Another unfamiliar route today. Mostly suburbs, with a nice surprise at the turn-around point.

I am hoping to do at least 100km this month. My goal for 2017 was 1000km, I am current 206km away. Ive requested to join the Strava MFP club. I try to run 3 times in the week and at least once on a weekend. June 2016 I was running 3 mins walking 1 at least 5km 3 times a week. I no longer need walk breaks on 5km and last week surprisingly broke 27mins at our local Parkrun. I've done 3 half marathons this year and I am planning on doing another on in Oct or Nov. ☺9

Should have run Thursday, but I was still feeling stiff and achy, plus had family stuff. Oh, well. Thinking that going up to four days a week might be too big of a jump, and that every other day is a more reasonable target.
Today was my first run-in with someone who high-fives other runners. It was kind of fun!4 -

Amazing long run today. Started with a 6 mile loop at 6 am and then dragged 7 other group runners out on a exploratory 10 mile run in the neighborhoods around one of our favorite longer, hillier scenic routes. I loved the route even though it was up or down hill almost the entire first 3/4s of the route. I felt really strong the whole way which I haven't felt on a hilly route in ages. 4 weeks til marathon day!

@allyphoe When I went from 3 to 4 days a week, I shortened three of the runs so for the first few weeks I was running the same distance over 4 days. I kept my Sunday run the same so instead of 3 equal runs I had 1 longer run and three shorter runs. I think it helped.5

September goal: Survive 100k training and the beginnings of pre-race freak out

Today's notes: I haven't done any real road running since mid June, because my focus has been on trail running and getting ready for October. Well, I let myself get talked into joining my buddy and a couple others for a 20 mile road run on a 1.03 mile figure 8.... yes, that's right I just ran TWENTY laps of a figure 8. We took like 3 stretching breaks during the run, and one break so my buddy could fill his water bottle, but that's it.
It was TORTURE! The first 14 miles, I kept up with the others and ended up running them, in 2:01:59, for an average pace of 8:42, mind you, my current HM PR, According to the timing mat at 13.1 miles of Grandma's marathon, is 1:59:30. If today would have been a real race, I would have CRUSHED that, Garmin gave me a HM time of 1:53:05, but with a stop in the middle to stretch, with watch stopped, it wasn't a real PR, and Strava didn't record it as such.
Anyway, after 14, my right Calf was really hating me, so I made the choice to walk up this one really short, sharp uphill, to save my calf. It was a good choice I think, as my calf still feels OK now. Run was very good, and I can tell that I'm a stronger runner than I was even 2 months ago.

Waiting on official results, but I finished at 1:13:16 and averaged 11:40 per mile, which is a whole minute per mile faster than my training runs. I couldn't be more pleased and I am so excited to do it again.23

Late night last night, and I'm too old for late nigjts. We had to trek down to Denton (2.5 hours), through road construction to take a cat to the ER. I'm not sure what's wrong with him (non stop diarrhea). But it's 1200$ to set him right. Good thing I saved all that money not having cable.
So tired today. My right foot that's threatening a tendonitis flare up, is stiff and sore his morning, so I think I have to scrap today's, probably tomorrow's too, favorite run. DH is having some similar issues, but he's just been trying to keep up with me and it's his own fault. LOL! This week he told me "I don't think I need to be running as much as you". Surely I've pointed that out...
I think after my shot, and some cooler weather, I was just able to do more running (less walking) and presto tendonitis and my right IT? TFL? Medial glute? is tight and sore too.
Good day to rest I suppose. I better, if I wanna run Lawton in October.
DH is on a donut run. We're off to a fine start.6 -

Turning the corner and seeing how close the finish line was and having a little bit left in the tank to finish really strong.12 -

