering the second mile was the UPHILL one, this was a huge success. Every week's track workouts seem to feel better and better... let's hope I can keep it going to race day!
Upcoming Races:
Oct 8: Steamtown Marathon
Oct 22: Perfect 10 (10 Miler)
Nov 5: Princeton Half Marathon (pacer)

@orphia - congratulations! I would have kept running too! We want our credit!
@JessicaMcB - I did a similar thing with chafing weeks ago. I think it was in July because it was before school started. I didn't go nearly as far as you but it was so hot and for whatever reason sports bra/shirt rubbed me the wrong way (no pun intended). And mine is taking forever to heal! I didn't notice it until I got in the shower when I screamed out in pain. My bra hits the chafed area and it just seems to get irritated over and over. It doesn't hurt anymore but just yesterday my husband commented that it still looks bad.
Taking a full rest day today... having some ankle issues -- well more under the ankle. I'll go to a podiatrist if it continues. Looking over my month I haven't rest since the 16th so I guess I should anyway. I know I need to run tomorrow because it's Back to School night -- pretty much every teacher's least favorite day/night. At least my friends feel that way.
Maybe tomorrow will hit goal!

I'm certainly not going to hit my goal of 85 miles this month. I've done 50, but had to take too many enforced rest days thanks to my calf injury. But on the bright side, I ran two 5k road races and came second in my age-group in both of them.
I ran 6.5 miles last night and will probably get another 6 miles in tomorrow. After that, I've got a couple of weeks away from running because I'm going hiking in Utah. No running planned, but lots and lots of walking. And then when I get back, the cooler weather should mean I'll ace my long runs ready for my HM in November.
2017 upcoming races
9/16/17 Mystic Runners Classic 10k
9/30/17 Stride for Healthy Communities 5k
10/09/17 Tufts 10k for Women
10/29/17 Bill's Pizzeria 5k
11/18/17 YMCA Metro North Half Marathon
11/23/17 Concord Turkey Trot (this'll stretch the old legs after the half-marathon)
12/03/17 Newton Holiday Hustle 5k

Foggy morning run today. Did 3 miles. Tomorrow starts my 5 mile midweek runs. Progressing.8

That's what I said! I was like, shouldn't you win the session if you CAN'T hit the target time? Didn't really make sense to me, lol.
The message he is giving is that if you can't do those things, you'll be able to do them with his training.
@KatieJane83 if you did them it was because you're in very good shape.
That and they likely only want people to claim the prize if they will take it seriously. "Free session" with a trainer is probably almost always a waste of every ones' time.
Oh absolutely. Obviously, the end goal is they're looking to get people to sign up for paid sessions, so they're looking for the people that are going to take it seriously. I'm sure they're also hoping that the people who can't complete the challenge will then go hey, I want to be able to do that too! And sign up for sessions.
At this point I have neither the time nor the extra funds to be spending on personal training, lol. But I already told the trainer that I wanted to use our free session to learn more exercises that are good for supporting my running habit and preventing injury, lol.1 -

Had a beautiful 57 degree morning today at 4:30 am. Added in a some speed/cadence work and did 10x125m strides. Did them fairly easy and didn't push the pace, just worked on foot turnover and maintaining form. Made sure to keep the effort in the lower portion of z3.
@Orphia Pretty much everything I'm doing now is to get in shape to start training. Still have a long way to go to get back to last year but I'm confident by Mid October - Early November I'll be ready to circle a spring marathon and get to work. I've pretty much decided to go with Pfitzinger 18/70 training plan again so I've got some work to get back to 55-60mpw to get that started.4 -

Hey everyone! Hope everyone’s staying healthy. So sorry to hear about MobyCarp. You’ll be back to running (and passing us) in no time though. Sorry, I’ve been MIA with work getting real busy and hamstring healing. It kind of was a blessing in a way. It would’ve been torture being healthy but too busy to run. I’ve slowly been getting out and running and adding miles. I’m still not 100%. I’m afraid to kick off on my right side. I did run a couple races while I was hurt just because I’m just that stupid. The Coast Guard 5k was the roughest one. After that one, I was forced to take a break. I’ve scrapped my training plan for Peak to Creek Oct 28 (my first marathon), but I’m still going to “run” it. I’ll take it as a learning experience. I didn’t set a goal for August but since I’m close to 50 I’ll say that. I’ll try to catch up on the last 5 pages to get an idea of what everyone’s up to.

Yeah, I hear you. Cost can be insane for a personal trainer. One lady I was talking to online told me she was "cheaper than I thought" and that she was only "about the price of a Starbucks every day" and I am like "but I can not afford Starbucks every day"
I meet for a free session and they wrote me up a list of things to do. Now, I have to try and make myself do them. Alone with no accountability. Traditionally I suck at that so we will see. Wednesday is day one.1 -
Good morning! Just thought I would share a few of the eclipse and paddle board photos with you.
This was a sculpture built by the group of people next to us. It was really cool and everyone was stopping to take pictures
I thought this one captured the apocalyptic vibe of the event pretty well
