@JessicaMcB maybe they are sending you you your #1 female awards now. Yeah, that friends only been running like 2 years total bad *kitten*. That LSU runner is insane in the best way!
I'm looking at possibly having a lot more of my Saturday to s be on road, and then double up with a mid-long run on trail on Sunday. May be run like 15-24 On sat and another 10 on sun.

So, I have a question for any runners who have participated in Halloween races. Two of the people I am running my first 1/2 with are considering wearing costumes. At first I was super excited - Hell yeah I will wear a costume! After a little research and consideration, however, I am becoming increasingly concerned about comfort, cost, chafing, durability, etc. Suggestions?

Got restless pre-storm, so got just a little running in this a.m. Was raining after the first few minutes, but all it did was make it more humid.
We are hunkered down, and as prepared as we think we need to be. Our forecast is better than it was two days ago. The first bands of Irma are arriving, and the storm will be here in force tomorrow. I'm on the lower east coast, and we'll have impacts, but my thoughts are with the Florida Keys and the Naples/Ft. Myers area. This is a worst-case situation for Key West and the Lower Keys.

@ariceroni What an adorable kitten. I have a tendency to bring home strays as well. This is why I now have 3 dogs and a husband that threatens to move out if I bring home any more - LOL.

Great job @fitoverfortymom - that is an impressive pace improvement over your training runs!
@amymoreorless - I have had the same concerns about costumes. You are running a half, so chaffing and discomfort definitely could be an issue - not like it is just a 5K. I have seen a lot of women run in superhero tights that look really comfortable, though. That would stay in the spirit but still give you plenty of comfort. You could try them out on a run or two before hand as well - while I might feel a little strange getting in a training run dressed as a pirate or a hot dog, lol.

Haven't posted in a few days as I've been really busy. Thursday night's run was at 27C. Average pace was was way slower than the norm. This morning was the big jump to 60 total minutes of running and I was pretty dead by the time I finished. My various trackers weren't playing very nice with each other so I went for the one with the greatest distance.
Weather has turned and we are finally into fall with the trees dropping their leaves etc. Bodes well for my race in 2 weeks.
Currently cuddling a 2.5 year old with a fever and hoping his Tylenol kicks in soon. I hate when the littles are sick.

@MNLittleFinn thanks! I know it sounds super creeper but I can't wait to race LSU next year and meet him. Maybe I can adopt some of his coolness by osmosis
@amymoreorless I always have thought costume runs sound so fun but I too would be terrified of chafing. I think thats probably why a lot of women's "costumes" are some sort of singlet, shorts with tutu over top and head accessory.

@sarahthes I hope your little guy is on the mend quickly! My oldest two are sick atm as well (naturally the baby is healthy and antagonizing them lol)2 -
I am hoping to do at least 100km this month. My goal for 2017 was 1000km, I am current 206km away. Ive requested to join the Strava MFP club. I try to run 3 times in the week and at least once on a weekend. June 2016 I was running 3 mins walking 1 at least 5km 3 times a week. I no longer need walk breaks on 5km and last week surprisingly broke 27mins at our local Parkrun. I've done 3 half marathons this year and I am planning on doing another on in Oct or Nov. ☺

I ran 8.2 km this morning, my longest run in the 2 weeks since my marathon. I didn't want it to end! But the body is still a bit tired, even if the mind is raring to go. Still, I'm getting my energy back, and feeling awesome.6 -

A good 9 miles early this morning! It was cool and beautiful. Got to see a pretty sunrise too. Wore my hydration vest for practice and almost had negative splits. I kept my pace below 10min miles the entire time which I'm happy about.

@Orphia yes Whistler is only 50 miles/80k, next year is when I'll be hitting hard at 100k/120k distances and *potentially* will start work on building to a 100 miler. I am in the minority in that I train to 100% of race distance. It works well for me and I have a fair amount of runner friends who only train to 65%-70% of race distance and have a tendency to flame out and DNF which I would like to avoid (because you know, live Churchill and never surrender lol). So 80k next Saturday it is6 -

05/06/18 - Pittsburgh Marathon - aiming for sub four hours.
Well, that was not as bad as I thought or as good as I hoped. Did 16 miles at 10:21 average pace with 1500 feet of elevation. Probably should have had a rest day in there first. Ah well. There is always tomorrow to try again!6 -
@JessicaMcB are you going to train 100% for 100 miles? That would be total beast, runnong a 100 mile training run. Even thr pros are topping out in the 120mpw range for those, with like a 30 and a 20 on the weekends.