Notes:
Another quick check in. Thursday I ran 5.4 miles at an easy pace (9:23). My legs were really tired from wednesday's progression run, but just tired (no soreness or pain) so that was a great sign. Thursday night, my boyfriend and I went for a walk, and a tiny little stray kitten found us and followed us home. She was incredibly skinny and very dehydrated (she drank for over a minute straight when we gave her some water! And cats never drink water). We already have one cat, so we've kept the kitten locked away in a separate room until we can take her to the vet on tuesday to get checked out. We have decided to try to keep the little kitty, assuming her and our existing cat can learn to get along!
Friday morning I ran a short 3.5ish miles (9:12 pace). I was planning to run longer, but I was up late the night before taking care of the kitten and decided the extra sleep was more important than getting in a few more miles. I spent a lot of time during the day worrying about my family, as my immediate family all live in the Tampa Bay area, as well as some extended family in Orlando and Ft. Meyers. My sister evacuated yesterday morning with her two young children, but her husband, my parents, my grandmother, and younger sister all decided to stay and weather out the storm. They have enough canned food and water to last for ~2 weeks, and have boarded up all the windows and doors. They are all in the 12-15 feet above sea level so hopefully flooding won't be an issue. Either way, I am still a bit worried
Today is a rest day from running, and then a long-ish run tomorrow (13-14 miles). I'll probably just bike and take a walk today, and maybe some strength training if I can convince myself haha.

[Apologies, this got long, so feel free to skip all this]
Woke up to a gorgeous day in Boston and decided I might as well go for it. Started and finished right at Sam Adams grave, maybe that gave me a revolutionary spirit for the run. Went through Boston Commons and the Public Gardens and then onto the Charles River Esplanade. It was packed with runners today on such a beautiful morning, plus there were at least two events going on - a big Heart Association run/walk and some other race. Oh - just looked it up and it was the Charles River Marathon! Which it turns out is a 2.62 loop that they run 10 times. Wow, that would be kind of mind-numbing I would think. No wonder I felt like I saw the same people a few times. I was trying carefully to stay out of the way but there were walkers/bikers/runners on the path which made me feel a bit sorry for the runners trying to race the thing.
Anyway, I went about 7 miles out and then crossed the river and looped back. At about the 8 mile point I was getting pretty tired and debated cutting the run short but I ate some gels and talked myself back into it. I mean, I had to get back one way or the other, might as well keep running. I crossed back over the river on the Mass Ave bridge and there was a big group of runners - looked like a bunch of college kids (all guys) and they were running on the other side of the bridge. Then not quite to the other side they all stopped and climbed the railing and jumped off! I'm guessing this is something they've do, but I was certainly surprised. They all swam to the shore safely I assume, they looked pretty happy.
Not too long after that I officially passed 13.1 miles, and my time was about 2:23 or 2:24 so I was really excited about that because my last HM race was 2:21 and I certainly wasn't trying to race today. I felt like I was really dragging the last mile, and I made sure to add a tiny big so Garmin and Strava wouldn't short me and finished up back by my hotel and Sam Adams grave at 14.2 miles. My legs felt like they wanted to collapse, but I hobbled into a coffee shop and got myself some fortification before heading back to my hotel room.

@ariceroni Hope your family is safe too.
We introduced a new kitten to our older cat (~6) a few years ago. It took some time (Our male just didn't care if we had company- he'll run with the dogs. Identity crisis?). My older cat sat outside a lot and I had to open my bedroom window to entice her to come in an eat and get petted. Quick in and quick get away if the little one caught sight of her, wanting to play. I sat outside with her a lot, playing her favorite pink 'nake game in the dirt, now the dirt baby game. Just respect that it's gonna happen on their terms in their time.
These 2 aren't close, but do play together, er sort of...the way cats do.. lots of "drive by's". I found separate food bowls and litter to be helpful along with some new toys and that cardboard scratching blocks helped (still does). They had territory to newly claim.
Your little kitten is cute. Hope they all get along and are wonderful company.2 -

16.5 this am. I love this fall weather. As I am closer to my marathon I have done nonfasted runs.my body has responded very well do GU, so we'll I want to always do long runs with it, but I won't. Looks like a 9 minute pace is comfortable, so sub 4 hours is a definite possibility. My 7 year old son has his first soccer game today. It's great to watch him play. I think his runs with me may help.