9/2 - 13.18 miles. Very slow, mostly walking. Really struggled with low BG throughout entire run. Depleted electrolytes and had cramping towards end and afterwards.
9/3 - Rest
9/4 - Cross train - hiked 10 miles.
9/5 - Unplanned rest day - seems like I might have sprained left ankle.
9/6 - 6.34 miles (plan was for 8, but trying to be easy on ankle ahead of HM on 9/9)
9/7 - Unplanned rest - trying to rest ankle for HM and spare electrolytes
9/8 - Rest
9/9 - 12.74 Wabash Trace HM 2:02:08 (we all took a wrong turn shortly after start, causing the short distance)

@allyphoe When I went from 3 to 4 days a week, I shortened three of the runs so for the first few weeks I was running the same distance over 4 days. I kept my Sunday run the same so instead of 3 equal runs I had 1 longer run and three shorter runs. I think it helped.
@kgirlhart Yeah, last weekend, instead of doing ~4.5 miles on Saturday, I ran 2.6 Saturday and 2.3 Sunday. So no significant increase in mileage. My guess is that this was just a rough week to have more physical stress - I haven't gotten enough sleep or non-running exercise, been eating poorly, and my emotional stress level has been high. But most of that should resolve either in the next week or the next couple of weeks as my work life moves from peak season to off season. So I'll just keep on keeping on, and eventually I'll have more running days.1 -

It was an amazing day for a run! But we were finishing up our boards and helping neighbors who couldn't get theirs up so no last run before the storm for me. Now, we wait.1 -
I am on the board- with 1.5!!! only 1 was running, but I count the whole distance when I do run/walk intervals, so, I am sticking with 1.5. If anyone has a good idea for figuring out how to switch off my stubborn setting, I would love to hear it though. First .5 of running was good, next .25 was questionable, and should have maybe called it... instead, I walked for a bit and then ran my last .25 to make my mile. Might be regretting that decision later.... but then again I think I was nicer to me, than Tuesday's PT was.... that makes it better, right?7

@wishiwasarunner Hope you make a speedy recovery, and you being here on this forum is a good sign of that.
Partly because I missed Monday's run, but mostly because I joined Strava's "The Great 13.1 Record" challenge, I decided to get my run in in the very early hours...as in the just-after-midnight kind of early hours. As I have a faster run on Monday, this one was a slow-paced easy run, so nothing special to report.
But now Garmin says there's only 12.13 miles remaining of the 2017 in 2017 goal. Monday's run should wrap that up.

Another gorgeous day in Boston, so I dragged myself out of bed and attempted an easy recovery run to the seaport area. Oh wow, legs and knees especially felt sore. Things eased up as I went but I certainly wasn't up for much today. Did 2.87 miles and stopped at the coffee place I was targeting. That's enough for today! I walked back after my coffee and croissant and I'll be doing more walking around today. I might check out the Boston Marathon finish line to see what my marathoning friends are striving for and do some shopping. Plus more food.
Tomorrow and Tuesday are work meetings and then travel home so this may be it for running, which is probably fine to give my legs a good rest.6 -
@PastorVincent Thanks for the advice. My next Saturday run will be my longest at 20 miles. I will attempt to make it marathon prep without the carb loading and I will not push my pace. There is no doubt on one level that I can achieve the sub 4 hours, but there is the unanswerable question of the distance at that pace. We know that things can change dramatically once you add in the excitement of a race and the challenging distance of 26.2. My thought is to play it a little on the cautious side on race day even if I may go over 4 hours. I'm hoping I will be able to use the heart rate monitor to stay in zone 2 most of the race and then let it fly the last 10 k if I have it in me.
@MNLittleFinn yesterday's run might have been a lot of zone x. Your smart to give yourself some extra rest. Congratulations on the performance, you should be proud.1 -
Oh, and I meant to mention yesterday on the loops thing. I did many loops last spring during half training, as my running buddy is an operating room nurse at a hospital, and she is frequently on call. We started, just knowing about a 1mile circle loop... short circle loops leave me feeling like I've been a race car, and lopsided. And something about the mile coming in at the exact same place I hated as well. And I think the most we ever did on the circle only is 7 or 8.... 20 would have killed me, and possibly left me with a permanent lean...
Someone eventually taught us a way to make a 2.5ish mile figure eight loop, that would still leave us close enough to the cars she could make calls. Mentally, the longer than a mile, and the figure 8 vs the circle made a HUGE difference. But I don't think the figure 8 would have helped if it was still just a mile.1 -

@cburke8909 you nailed it. Average HR was solid zone X using Fitzgerald's system for HR. Upper z3 (163) for how my Garmin is set up.
I'm physically at a point where I know I'll be able to keep moving at my October race, so it's all the mental game now. Taking an extra day to recover from a hard run, rather than fret about sore calves and achilles will help my mental game me thinks.1 -

@amymoreorless I completely understand your concerns about wearing a costume. I ran a 10k wearing a tutu once, it was not bad, but that's as far as I am willing to go when it comes to dressing up for races But to me wearing comfortable clothes and shoes is crucial. I can deal with weather, hunger and even thirst, but do not tolerate chaffing and blisters.
Nice and easy run this morning, felt amazing! I am getting a lot faster, was able to average 8:55/mile, with my fastest mile being 8:28. Going to push for more miles this coming week and then start tapering before my first fall race. Hope everyone is having a great Sunday! Those in the path of Irma - stay safe!

It was such a nice morning for a run! I really couldn't wait to get out there. I had to rearrange my schedule this week and ended up having three rest days in a row. I really hate having three rest days in a row.
